If you expected RR6 (count em SIX) to handle different to the previous incarnations then I think you were probably being a little naive.

Personally, I think the Ridge Racer series is OK, hardly the greatest franchise in the world. But qwhen you get a Ridge Racer game you know what your getting;

Cars that stick to the road like glue then all of a sudden start sliding around when you tap the brakes. Cheesy techno / trance soundtrack. Commentators. PacMan. Epic skylines / vistas & Keiko

Personally I enjoy Ridge Racer 6, its in my 360 collection alongside the likes of PGR3, Burnout & NFS:MW. Okay so I haven’t played it as thoroughly as PGR3 but there are things that I do find refreshing in RR6.

Its about 3 things: You, a car & a track. There are times when I want to progress through a racing game by coming first in a race. I don’t want to have make a car crash into a barrier in the right place. Or drive through an endless stream of cones with an ever decreasing clock. Personally I found it quite refreshing to play a racing game that was about racing, pure and simple.

It boils down to this. You either enjoy the arcade / Ridge Racer style drift handling or you don’t.

And just because you dont enjoy the drift handling, that’s simply not enough to make it a crap game.

Your right it’s just an opinion,all I’m saying is that for it to be a 7 you would not regret spending money on it and i regreted downloading the demo.I’m a big racing fan though and after playing PGR3 it’s just sets the bar much higher for other games.

Do “racing fans” even exist? I myself truly like NFSMW, have fun with PGR3, dislike Formula 1 and rally games. I wouldn’t even consider shelling out money for a “racing game”, I got NFSMW at discount and PGR3 for free.

What I am trying to say is that so many people have so many opinions. I find it funny that people are always complaining about the final score of a review. I’d be worried if people were pointing out actual errors in the review text itself, but that hasn’t happened yet. The score is nothing more than the reviewer’s weighted appraisal of what he wrote in the review itself. Everyone can weigh these things otherwise though.

So our resident boxing fan (do we have one?) would pick up that game, and as a fan of boxing games, he would more than likely review it positively unless it really sucked.

That’s also the core of our way of working. I want people who like the genre to review the game, because they will be the ones that can burn or praise the game properly. We had a flightsim lover review Over G Fighters… it got a 4 for a reason.

Thanks for the sensible post fella. But its that dislike of the arcade racer which is why my whole review was very conscientious about stressing that certain types won’t enjoy this but where as others would appreciate its ease to play. It really isn’t for everyone, and probably not really completely for racing fans.

Ulitmately its isn’t a game that I particulary was ‘wowed’ by or anything, it was solid and catered for exactly what I bought it for. To be an arcade racer that I could dip in and out off when I pleased.

It’s not only filled that need, but also without glitches, gameplay issues, etc. Overall you can’t really say its changed a great deal, its Ridge Racer, but Ridge Racer was always a fun game to play, and in my opinion still is. Which gave it a stronger than average score.

Again tho, this is all pretty much in the review.

You’ll have to realize that a game has to be terrible for the Xboxic reviewer to not like it. We basically like all kinds of games, and if we don’t, we wouldn’t be playing the one we’re reviewing anyway. Unlike IGN, we have to buy and pick our own games, and we don’t do this stuff full time. So if I were to review, say, Viva Pinata, it was because I was pretty sure I was going to like that one anyway.

I’m not a huge fan of boxing games, so you won’t see me review Fight Night Round 4 unless Curry sends me the game with a note attatched saying “Review this or you’re fired.” So our resident boxing fan (do we have one?) would pick up that game, and as a fan of boxing games, he would more than likely review it positively unless it really sucked.

I think Verbal does his reviews right (better than I do anyway). If you’re going to flame him, make sure you have good reason mmmkay?

I really hope you have a strong heart if you run around websites complaining about every review you do not agree with, because I know for myself that’s an awful lot of them. As stated, a review is good in combination with its score, because it allows you to see how the reviewer came to his score. You can then read it and apply your own weighing to their arguments and remarks, and thus come to a completely different score because you find other things to be important.

The vast majority of Xbox360 games I’ve enjoyed a lot. Particularly Oblivion, GRAW, Burnout Revenge, Hitman: Blood Money.

I feel that this incarnation of Ridge Racer deserves its 7 out of 10, on the grounds that it is a technically good, solidly produced game, its fast and fun with no real gameplay flaws.

But at the same time its not going to win any awards for originality, groundbreaking gameplay or graphical excellence.

All I have done here is played the game, produced a review based on my personal experience and enjoyment of the game. To borrow a phrase from Nino, its a good game but not groundbreaking. Hence its score.

I have followed the series true, and I can assure you that i rate some of the other versions (at the time of playing them) in much higher regard than I did with RR6.

In a similar fashion, you have now idea how when I wrote my SF2 review, with it being a game I’ve played much of my life, how much it irked me that i could only give it a 7/10… In an ideal world, had it worked as well as promised for an XBLA title it would have easily been an 8 or 9. It had flaws yes, but on the whole the game was is an enojoyable experience.

If your not going to review a game honestly based on its strong and weak points, whats the point in being a writing for a site like this?

Mind you, i’ve covered all of my points for and against the games in each review, so its not like I’m not looking at things from a critical perspective.

Also when I had played these games they were fun because I had never driven a real car at that point, so for all I knew, that was what they were like. Now that I have been driving real cars for years, and played realistic racing games, it’s strange to play a game where your car is warped to an ice skating rink every time you lift off the gas.

As for car variety, you have 3 types in each class. Slow understeering cars, mid speed “normal” cars, and the fast cars that spin around like a dreidel.

I think this is a “5″ game because it is a niche game, and has a level of depth you’d expect from an Xbox Live Arcade game for a $60 sticker. In the 1.5 days, 30ish races I played I went from optimistic to openly disliking it. Rating it from a personal bias, would be a 3, but that just wouldn’t be fair.
