CliffyB video interview: Gears of War 2?

“The game is essentially Band of Brothers with monsters.”, Cliff Blezinsky tells Bobbi Rebell in an interview at E3 06. Although there is no official release date of Gears of War, we’ve got CliffyB mentioning Gears of War 2. Watch the video. It runs about 3 minutes.

Here’s a small piece of the interview:

Bobbi Rebell:
What goes into designing a game like this?

CliffyB:
Basically you have about 30 or 40 people working their butts off 6 to 7 days a week for two years. You’re making a game that initially isn’t as fun as it could be in various stages of being broken and then when it is fun and it’s no longer broken, you give it to everyone else and they get to enjoy it.

I just want to play the first Gears of War. I need to.

CliffyB would be the Male

CliffyB would be the one without the boobs.

unless you know something that the rest of the world doesn’t, there is no official release date. there are plenty o’ release rumors and speculation, and a few stores have dates listed, but there’s nothing from the publisher.

hell … a few months ago, halo 3 had a posted release date at some stores of October 3, 2006.

October 3rd, 2006: Finish the Fight.

If someone has a reliable source of a release date, i’ll update this post. Just link the source in here.

They’ve openly admitted that this is intended to be a trilogy. Why is the mention of a sequel a surprise then? The timing is strange I suppose, but the admission is hardly news.

This game is taking too long to deploy, and now there’s talk of verion 2. Wow, I think this one may be overated! And out supposedly in October? There will be way to much competition on the market around that time with titles including Splinter Cell, Brothers In Arms, Call of Duty 3, et cetera. I’m probably way off the mark, but my two cents!

I’m chalking the development time up do their wanting to deliver a quality product. Have you seen the gameplay videos on this? IMO it looks great, both in terms of visuals, and also pure gameplay!

I hope you’re off the mark, cuz I am banking my many cold winter months on this one.

oh …. and cliffy, if you’re out there: implement a solid matchmaking system. Look to Halo 2 for guidance on what to do. I want to turn on GOW, and be in a matchmade game w/ comparable ranked others within 90 seconds, and when that game ends, I want to be in another one within 60 more seconds. I want a solid party system where I can create parties, and bring them into games w/ me. Again, Halo has perfected this …. follow the Bungie lead.

There are some excellent 360 games with horrible ranked matchmaking system. Cough … cough … GRAW!

A solid matchmaking system is what’ll give the game lasting popularity and power … why do you think Halo’s still so high on the charts after 1.5+ years? Without it, you’ll enjoy a few months on the charts, and then be relegated to history beacuse no one likes to endure your clunky matchmaking.

I dont’ have insider information, but Gamefly and Gamestop (where I preordered) have both confirmed the date. And nothing is ever a guarantee, even when publishers do confirm dates. October 4 is a good plac eto start looking.
