Half-Life 2 definitely heading to PS3 and 360

Half Life 2 Episode 1 box artOur Dutch colleagues of FOK!games got the scoop from Gamespot’s transcription of EA’s Summer Showcase event: Valve superhero Gabe Newell himself confirmed that Half-Life 2 will be heading to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Nearly 2 months ago Xboxic had already reported on game stores listing the legendary PC shooter for Xbox 360, but we dismissed it at the time, saying nobody would be waiting anymore for a 2004 game unless they included all the updates and expansions as well. Guess what, they listened to us (or more probably: showed some common sense themselves).

And hey, Half-Life 2: Ep 2 will ship for Xbox 360 and PS3 simultaneously with the PC. The console games will basically include all of the HL2 back content, so you’ll get everything on there that you can get on the PC. Who expected all this Valve news?

Multiplayer fans will be delighted to hear the long-delayed Team Fortress 2 will also be released in the Episode 2 package, although Shacknews got a disappointing call with extra info straight from the show floors:

- Episode 2 will also include an experimental game called Portal which is a bit more puzzle oriented. Similar to the portal tech seen in Prey but of course a bit more advanced
- The Xbox360 and PS3 releases will come out on the same day as Episode2 for the PC. The 360 and PS3 versions will be HL2 + Ep1 + Ep2 but will not include TF2 or Portal

Now that’s a bitch, but alright: CS Source should be in there still I suppose. Episode 2 is slated for release “TBA 2006″, which would be December considering the PS3 reference, but to ease the pain don’t forget that Half-Life 2 was released for Xbox 1 and is actually backwards compatible, so you can still go out kill some of them Combine during the wait for a native port.

kul news. if they enhance the graphics a lil bit n make a great port (or not since its alreadys on xbox) then it looks like a must to me

Gamespot claims the Source engine is *massively* updated for Episode 2, showing off many new graphical tricks. I don’t expect any updates to the levels of the original and Ep. 1, but they should be rendered far more beautiful than before with all the HDR beauty etc.

I remember playing Lost Coast on my P-M 1.6Ghz with Geforce Go6800, on which I completed the original HL2 twice on 1920×1200 resolution with most fancy stuff enabled. Lost Coast was a freaking slideshow with especially the HDR enhancements, but it sure was pretty.

I’m definitely a buyer for this big pack, and am praying Episode 3 will be DLC via Marketplace.

I played HL2 when it first came to PC. I haven’t played Episode 1 yet. Maybe I’ll just buy HL2 for the 360 and play E1 & E2 that way. I’m assuming E3 will be DLC.

It will have all kinds of crap.

original Half-Life 2
Episode 1 & 2
Team Fortress 2
Portal - mini-game with a gun that opens portals to other parts of the map

They are absolutely retarded if they think they can release this game without online multiplayer support…? They HAVE to include Portal and Team Fortress 2, dammit! Awesome news though!

As if that wasn’t enough to get excited about already, the long-awaited military team-based shooter Team Fortress 2 will be included with the games as well.
