Dashboard and CoD2 updates early next week

After our exclusive article on the upcoming Xbox 360 Dashboard update, a lot of scepsis rose on the authenticity of the report. [H]ard|OCP got formal confirmation from Microsoft yesterday though, and today posted an update stating the patch for the Dashboard will be out next Monday already, and the Call of Duty 2 patch is set for release the day after.

We received confirmation from Microsoft that the Xboxic information was indeed accurate and that an update was “imminent”. Unfortunately, that update was supposed to head to production today but a few minor issues pushed the target date back to Monday. There will also be a Call Of Duty 2 update hitting the following day, so next week should be a good one for Xbox 360 owners.

Many, many thanks to Steve for personally reporting this via Xbox Live voice message!

Update: Dashboard update arrived in time, CoD2 update did not it seems. Rumors suggest it will come ‘within two weeks’ but we are verifying this before we post a formal update.

Theirs a glith out for CoD2, allows you to kinda choose your setting, but the big point is, it will allow you to have 16 on x-box live (for further questions this is proven not a rumor, it does work) and will this patch allow 16 online?

i hope this is true man!!! i cant wait!!!!

Hope the COD2 update will also fix the system link issues, and that the Dashboard update will bring more than only fixes ;)

I’m very curious. It would be great if you can completely customize your COD 2 online environment. For instance, choose your own server which has the best connection.

We’ll see

Buck Rogers out

I was playing an online team match last night and it lasted for 30 mins with about 14 players with no lag at all, the level was new as well !!

etalien: at the very least it will bring the webcam support, and I suspect a 50/50 chance of background downloading. But we’ll just have to wait and see :)

How do we get the updates ? Is it automatic ?

Comment by TexyUK on 2006-01-28 16:29:45 | Reply

How do we know -this is a first!
I suspect it will be via the marketplace, but who knows.

Texy

If its not on Major Nelsons blog, the its not true.

It’s not a first actually, first time you connected your Xbox 360 to Live you got an automatic update as well. Best to assume is that the Dashboard update is likewise fully automated when you connect. For CoD2 I think it will be automatic when you start the game, otherwise perhaps a marketplace download indeed.

“If its not on Major Nelsons blog, the its not true.”

More correct would be to say: “if he denies it it is not true”. Considering he doesn’t flat out deny this news, you can safely assume it is true ;)

yes, wait for a update along time to CoD2

I believe it’s true, the information has been circulating around the net for a while with confirmation at least about the Dashboard update. Infinity Ward also said they were looking at the CoD2 issues, and it needs fixing bad, it’s giving them a bad name.

It should all be automated, with the Dashboard updating as soon as you connect to Live and CoD2 as soon as you start the game (or multiplayer).

I really hope they at least double the amount of players on CoD2 multiplyaer. Some maps are just too empty with only 8 people around.

Why is everyone acting like CoD is the only 360 with software issues? Fix alll lthe frickin $70 titles, not just COD.

freon: the Dashboard update is supposed to solve most generic problems such as lost achievements and lockups

What they need to do and not forget about is Maddens 2006 freaking lag!…OH MY GOD, the game sucks so much without any true online gaming, it lags, and lags, and lags and lags….ect. Microsoft! HOW BOUT THAT? huh? anyways, i haven’t heard anyone complaining about that i decided to.

Comment by Darky on 2006-01-29 17:35:56 | Reply

dpapa: Complain to EA

Microsoft didn’t make Madden, and games like PDZ and PGR3 prove there’s no fundamental problem with Xbox Live. So yes, go complain to EA.

man i cant wait for this update… so wait, is it tommorow, tuesday or wednesday? (the dashboard update, not the COD2 update)

Dashboard should be monday, CoD2 tuesday.

Comment by DUDE on 2006-01-29 20:14:35 | Reply

cool man… so we should have it tommorow, how will the thing work tho, will it like prompt me with a messege when i sign in to live or what?

Will 99.99% sure be automatic and forced when you connect to Xbox Live.

This Dashboard update betta bring all the stuff they promised us at E3 2004 and this new CD 2 patch betta fix lag, the so called “unable to join game session” problem, ranking issue, and hosting issues.

[a] “Steve” (Hypothermia) has nothing to do with MS, so he knows nothing more than anyone else.

[b] If MS does not post a date and time then it is merely a rumor

[c] IW only stated they were working on a fix for the CoD2 save issue. They have not stated anywhere that they are doing anything else, so anything else is either rumor or wishful thinking only.

RP, if you look here (http://forums.xbox.com/1663493/ShowPost.aspx) it’s an official post from IW and they talk about fixing lag, nothing to do with Game Saves.

RP is correct, as long as Microsoft doesn’t officially confirm it it should be considered ‘rumor’. The number of inside sources confirming it unofficially makes it a well-founded rumor though.

the patch wou ld probably auto update whenever u sign into xbox live. it probably wont show until after 8 pm pacific time, as that seems to be when things have been updated so far such as demos and arcade games. it could be after midnight before it comes out here on the east coast.

I would never steer you guys wrong! And I certainly would steer Curry and the gang wrong (and vice versa).

Curry had the scoop, we have a few people that work at MS, we confirmed.

When we got a heads up on the patch that Xboxic broke the news on, we passed the info on to Curry ASAP.

Steve

err, that last post was supposed to say WOULDN’T STEER CURRY WRONG…

heh, spell check FTW!

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-01-31 00:02:02 | Reply

Is this just for America or over in good old England as well?

The patch is worldwide (I’m from the Netherlands) and it auto-updates when you log into Xbox Live.

And hi Steve ;)

Back at ya bro!

dream on meatfeeder….you were NOT playing one with a new level!

I hear form the xbox forms that some Bata testers are saying that they will not give us lobes just fix lag and friends to be able to join games

Infinityward are rubbish, We have been waiting for a patch to resolve the online issues for nearly 3 months. So much for their company moto:

“Commited to excellence. Commited for life” My A$$ it should be more ” Commited to taking your money & not giving a stuff”

Customer service is pathetic they dont reply to e-mails or anything.

Thanks for contacting us again. Activision is aware of connection issues and a Live update is being worked on that should address the problem. We do not have a release date yet for this fix but as soon as it is available you will be able to download it via XBox Live.

needless to say I’m not buying Infinityward games. They dont deserve my money.

Stick with a company that knows how to code great games from the start. UBISOFT!
