Chromehounds demo expected June 30th?
It’s definitely a slow news day, so it’s time for some vague rumors from German gaming sites. This one comes from a guy known as Arest on the Xbox.com forums, and states a demo for mech shooter Chromehounds is set to launch on a Marketplace near you June 30th.
The full post as spotted by the guys at Xbox 360 Fanboy:
SEGA gave some new info about CH today!
30/06 a theme pack and the demo will be downloadable from marketplace
11/07 a second theme pack will be available.
15/07 part pack 1 will be on the marketplace
15/08 part pack 2
15/09 part pack 3Sounds good!!!!!!
I read the news on various german gamesides, so a link wouldn´t be useful I suppose…
To begin with, it sounds plausible: the Chromehounds demo was originally announced for E3 but didn’t make it there over a month ago. Also, there is currently a demo actually available on PartnerNet, the limited-access developer-only mirror of Xbox Live.
Any reason not to believe it? Well, plenty as a matter of fact. For starters, June 30th is a Friday and MS doesn’t release content on Fridays to avoid having to endure troubles they can’t fix during the weekend. Secondly, I would’ve preferred the links yeah thank you. My German sucks but I’d be able to read it well enough to validate the source, now no source whatsoever is given in the whole topic. So all we know now is that some guy called Arest claims several German gaming sites think the Chromehounds demo will be up in 10 days.
Our verdict? 80% chance of bullshit, 20% chance of being correct. But I am going to check this with SEGA. Meanwhile, expect the full game to be out July 11th.

To be fair though, SEGA have been marketing this game like a bitch.
Well I’m surprised at there still being no demo for this, assuming that it was given to MS on or just after E3 they are taking their own sweet time about getting the demo out. This demo delay has made the game slip from my ‘must buy’ list to my ‘maybe it isn’t all that, must see what it’s like first’ list.
To be very clear: I’m not calling bullshit on the demo, just on the list of release dates mentioned
Yeah I know - It’s just my concpiracy addled mind at work
“It’s Monday and it’s definitely a slow news day”
? it is tuesday late midday curry..
ps: can’t registrate on the forum.. don’t received a activation mail
Erm yeah it’s Tuesday
Fixed that. Also made some changes in my prediction since I just got confirmation that a Chromehounds demo is actually already being tested on PartnerNet.
About the activation mail: I was already suspecting problems there. I’m going to get back on that after I killed some serveradmins.
How long does a demo normally spend on PartnerNet before it’s released to the great unwashed? Is it a fixed length of time (assuming no issues crop up) or is it until someone feels like it?
I would think that demos would serve the company best either the week of launching the demo’d game or several weeks or months later. Demo’s to me serve as a reason to go pick up the game. Also, releasing too much content in a game demo can hinder sales IMO, Battlefield 2 comes to mind. I am looking forward to Chromehounds but I will probably rent it anyway as it seems like it will be a quality title.
Yeah i hope it’ll be a quality title too, but they released screenshots with graphical glitches in it so that’s not very promising
Why would they release a part park (guessing this is for the mechs) 4 days after they release the game? Why would the parts not make it to the retail version?
Do they expect people to be bored of it by then?
It might be 4 days after they release the game, but it’s probably at least a month after the game’s code has gone gold, so it might be they were supposed to be in the retail version but didn’t make it in time.
On one hand I suppose at least they’re getting the new content out early, but yeah they could easily hold onto it for a little while.
I’m sure I read somewhere that this ‘parts pack’ is actually a short cut - The parts contained in are for use in the MP game, but you can earn them for free by completing the SP game. There is always the possibility that I am talking bollox of course, but it’s what I read.
Good point about the parts pack coming out so soon. I think it just ticks people off when they have to pay for content a month after the game came out (!COUGH! Oblivion !COUGH!) … at any rate, new content is always welcome, I just don’t like paying for it most of the time. Now, a map pack a year after a game comes out for 5 or 10 bucks, I can do that easily, to me, it brings new life to old games.
i think mayb sega will want it out on the 30, but most likely it wont show until the following tuesday. happens everytime a demo comes out. i really wish that they wouldnt do that. just tell us the demo is out when its out.
