Acclaim franchises to hit the Xbox Live Arcade?
Back in September 2004, video game publisher Acclaim Entertainment filed for bankruptcy and became a defunct company. Its brand name successor, Acclaim Games, is “the first US major brand to bring some of the most successful online games…and multiplayer experience that the 36 million U.S. tweens and the 41 million European tweens want.” Thank God then that rather than these guys, it was Throwback Entertainment that acquired all of Acclaim’s licenses, and is now looking to put them on our beloved XBL Arcade.
Thomas Maduri, Throwback’s CEO, actually flat-out said:
I think a fundamental problem Acclaim had with many of these franchises is there weren’t services like Xbox Live Arcade, or non-traditional platforms like Nintendo is providing with the DS, and [the] anticipated Wii console, available to them when many of these games were created. A game like Re-Volt or Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls would be a perfect fit for the Xbox Live Arcade service. They provide quick gameplay, and do not possess a substantial learning curve for the controls. These services will create new markets using existing console technology, so in that sense they will be console-based, but in a non-mainstream format. Throwback is planning on taking advantage of those and any other yet-to-be-announced platforms or services we could potentially benefit from.

Which company owns the license for that Jurassic Park game that was on the Genesis oh so long ago?
I hate Batman Forever. I hate it so much.
It’s Sega. Blue Sky Studios owned by Sega developed it.
I just want WWF Attitude to come to the XBLM. It’s the only wrestleing game, where you have to actually press more than one minute to do a special…
Oh god, did I just say that aloud? Damnit!
Where’s NBA Jam when you need it
Yes, Re-Volt!! I loved playing that game during the Xbox Live beta. It better have multiplayer.
NBA Jam now that was a seriously cool game , nothing like a 9 point slam dunk from the other side of the court ;D
I love revolt what a classic still play it on my dreamcast but wouldlove to play it on live with my buddies classic old skool game.
Yeah but, we don’t need Re-volt. We have Mad Tracks
turok as the first xbla fps? heck yeah. clean that puppy up some and add some online and we are good to go. xtreme-g is a great choice also. heck any of acclaims n64 titles from wrestling to shadowman would be great. just not the ps2 games, though they are too big anyways, thank god.
I concur regarding NBA Jam. Imagine that game online, 2v2, with 2 players on each team (like double team) or 2v2 with 1 player on each team, along with the computer controlled counterparts. Rankings and such regarding the different games… I think that would be RAWESOME (RAWESOME=raw awesomeness, which always must be capitalize)
i wonder if that x-men game is the one i remember from nes? worst game ever (i loved it).
bart vs the space mutants good times , good
times
