Colin McRae: DIRT announced

Codemasters just announced a new installment in the Colin McRae series by the name of Colin McRae DIRT, or DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road in the US of A, to be released simultaneously on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2007. The game features gravel, mud and dirt events all over the world. Events will include the series’ intense point-to-point races and will supposedly take players further off-road than ever before. More info & screens after the jump.

Race in challenging heavyweight 850bhp cars, drifting on the loose gravel and high-speed blind corners of Hill Climb events along perilous cliff edges. All 12.4 miles of the world famous Pikes Peak International is included, with over 150 precarious turns to negotiate through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

How about engaging in multiple car races with Dakar-style trucks and super-powered 4×4s on the toughest desert terrain in Rally Raid competitions? Then there are Rally Cross events, switching between dirt and road racing, where the competition is always tight, fast and collisions with your opponents are inevitable.

With more off-road racing styles to be revealed, Colin McRae: DIRT™ will also offer a dedicated mode for European, International and Global rally championships featuring official 2WD, 4WD, Classic and RWD rally cars.

With all the press release mumbo-jumbo and the screenshots below it seems that this game will be a nice gem in your games collection.

True next-gen racing! But are these screens 360 or PS3?

Whatever they are, they look just as good as those PS3 tech demo’s of E3:05 (I think it was) with that Motorstorm game.

Have you seen some ingame vids of motorstorm?
It doesn’t even come near the ‘ingame video’ they showed at E3:05.

The shots above look nice but ingame shots don’t mean shit :).

They didn’t specify that. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they are not ingame.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW THAT GAME LOOKS AMAZING

if they utilize the cod3 smoke system to do the dirt clouds that would be wicked :)… the dirt clouds and the rocks spewing and the sheer feeling of speed is what makes offroad great…

Motorstorm for the ps3 looks… boring now that they actually showed what it really looks like (stupid sony and their fake videos) … i really hope this one comes out to be good.

Lets just hope they don’t slap a load of blur effects over it to cover-up shameful graphics.

Sadly enough, these shots are no screenshots, they are just target renders. The only positive thing about it is, the models that are shown in the shots are used for in the game, but that may say not with the same polygon count.
