Dead Rising “kills” Xbox 360s?
Dead Rising is a game that just will not stop making headlines. It seems however that the game itself and it’s code may be posing dire consequences to Xbox 360 owners across the globe.
The game has apparently been “killing” or to be more accurate, breaking the 360’s of many gamers who have been indulging in the game as of late. Most of these reports are coming from the USA, as this is the only region where the game is officially available so far. Many reports suggest that the blame for the problem would be the game’s intensive usage of more than a single core of the Xbox 360’s triple-core processor, but considering the fact that many games already have been using all 3 cores intensively, most notably Geometry Wars, this all seems highly unlikely. Whatever the reason, people are frustrated at what seems a structural zombification caused by Capcom’s undead killfest.
I predict more 360’s will fry because of Dead Rising. Because, you know, nobody fucks with the undead
We have more on this when the information become clearer, which will only really happen when the game hits more territories and more people boot the full game up. Lets hope this is a case of ‘the squeaky wheel wants the grease’ rather than a real major problem.
Thanks frontieruk for the tip!

the demo runs fine.
hmmm my patch sense is tingling.
man they say this about every game. i remember people saying graw does this also. i think what happens is people have faulty systems, and when a game like dead rising comes along and they get sucked into it and play a long time the system gives out. perhaps they only played 1 or 2 hours at most, then dead rising hooks them and they played like 6 hours straight and it broke their system. thats why when i get new hardware i leave it on for sometimes days while the warranty is in effect so i can find out if my system is bad before its too late.
what i meant to say is i dont think its the game. i think the game got them to play their system long enough to find out its a defect.
yup, that’s exactly what I reckon too.
I hope my xbox doesn’t explode.
I hope otherswise
This is just silly. Almost every new game to the 360 have been accused of “killing 360’s”.
It’s just a coincidence.
yea i doubt this is real for one thing you have no website to support it and another look at the guys name come on is anyone really goin to believe this.
1)Yeah he has you n00b, you not know how to click links?
2)Yeah, I do believe him, but you lost some respect.
Check out the linked story, and also the forum on that site, most of them are referring to a backup of the game … anyone else wonder if maybe this could be the reason for the crashes?
Very theoretically: yes. I highly doubt however any anti-piracy safeguard would do more than just show a screen that says “Please buy the original”
Not because of anti-piracy reasons, but because I though they had to open up their consoles and mess about with the DVD firmware, in order to play backups. Maybe that what screwed their consoles, not Dead Rising or any other game for that matter.
My 360 ran flawless since launch and the day I bought table tennis it froze up 5 times in a row within the first hour of play and died for good. I had well over 300 hours on it before then too. Its probably just a coincidence..but I fear table tennis for life now.
Ha ha ha that is such a funny picture, as to Borked 360’s different games bork different machines, my last 360 could run rock star table tennis for hours, the current one 30mins then it hangs tho, PGR3 will run all day… It’s like xmas getting a new one, you never know which bug it has
my xbox died the other day while playing the table tennis demo. it’s all rockstar’s fault. sue them.
I will say that on my console, as oppsoed to other titles this game, sounds alot rougher while playing in the drive. Most, while while the 360 is noisy anyway, run, but Dead Rising actually makes a load whirring sound, I wonder if I should contact Capcom, before my system breaks, or something, more than likely it won’t but just to be on the safe side. Has anyone else noticed that the disc runs louder than others?
Use a decibel meter to be certain, and stay away from the drugs and alcohol when you listen this time.
scary to hear all the breaking and hanging. The only times my 360 has hung latly (after the big dashboard update), is in the dashboard screens and not during play on a game useing a disc. Arcade games have frozen mutiple times, along with the dashboard screens. I got meself one of them Nyko intercoolers to assist the air flow. The dam thing is starting to make loud noises in the first 10 minutes of it being on. I cannot believe the fans are going out already.
Hey, does anyone know, when you return your 360 to M$ if it MUST have the origonal faceplate in origonal condition?
I am curious just in case my 360 shits the bed, and I have to send it back. I paint my origonal faceplate, attempting to chrome it. I gave up in March and got the cool limited addition one that was available through modchip man.
I had every game freeze on me b4, and then I realized it only happened when I was streaming music…then I did some testing with songs and the 360 doesn’t like some encoders, that shit just goes crazy first textures go out of control then the sound turns to static and then frozen 360(on a stick)…took those songs out of my play list and smooth sailing
I’ve played through it three times now without a stutter. With hours logged of game time Check out the Zombie Genocider achievement took four hours of straight game play to get then I played until the end of the game straight through about 7 hours. I think it’s definately people’s systems are bound for the floor and would have died on any game it just happened that they picked up dead rising and played when the system kicked the bucket
I have dead rising and everything works fine.NOT ONE FREEZE.People need to stop over reacting. If your 360 freezes on a regular basis dont blame it on the game. There is something wrong with the system.
Mine freezes all the time now. No other game does it but Dead Rising. This sucks, they really need a patch.
maybe u should erase ur save file and start over it might help
wow do we need this ‘kills’ thing with every game that is released? Just because someone gets a bd copy doesnt mean it destroys your box. Ive been playin nonstop and havent froze once and havent noticed any problems with my box.
Kinda glad us europeans wont be getting it for a while this be sorted by the time we get it.
I have the 11/05 launch 360 and I have dead rising and not once did it ever lock up with this game. I did have lock ups on the launch need for speed game so I waited a few months and rebought the game when the next shipment came out and now runs fine!!!! I think the lock ups on the 360 are strictly random. I have had the red ring of death three times (two times were with those damn intercooler fans so I took them back and it never happend again) I really dought any one game will kill the hardware.
Doubt. No “gh” just a “b”.
yea all that is true dead rising kills your 360 it did it to mines i got the game on wensday my 360 was fine i neva had nothing wrong whefe it i was playing dead rising fine then out of no where it froze i restart it it and it did it again so i turn my 360 off for 2 hours got back on again and not only did dead rising froze and not work now everygame i try whefe my 360 frezezs that neva happend before i cant play at all anything every game starts fine then freezes so it is true dead fs up your 360 damn capcom always doing bs they betta pay for my system
The only Thing that has happened to me while I was playing is sometimes the machine error pops up saying error reading disc. Usually if I reset im good for the rest of the session. This article concerns me a little bit.
mine has never frozen on Dead rising but every time i try to access my xbox guide during COD2 play it locks up. does this happen to anyone else?
PGR3 did that before that last update they did.
yeh i have that some times its onlyu happened twice
Not to me, But I have heard of guide lock ups. Sigh!
It pushes my 360 more than any game I’m played thus far. The machine is super loud when I play Dead Rising, and I get the Disc Read Error every time I play. In fact, I haven’t been able to play this title for more than an hour without getting the Disc Error freeze.
The only other game that has done this on my system is Oblivion, and that was nowhere near the frequency of Dead Rising….which unfortunately for me is my favortie game to date.
stupid modder
ok i have a question, microsoft claims 360 is the strongest of the next gen systems. so why are we being notified not to play the games for more than 3 hours or so at a time. i dont necessarily think its the games but more rather the system, we didnt get these on regular xbox except on the old pieces of crap. and now 360 is heading the same exact path regular xbox was heading the same time around. they tell us our problems are fixed but most of the times they’re not. chances are, theres going to be more issues along the way. and i feel bad for people who still havent gotten their problems fixed. i myself had my 360 just burnout around the release for this and yes i have dead rising. but is it the game killing it, i dont know. but ive sent my 360 in once already and now they’re saying im over warranty and i should have waited for a patch to play dead rising.
hmmmm i’m seeing atrend here with the “games that break the 360″….seems that it’s mostly the 360 exclusive games “breaking” them…wonder if people are just mad they can’t play dead rising on ps2?
I will be most unimpressed if my 360 breaks when i get my fressh copy of dead rising beginning of next month (especially as this game was one of the main reasons i purchased it). If it does and Microsoft or Capcom dont cough up then I will have to boycott MS’s xbox mines still pretty new and still under warrenty. Also if they try to tell me that i should’ve waited for the patch my argument would end up in court. Also to be fair all the people I have heard of having these problems normally get a fixed system returned to them and one even had a brand spanking new one sent to him as they couldnt fix the original. But hey this is all just hear say to me at the moment and I have had many hours of play. Only had it freeze up on me twice ever once on Fight night round 3 and another time on oblivion. and much like a PC I just restarted and wa la!! problem solved.
