Is the cost of Marketplace Points going up?

Micro transactions, the ideal way for manufacturers of next-gen consoles to get that little bit of extra cash out of your wallet. You pay 20 bucks, you get 1600 points and you’re able to buy 2 Xbox Live Arcade games and some Gamer Pictures. Seems pretty fair huh? Well a poster called ‘drunk pandas’ posted a thread on the official Xbox forums about how he noticed that both Gamestop and EB Games started selling the prepaid card for 1600 MP’s for 25$, instead of the 20$ it used to cost. Could this mean that the price for MP’s is going up? Microsoft hasn’t said anything yet and European retailers are still selling 2100 points for 25€ so we’re not sure but we really hope this is limited to Gamestop and EB.

Muchos $$$

So the big question is, what do you have to pay for your MPs at your local games retailer?

Thanks for submitting drunk pandas!

I just pay £17 over Live and get 2000, quick and instant.

Yeah, who buys these stupid cards? Not as if you can use them if you haven’t got Live, but then you might aswell buy them over Live :S

Yup, and its not even as if buying in the shops saves you money. It works out the same.

While it is easier and faster to get them over Live itself, Play.com sells cards cheaper than Live sells points. It’s only a small discount (5% or so), but if you’re on a tight budget it’s worth considering (free delivery to the UK, but it takes 2 or 3 days).

I get my annual XBL subscription from them, because it saves me £5 over doing it on the console, but I buy all my MS Points over Live for the simplicity.

Buy em live as well, means I don’t have to leave my house and interact with real people or run the risk of the sun melting through my tender white skin.

Lol, thats not the reason I don’t buy cards! I feel for you man! ;)

If the price goes up for the cards, you know it’ll go up for the online transactions too.

No you don’t. Microsoft charges directly for the online transactions, and who knows what profit margin Best Buy and co want on the cards?

If that’s true, Best Buy makes just as much as Microsoft does, since when you do the math…It comes out as the same. (As of Now.)

Yeah, thats if Microsoft are making the price changes. If not, then they should remain the same… I hope!

Btw, just looked at the Wiki, how do you know Texas Hold em is coming out on the 23rd? Or are you guessing?

Just wait 5 minutes and you’ll know everything you need to know :)

hey bestbuy still has them for 20 bucks so you should just buy them from best buy from now on

In the stores near me they are 30 euros :-(. But I’ve seen the same 2100 MSP for 25 euros in one store called ‘free record shop’.

Maybe the cards are just meant to be used as gifts. Say if I wanted to give my nephew some MS points then I could do it with a card. My guess is that it is just EB Games being greedy, they probably only broke even at $20 per card so they want to make a few bucks off grandma and grandpa.

80 points at any retailer is a $1.00, including Microsoft through online transaction, and you actually get .04 more points per $1.00 if you buy a card.

you can get the 1600 pt cards from best buy for $15 if you get one of their gift cards that has a $5 off coupon inside. doing that has probably saved me about $25 or so on ms points so far.

NEVER FEAR People! :)

I have moved my converter to a new domain http://www.mspconverter.com

It’s worth mentioning that I now list all of the new marketplace place Items on a handy drop down. Check it out.

ps. my site shouldn’t explode ! I just upped the bandwidth by 10x
