Cipher Complex announced

You’re government agent John Cipher, sneaking around the dark halls of Siberia looking for a downed recon satellite. Sneaking around under bright flourescent lighting is never a good idea, so you shoot the light. Those guys under it are programmed to just stand there until you wave a gun five inches in front of their face, right? Wrong. They’re going to get that light fixed, they’re going to find you, and they’re going to kill you. This is Cipher Complex, coming to a 360 near you next year.

IGN has a rather lengthy preview of the game, and that’s about how Edge of Reality - that would be the developer - describes it.

Our AI is contextually tuned to their specific environments…If you’re trying to sneak around an area and shoot out a light, the enemies aren’t going to just stand around doing nothing. One of them might think something is up and become more cautious and start looking around more actively. Another guy might call for help from a cohort, while another may just signal for a repairman to come along and fix the problem altogether.

Edge of Reality - an Austin, Texas developer that did some N64 ports back in the 90’s (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Spider-Man) and some licensed games after that (Shark Tale and Pitfall) - is keeping mum about the gameplay right now simply because they don’t think they can explain it well until you can see it in action. But we can rest assured it’s going to have a lot to do with the environments, and a lot to do with the AI.

Concept art, not a screen. But you knew that.

We wanted to treat the environment like a character in and of itself.

AI is very important to the user experience and with our understanding of that section of gameplay we want to make sure that experience is a strong one.

They’ve expressed interest in a team-based multiplayer mode for the final game, and an engaging single-player story penned by someone who’s worked on The Chronicles of Narnia and The Thin Red Line. Such a narrative would feature John Cipher and his search for the satellite in Siberia with the other characters, females Coldwell and Mishka and the older man Anakov.

The developers talk about the idea of limited character growth, vehicles, and destructable things in the environments. Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers will get to play the game when it comes out in 2007.

Thanks to Predator GR for sending this in.

dam i thought this was old so i didnt send it in.
ya that concept art is awesome, if they game looks anything like that then im sold. Reminds me of splinter cell though.

I didn’t care too much when I saw it in the newsequeue but a figured “Hey, I’m writing stuff, people’ll want to know, might as well.” (Actually, you’d also want to know a few things about Assassin’s Creed that I will get to later tonight.) But then I read up on it and I’m looking forward to it. I love physics and AI \o/

Hmmm.. Kinda sounds like a splinter cell multiplayer copy cat look how the guy is sneaking up on him looks just like chaos theory.but it sounds fun

Don’t worry children, Sam Fisher will still remain the daddy of stealth games.

fish might be the daddy, but snake is the grand daddy. mgs3 is an amazing game, i pesonally think its only behind resident evil 4 as the best game last generation.

MGS2 killed all the Metal gear Solids in my opinion. it’s all about preference I suppose.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is going to be the best MGS game.
