IGN found out today that Gears of War might be releasing inline with the Microsoft sponsored ‘Gigantour’ which is starting in the middle of September. Gigantour has headliner Megadeth as the stars of the show. Could we be chainsawing enemies’ heads off before October? One can only hope.

According to a an official release by Microsoft today, Gears of War may be hitting store shelves as early as of September 2006. The release centered on Megadeth headlining Gigantour, a Microsoft sponsored metal tour hopping across 25 major market venues from early September to mid-October 2006. While no concrete release date was cited, there were some curious comments by Craig Davison, Director of Global Games Marketing for Xbox.
The sooner the better. If Gears of War is released this early before the holiday season, this would be another huge blow to Sony because word of how amazing this game is will get around, thus making whiney kids beg for an Xbox 360. And what is the “BIG announcement” Mark Rein is preparing for next week at Epic forums?
I personally would kill a man to play Gears of War right now. Just kidding. Maybe.
This will be better than halo 2, because of the gun with chainsaw bainett(spellcheck). Hopefully there will be no cheating like in halo 2. you can never get a game without being cheated i swear

Gears will rule because of the outstanding gameplay, visuals and sound!
How dare you say Halo is for kids, I don’t think just kids buying Halo 2 made it the fastest grossing piece of emntertainment in the history of anything entertainment related (i.e: Movies, DVD’d, Games, books… etc…)
I agree, PS3 showing up aprox. 3 months after GOW is going to hurt it a little. Specially since that Bill Gates quote can’t be no longer satisfied (Halo 3 launch around PS3 launch), GOW is the killer app for the 360 this year and that’s why Microsoft is so on top of Epic on this one.
I am so hoping that the multiplayer/matchmaking on this thing is solid, fun, and relatively lag free; i.e., not a last-minute add-on. My hopes for this are so freakin’ high, and I want tons of replay value outside of the campaign. In true Halo-style, I want to still be feverishly playing this game 12 months from now.
I believe there was a interview with CliffyB where he stated in passing that it would allow groups of friends to go from game to game in multiplayer on live.
This tells me that it will support the Halo2 party system everyone loves. Well I love the Halo2 party system for live.
Me and my friends can go from game to game to game to game and have a ball all night. Very nice.
