Special: Mad Tracks
It’s been a while since we reported on upcoming Xbox Live Arcade racer Mad Tracks, and at that time not too much was known yet about the XBLA edition of this Car Arcade Party Game as they call it. That was before French Load Inc. big wig Denis Bourdain joined the Xboxic forum himself to answer any question we might have. And answer he did!
Essentially the game is about racing small cars in familiar environments like living rooms, kitchens and ball rooms. Micro Machines anyone? Sure, but this time obviously in full 3D, and you will be competing in all sorts of challenges, both racing and minigames like foosball, darts and bowling. The most important features:
- Multiplayer up to 4 only split screen (we promise the next title will be live, we have been working on it).
- High rez HDTV real time 3D & optimized frame rate (thanks to the Xbox pa-wer)
- 15 challenges (races & mini games - yes, you will play foos ball & pool)
- 12 pick ups - remember ReVolt? Well in Mad Tracks, you can stack them up and switch.
- 360 specific menu & interface
- 48 leaderboards to see who’s got the biggest
- Modes will include: Championship & Arcade
Shame about no Live support, but the 48 leaderboards, used for tracking times and so-called Mad Points, and 4 player split screen madness hopefully more than make up for this:
Whereas the original PC game (demo downloadable here) was over 300MB in size, the guys managed to squeeze it down into the 50MB XBLA limit, meanwhile enhancing the game and optimizing it for HDTV. Now there’s proof that bloated code is the hallmark of the sloppy developer if ever I saw one. As Denis puts it: “This thing [the Xbox 360 - ed.] can eat, digest, process and dispose of about anything.”
The game will be having the regular 12 Achievements for XBLA games. The only one we know of so far is a 10GP Achievement called “8 Ball : Win a pool game without pocketing the black ball. 10 Pts.”, but at least they will all be used to force you play every aspect of the game. Some regular ones will be there like achieving all medals of a specific color, but there will also be an achievement that requires you to compete in split screen and one that forces to you to find hidden objects in free roaming maps.
So when will we be getting our hands on this game? Denis is cautious, trying to avoid Capcom-style Street Fighter 2 deceptions, but will say that they aim to pass first MS certification mid July, and then it’s up to Microsoft to set the final release date. Hopefully this will lead to an August release, but no solid promises. We’ve seen what happens with solid dates for Marketplace release dates mmmkay?
If the guys at Load Inc. have their say the game will cost 800MP since they don’t favor the 1200MP price point, but again MS will have also have a say in this. There will also be DLC available for the game, like Mad Tracks Encore and Mad Tracks Bravo, both supplying an extra 15 challenges to the game.
Are you also excited about the game, or just looking for more information? Either way, register on our forum and join in on this topic, Denis will be more than happy to answer anything you throw at him it seems.

Nice special! Thanks Denis!
Mad Tracks FTW!!!
I look forward to beating you all on the leaderboards from day one
No Xbox Live play may be a dealbreaker for me. 4 player split screen means nothing to me. I have only 1 controller and I don’t have friends over to play videogames.
I was looking forward to this game. Not so much now. I’ll still try the demo at least.
I agree. This game looks a blast and i would love it. But i think you will loose my purchase for not having Xbox Live built in.
Lack of Live is a disappointment but can’t say I’m honestly bothered by it. This is just a genious game for having 3 pals over and a lot of beer and a night of fun. For Live I’ll pick the more serious games like GRAW.
I’ve always hated split-screen on racing games. I think one of the few that was ok was the original Mario Kart, because the tracks were so minimalist.
Something like this, with a lot of loops and very graphically interesting scenery will be a pain to play split-screen. Hell, even PGR3 annoys me in that sense.
Computer AI’s still pretty good, it was hammering me on Normal difficulty.
Nobody ever complained that Micro Machines didn’t have online play, that didn’t stop it being awesome
Was Micro Machines split-screen? I thought you were both on the same screen and had to basically keep up or die…
Memory’s fuzzy, though.
The main reason I’m complaining is because when Mad Tracks was first announced, it had Xbox Live multiplayer. It was something that was removed. The first announcement got me excited because it made me think back to playing Re-Volt during the Xbox Live beta.
I want a simple little racer that’s easy to jump into.
Every time you guys say Micro Machines I think of the toys. I had Anakin’s Podracer, and Sebulba’s…
Denis is Developer of Awesome for joining our forum and sending ChrisBenoit23 a free game. And come on, he’s adding a web browser to the game!
love it!
it doesnt seem like many tracks will be available
uggg i was soooo looking forward to this, but no XBL broke the deal for me i was soooooo looking forward to XBL with mad tracks argggggg come on guys be smart add it before release… if they add XBL and have it for 800MP this will easily outsellf geo wars.
No LIVE , the PODGE is very very disapointed.
sorry but this is a no go now for the PODGE due to no XBL support.
the PODGE posts the same thing twice
The PODGE is the best poster

I thought MadTracks sounded like a great little diversion for LIVE play. I have to admit, with no LIVE play this is a dealbreaker for me. If I would have people over to play games, there’s too many great games to play already, but on LIVE this game sounded like it could have been awesome. What a shame!
honestly, the live aspect is very disappointing but i am thinking about buying this game not only because the single player portion looks fun, but i would really like to support developers that actually care about the customers, like Denis.
I’ll support him by buying his next racing game with Live support.
Lol. me too. I would rather they delay it and put live support in. Or could this be added later denis?
