Think you got what it takes to write for us?

Well, here’s your chance to prove it! Xboxic is looking to expand its team with capable news posters to assist us in bringing you guys more news than any other site, before any other site. So if you’ve always wanted to try and stay sane under the benevolent dictatorship of a crazy bunch of Dutchies, read on.

The profile of our perfect candidate:

  • We want you!Very extremely top-notch solid English writing skills.
  • Able to write both entertaining and informing at the same time. Unlike most other sites, we appreciate a unique and identifying style.
  • Global interest in anything related to gaming, not just Xbox.
  • Strong opinion on things and not scared to voice it.
  • Basic knowledge of XHTML/HTML.
  • Good general knowledge of games, gaming hardware, game concepts and the games industry.
  • Community minded, willing to participate actively in our comments and forum.
  • Nationality and location do not matter, assuming you know the English language.
  • Got some spare minutes to spend on a daily or near-daily basis.

Think this is you I’m describing, or at least a close enough match? Well then: write a letter explaining your gaming and/or writing history and why you are perfect for the job, add 3 articles to show off your capabilities, and send them off including your MSN-address to iwanttowritefor@xboxic.com. The three articles can cover any subject you choose, new or old, but at least one of them has to be hardware related and one of them has to cover a rumor.

Keep in mind that Xboxic is not a professional organization paying solid gold for your efforts. In our 6 month existence we’ve grown hard, currently serving over 1 million pageviews per month, but we’re not (yet) at the level where we can discuss stock options, company cars and yearly raises. Writing for Xboxic is fun, it’s cool to have lots of people appreciate your writing, you get to meet a lot of other gamers, it’s a way of getting writing experience, and you will even get some minor compensation for your efforts. But it’s not a job ;)

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

I would send some stuff off, but you ruled me out with the “basic understanding of XHTML and HTML” part sadly.

But I think it’s great what you guys are doing with this, and what you guys have achieved over the past six months. I’ve really enjoyed being “with” your site (as a reader) and it has been obvious to see the site growing. Keep it up, I love my homepage!

If the XHTML/HTML part is the only thing holding you back don’t hesitate: the “basic understanding” really means nothing more than understanding that HTML consists of opening and closing tags and I’ll gladly have the rest of what you need to know explained in 15 mins if you qualify on the other counts ;)

Most of the complex HTML, most notably image layout, is automatically generated by the backend software anyway.

Ooooo, I can do HTML, can I play?

Helloooo check my marquee opening and closing tags, ain’t I good

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-25 12:55:57 | Reply

Oh well i take it the marquee tags arn’t enabled, guess I’ll just skulk off now, but i’ll be back to get you all for making a fool of me.

Ha Ha Ha (in a manical style)

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 13:00:02 | Reply

LOl, idiot ;)

You made a fool of yourself.. ;) And as B.A. Baracus would say :”I pitty the fool..!” :)

The enabled tags in comments are shown below in the reply box mmmkay ;)

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-25 14:11:29 | Reply

Well at least I tried, just think, if it was enabled you could have had a lovely string of words moving across the screen, bah foiled.

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 13:02:16 | Reply

OK, well I’ll get some stuff together then. I know how to open and close tags, I think. Wikipedia is bound to produce some stuff anyway! I go on holiday on Thursday for two weeks though so if you “close” this, I won’t know the results for a while! Also, can the rumour be an old rumour, or one just surfacing at the moment or what?!

Any rumor is fine, and no closing dates for now :)

Comment by Chris Benoit23 on 2006-07-25 13:02:45 | Reply

Extremely interesting.

I’d love to do it but you never mentioned if being 14 years old is a problem. If it isn’t, I’m certainly going to apply.

Thanks for making me feel old :|..
hmm.. a 23 in your name, but actually 14? liar! haha

Comment by Chris Benoit23 on 2006-07-25 13:07:47 | Reply

The 23 is only there because “Chris Benoit” was taken when I signed up to Xbox Live. So, I added 23, because that is the date I was born.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-01 16:35:43 | Reply

No there is a 23 in there so you can chat up old men who like wrestling as much as you.

If being 14 years old means whining with a high-pitched voice during Halo 2 matches… yep might pose a problem :P

If you just fit the profile though, I don’t care if you’re 10 or 80 :)

Comment by Chris Benoit23 on 2006-07-25 18:05:22 | Reply

I don’t even play Halo 2! I’m dreadful at it!

I’m going to think about it, but it would be really cool posting on Xboxic.

I’ll be in touch.

Hmmm and with 25 now i feel old as well :D

I’m more than curious (or should I say curry-us) but unfortunately I’m heading out on vacation this friday and work is stocked like a m#$$%# on my desk… hmmm… I could skip lunch. And breakfast. Dinner even. Why sleep actually :)

There’s no hurry or closing date :)

Comment by Chris Benoit23 on 2006-07-25 13:12:55 | Reply

Well… my mission to make two fairly young adults feel old is complete. A job well done, I believe.

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 14:02:20 | Reply

Btw, I found it amusing that you said “Very extremely top-notch solid English writing skills.” are required, when the title of this post does not meet the requirements!

ie; it should be either: think “you’VE” got what… etc, or think you “HAVE”…

Sorry, but I thought I’d point it out! I’m “cool” like that! ;)

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-25 14:12:41 | Reply

I however picked up on the sacrcasm of the statement “extremely top-notch solid English writing skills.” Which in itself is terrible grammar.

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 14:18:57 | Reply

Lol, true! I’m just pedantic!

Curry got his ass handed to him :D

Comment by Meppel on 2006-07-25 16:55:37 | Reply

The harder they come, the harder they fall.

The title was intentionally chosen to be in popular English spelling ;)

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 23:59:17 | Reply

Lol, good dodge, I like it :P

And, out of interest, why don’t you post in your native tongue? Beause you appeal to more people in English due to it being the most popular language? Because some sites don’t, wondered why you are different.

Why write for a 20 million audience when you could be writing for a 2 billion audience?

@ Meppel: “ofcourse” is a common small mistake for non-native English speakers, as is writing plurals with an apostroph for those whose native language is Dutch. Sue me, I’m Dutch ;)

Comment by Meppel on 2006-07-26 00:47:48 | Reply

To admit that you are wrong at times would make you a brave one.

Which part of me admitting to frequently making at least those 2 common mistakes was unclear?

Apart from that, the title was intentionally chosen to be in popular English and I honestly can’t give a shit ’bout whether you buy that or not :)

Comment by Meppel on 2006-07-26 00:16:32 | Reply

I’m not going to buy this one.
You even don’t know how to write of course, you always write ofcourse.

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-26 23:09:28 | Reply

Get the fuck out of here dickhead. The guys at Xboxic have achieved way more than you could have in six months, and bearing in mind most of them aren’t English/English is not their first language, they do pretty well really. Yes we joke about it, but there is no reason for you to take your aggressive stance and be all whiney. Now go to bed and keep reading that dictionary you clearly love

Hey I was just wondering, since you’ve stated that the writing position isn’t a job, will you be paying people, and if so, what will be the wages, I’d like to say I’m a good writer, and would not mind writing, on the side while I go to school, but for me, between work and school, there would have to be an incentive, to get me to space the time for my lady and my 360. That’s just me though!!!

This must be the longest sentence I’ve ever read.. awesome..;)

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 16:11:57 | Reply

Lol, ‘tiz a long, long sentence, but he is a great writer so we can let him off :p

Forget the wages, they’re there and they’re sufficient but if you’re doing it for the moneah than you’re not what we’re looking for.

If you’re in it for the money go apply for a job at OXM, IGN or Gamespot… We simply don’t have budget for real payment (yet), so we’re in it for fun with minor compensation :)

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-25 16:26:55 | Reply

Well he clearly lied about being a great writer with that example, so what else you lied about.

I don’t think you have a good lady so toddle off and flick your bawbag on your own, boy.

The skills in english have got I. Write for you I can?

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-26 16:56:48 | Reply

Okay yoda.

Yes, I was an idiot with the posting tools and just in general anyway. Curry and Nino did show me the light!

So you’re a Jehova’s witness now? :P

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 20:57:41 | Reply

Haha, that made me laugh!

I’m being replaced :(

good riddance :P

That’s cold!

It’s a joke. Doug is my favorite poster ;)

How can you pick a favourite poster? You’re all great!

All those sarcastic article titles you guys come up with make you all great. I love sarcasim.

And yet you can’t spell it?! :P

damnit.. you beat me to it.. lol..

To quote Nino:

Of course you can pick a favorite poster. :)

Bit to much obvious man love going on in those posts. I was maybe going to give it a bash, but looks like all the admin staff could be getting their own stalker when Chris Benoit comes of age.

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 21:26:37 | Reply

BTW Curry, does it make a difference on the length of articles we supply?

Tsk, Curry’s not the only one calling the shots here ;). But ehm, well yeah look at the length of general Xboxic articles. The longer the better of course.

Comment by Rossko UK on 2006-07-25 21:55:06 | Reply

Lol sorry, that wasn’t made obvious. No disrepect to you other guys! I love you all really!

Thats what the ladies say.

Comment by Nekro on 2006-07-26 00:31:02 | Reply

I’ll have a go at this. But I probably wont get past the first level :P

You know, this offer sounds good, but what I want to know, is if you will make a conscious effort to get someone to write during the American period (about 2-6 am GMT time). I love Xboxic, but the stories are always right there when I get on the computer, and no new ones pop us during the time I am on, (from like 9 pm to 2-4 am.) And yes Cage and Rossko, i’m going for the longest commment ever in a post about newsposter position at xboxic.com being available for the masses.

We already have 2 Americans and 1 Brit. But a third American is not out of the question, as we said; we don’t care where the new poster is from. Good point though, we’d really like some more around the clock coverage… :)

Xploited13 is an extraterrestrial?

He’s MIA, that’s what he is :(

There’s no hurry or closing date

If you’re good, we won’t turn you away just because you take longer than everyone else.

Do writers get access to the “special” forums? :D

Yes :P

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-26 17:00:15 | Reply

Do people in the special forums get access to the special schools and special bus trips for special kids?

No, but we could make an exception for you!

LOL Glovner :D

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-27 16:57:17 | Reply

No need to make an exception for me Rival, just give me a loan of your lifetime special bus pass and I can see what all the fuss is about.

Um, never mind… I just saw a comment regarding that a few spaces above mine. :)

Comment by Emily on 2006-07-27 04:18:47 | Reply

How about a female poster =)

Females + games = generally a bad idea, ask Morgan Webb about it. But maybe you can use Chris’ account? Nobody will notice… ;)

Comment by Emily on 2006-07-27 15:55:43 | Reply

That’s not a bit sexist at all. I think it’s pretty shitty that a website (whose audience of 2 billion is probably 50% female) isn’t OPEN to a female poster. Nice job. I applaud you.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-27 16:55:07 | Reply

They didm’t actually deny you though, just commented that it is generally a bad idea, I can see there point in a way as they don’t make games like barbie meets my little pony for a platform picnic for the guys. But I also know women who are shit hot gamers and clearly have something to offer, so if you think thats you why not prove them wrong and submit something to them, no need to be so defensive.

Comment by Emily on 2006-07-27 19:15:54 | Reply

Well suggesting that for me to post, i’d need to use my boyfriends newsposter account…generally means denial. I just think it’s a shitty thing to even bring up, that women and games don’t mix. And why the hell do girls have to put up with the reputation of playing ONLY barbie and my little pony? Sure, we can do those, see my Barbie Horse Adventure thread in the forum. But i can enjoy others as well, see my Tomb Raider thread as well. So me getting defensive, A) is none of your business, and B) completely warranted. Thanks for the thought.

I myself would love to see a female newsposter.. Then there would finally be some posts without testosterone.. :P She would instantly be my favorite poster and I would love to see her picture in the xboxic logo.. That would be so sweet.. darn.

Emily ; you can always try to apply, it’s just that girls + games usually don’t mix very well, recently proven by Morgan Webb, the members of the PMS clan in their E3 coverage on the Marketplace and Tina Wood interview the guys from Epic. Prove us wrong, submit 3 killer articles and it’s all good! :P

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-07-28 13:54:35 | Reply

Okay well pardon me for trying to lighten the mood and stick up for you a bit.

I do believe I commented on the fact that I have female friends that are shit hot on games, its just that the stereotype is quite rife for female gamers, which is why you should perhaps try and prove them wrong.

So A) You put your shit on a thread its everyones business dumbass.
B)I was being nice so there was no need to be that defensive with me
C)clearly the painters are in becuase you appear to be suffering serious PMT
D) Get as defensive as you want, cos now you are on the drak side
E)How the fuck am I supposed to know “Chris” is you boyfriend
F)Why would I give a fuck, but he must be some guy to put up with your whiney bitching
J) Fuck you very much and good night.
K)None of this is sexist so don’t even go there, you have just recieved exactly the same treatment any guy would get for your unfounded moans and gripes.

Have a nice day.

On a general note; anyone who submits their stuff before this Sunday is going to hear from us this weekend probably. You can always submit after that but it might take a little longer since I’m quite busy of the next couple of weeks.

Correction : you’ll probably hear from us this week, not weekend. Curry’s out of town so I can’t discuss the submissions with him and he can’t forward me anything but I’ll look through what I got from him tomorrow. Sorry for the ‘false’ info. :)

I’d love to try and enter, but I would be killed. Also, my opinion seems to contradict nearly everyone else’s. I am only good at searching news.

my opinion seems to contradict nearly everyone else’s.

Well.. that’s fun!

Yeah that would be a good thing!
