Microsoft happy with Sony’s Live rip-off

Chris Lewis spoke with Kikizo about how he likes what Sony is doing with their online system. In his opinion the two companies have a different approach when it comes to online part. Microsoft integrated it into the core of the whole Xbox experience from the start while Sony is approaching it like car air-conditioning - once a luxury, now a standard component. But Lewis also says Microsoft is not going to let them forget that it was there first.

The article is basically just a little ego trip for Microsoft, Lewis even dares to call Sony’s online plans plagiarism, but he doesn’t think that’s a problem because that’s what the market wants. Bald headed guy with bold statements.

ha, ha, the PS3 is gonna suck! The only thing sony knows how to make is a Walkman, and they fell behind in that technology as well (ie: no Ipod killer). They take their consumers for granted and screw them everyday. Hey RIDGE RACER! Yeah, so cool! late

Well, the Walkman wasn’t an Ipod killer because it was invented 10 years later :D

I’m still using portable CD players over here.

Well not exactly what he ment I think, Sony’s new portable devices on RAM memory or so are also again called Walkman, so it’s reïnventing the name ;)

I think he ment the next gen Walkman and not the one with tapes

Sure it’s kind of lame to make an online service so similar to Xbox Live. Howevere, if they didn’t they would probably sign their own death certificate, at least in the US and Europe. Xbox Live is a huge selling point for the Xbox (360) and Sony knows that too. At least their trying to do something right here, after the whole ‘PS2 Central Service’ which was a huge let-down.

“if they didn’t they would probably sign their own death certificate”.

I’m afraid they have already done that by removing rumble from the controller. Thats a step backwards in my eyes, big time, and I used to love Sony.

I thought they did that by forcing us to pay $599 for the ability to hit the giant enemy crab in his weak point for massive damage.

Not only removing the rumble, but also a core version without HDMI, and lying about 2 x HDMI which has become one on the premium version and so much more lies

And if the quality of the drive again is so horrible as the PS2 one was oh man people will feel ripped of for 600 dollar’s/euro’s for sure

dont forget, RIDGE racer! yeah, woohoo!

Is that from the Authentic Japanese events?

hey metal gear online is a totally awesome online experience on the ps2. if they can make all the developers treat their online components like that on ps3, then they could easily have a great free service. and the good part of that is if its free, and good, then ms will have to offer live for free. so its win win really. xbox fanboys shouldnt care so much if sony makes a good one. competition is great for business, and consumers.

Competition is great, if there wasn’t so many Fony lies flying around. THat’s false competition and earning bucks from people that should have invested on real facts instead of lies.

Metal Gear Online might have been cool (really don’t know), but the problem is/was that a lot of PS2 titles had very poor online service.
Pretty much the only real good things Sony does is ripping off Xbox Live and including a harddisc in both packages.

It is not actually free as of yet. what is happening is that Sony are not running there own servers but leaving it all up to the games developers you could end up with terrible servers supplied by the developers leading to endless lag (EA anyone? they run there own servers so there is an example). On top the developers will be completley within their rights to charge so while Sony may not charge you there could still be a cost, its just they are washing their hands of it.

All sound a bit shitty to me.

I’d prefer to pay £40 a year for XBL and not be suprised by random online charges some games are going to carry, than having a free, lesser-quality service. If anyone complains they have to pay £40 A YEAR!!! for Xbox Live, then they’re the cheapest people I’ve ever met. It’s just over 10 pence a day.
