Madden team responds to NFL 07 complaints

Madden NFL 07Madden NFL 07, the next installment in EA’s killer football franchise, may be set for release in the US tomorrow August 22, but rumor on the web is that it will be a buggy product drowning in problems. The Madden team responds that they take it seriously though.

1UP talked to the guys in charge to find out what their take is on the complaints that Operation Sports and Madden Nation filed about the game. First off, the problems aren’t big enough to actually call the product a bugfest or anything, with only 2 problems actually being reported. Operation Sports claimed that Hall of Fame players started appearing on the rosters of other teams, a feature hardcore Madden fans don’t seem to like. It’s intentional though, as David Ortiz, chief of 360 development, explains:

“It’s working the way we intended it to,” said Mr. Ortiz. “Whatever players you unlock, they are the players that will actually be available when you start the franchise mode. If you’ve already unlocked 10 Hall of Famers, they’ll be available for players to sign… It’s there for users to take advantage of.” Mr. Ortiz recognized that this troubled some players, and mentioned that there is a in-game fix available, where players can save off the roster when they’re booting up, and then proceeding to load it once they’re in-game — effectively eliminating the old-timers from the rosters.

The second complaint was from the veterans at Madden Nation, who noticed that all players were superheroes being unable to get fatigued no matter how hard you push them. That’s a valid complaint indeed:

“That’s actually not the case. The UI isn’t registering it… You fatigue at a lower pace than in the past, but it isn’t reflected in the UI. [It’s] Something we’re addressing and fixing right now.” He explained that this fix would be delivered in the way of a patch to the game for 360 users, but didn’t have a specific date as to when it would be available. “Very soon. Around the release date,” he said, adding “We don’t just shove the fix out there. We don’t want to slide [the balance] it too far in one direction.”

So they are getting tired actually, but you just don’t get to see it. Add another game to the chalkboard that’ll be getting a downloadable fix very damn soon after its release… ever heard of that wonderful thing called Quality Assurance folks? Oh wait no, this is EA Sports and actually testing products would probably delay the yearly update cycle too much. Come on, are we supposed to take a sporting game serious that doesn’t tell the gamer when his players are getting tired?

Keep running guy, you won’t get tired!

I’ve noticed another bug, it looks EXACTLY the same as 06. Presumably they’ve put back in a few of the features that they took out of the last one…

I personally wonder if they’ll ever consider a subscription service: “subscribe to [EA Sports Title X] now for 5 years and get our yearly graphics and teams update automatically in the mail on release date!” Pay up front ofcourse, it’d still be EA ;)

Comment by Studley on 2006-08-21 10:08:43 | Reply

Maybe. In the EA way, they’ll probably just wait for someone else to develop the service, then buy them out ;)

The two biggest problems are no superbowl celebrations and no 2 player co-op and there really should at least a 1-4 player on the 360 these are the only 2 things i noticed so far, and the only things holding this game back from being 100%

first, this game looks nothing like last years. the running animations are ten times better because the players dont look like stiff upright runners like last year. second, the superstar mode is awesome and the gameplay is lots better than last year. oh and didnt see any bugs in it either.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 14:18:35 | Reply

Thirdly: It’s not even fucking football!!

Comment by Studley on 2006-08-21 15:23:46 | Reply

This is the superstar mode which was in Madden 06 on other formats, but got dropped from the 360 version because they wanted to squeeze out a bigger profit? And we can challenge plays again, great, we could do that in Madden 95 too.

This is the game which they wanted to convince us was gonna look like this?

I saw a video about the new running animations on the Marketplace, it’s a nice touch but do people really notice these things? What about the real innovations - the sort of thing that the ESPN NFL games were achieving until EA bought out all their licenses? They really should make their catchphrase “EA: Doing The Bare Minimum”

not football??? how

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 15:25:10 | Reply

Because football would imply that it is played for a good part of the game by using your feet.

Football is a game with 11 players a side 10 outfield and 1 goalkeeper. It has a set of goals at either end which the keeper guards and people not in the know sometimes refer to it as “soccer”.

This american abbomination should if anything be called “handball” as the fucking ogres spend most of their time carrying the bloody thing. Or what it could more accuratley be called is rugby for big wimmin. As it is pretty much the same game apart from the fact they are padded from head to toe in stabproof padding and they stop every 30 seconds to get their breath back after running for a short amount of time.

Sorry folks but American sports are shit girly sports.

Actually, statistically the pass play is more popular than the running play, but then I’m guessing (hoping?) that most of this post is tongue-in-cheek anyway…

Soccers is for little boys who don’t have any hand / eye coordnation

Comment by Studley on 2006-08-21 15:43:38 | Reply

Actually, that does explain the existence of David James.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 16:03:56 | Reply

I will agree with you there and not just because I am Scottish, David James is shit.

shut up about soccer….that sport just plain sucks. im sure there not trying to target gamers outside america, like the third world countries that play real “football”, but the ones who know who and what this game is about. i used to hate madden football but when i played this game this weekend im buyin it for sure. asfor the superstar being featured on other consoles last year … the only consoles that matter are next gen “360,ps3″ those other consoles just plain suck and i wasnt talkin about them

shut up about soccer….that sport just plain sucks.

Neither of them suck. They’re totally different (as are rugby and gridiron). Now if we want to talk about girly sports, how about basketball? It’s the same as girl’s netball, but they make the nets a bit higher.

the only consoles that matter are next gen “360,ps3″ those other consoles just plain suck and i wasnt talkin about them

OK, in that case Madden NFL 07 is DEFINITELY the worst next-gen football title released this year. :P

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 15:55:58 | Reply

You forgot to mention that other classic american sport Baseball, only I remember it more fondly as rounders which was played by children. So again girly sport.

And you are correct that football requires very little hand/eye coordination compared to gridiron, this is because it is played by moving the ball with your feet and other parts of your body (not the arms or hands though). This is a far more skillful display than managing to hold a ball in your hands, but then again if you find that difficult I guess it explains the lack of intelligence with a large number of americans.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 15:58:17 | Reply

Or another way of looking at it, Gridiron is basically rugby for fat americans that can’t run for extended periods of time.

Comment by Studley on 2006-08-21 15:59:38 | Reply

Actually I left baseball alone, because it rules, as does ice hockey (and NFL, hence my disappointment that the Madden series is crawling along at a slow pace)

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 16:01:36 | Reply

Is ice hockey not Canadian?

At least you get a scrap now and agin in it. Gridiron player punches another one and they wouldn’t even feel it the amount of padding they have on.

Comment by Studley on 2006-08-21 16:04:36 | Reply

You do realise that the reason for the padding is to stop serious spinal injuries and that sort of thing - BECAUSE it is a huge contact sport - so not sure how you can accuse it of being girly?

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-21 16:08:48 | Reply

Like Rugby or Australian rules? which are done without padding.

So yeah it is a contact sport along with running head on into a giant beanbag being a contact sport.

Comment by Joel on 2006-08-21 20:03:43 | Reply

Glovner before you call baseball a girly sport take a 95 mph fastball in the back and walk to first base without rubbing it.

I will agree Rugby is the shit though. I play for a club team here in the states

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-22 10:35:54 | Reply

Just because you can get by a ball going fast doesn’t promote the sport above the mantle of girly.

Baseball? Pah, it’s rounders and it’s a kids game.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-22 10:51:45 | Reply

Christ you want to get hit by a ball and have it hurt, play a game of cricket, and thats a girly sport too. Probably the most girly in the UK but it still makes our sports make yours look like a Barbie stare out contest.

Girls.

Comment by toyota4x4 on 2006-08-21 15:57:46 | Reply

no the worst would have to be ncaa 07. basketball is a girly sport…you cant even touch somebody in that game, hate it. i just think most people will be surprised at madden this year though i know i was.

Comment by Joel on 2006-08-21 20:02:08 | Reply

There is more contact allowed in Basketball than in Soccer

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-22 10:36:49 | Reply

What choo talking about willis?

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-22 10:52:25 | Reply

Speak sense or don’t speak.

Basketball = non-contact sport = Girly

Comment by Joel on 2006-08-22 16:21:31 | Reply

Dude seriously you can’t be serious. Soccer has a bunch of women over acting any contact to get a call. If you played basketball ever you can get a way with a ton.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-23 11:01:36 | Reply

Ah but you are comparing things to the standard of international football.

Watch a Scottish game or even some English games are there is nowhere near the amount of playacting, far harder game to watch than the like of the World Cup. Which is why a lot of Scottish Teams don’t do well in Europe, the style of game they play is too tough and so they are penalised in a european game for tackles they would get away with in their own country.

Basketball is non contact simple as that, I have watched plenty games in the past and the worst I have seen is someone being pushed over, which the other team got a foul for so in my opinion, Girly.

Comment by Billy on 2006-08-21 17:20:41 | Reply

Seriously, soccer sucks, and is boring.

NFL Football owns soccer in so many ways it’s not even funny. Go back to playing soccer you clown.

Alright, Granted, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the biggest soccer fan around, but let’s not become animals, saying somebody sucks because he/she likes a certain sport you don’t like. Wasn’t this post about… Madden.

Here, I’ll put it back on track. Hopefully, the fatigue “bug” truly is just a UI malfunction. Other than that, I’m looking forward to this game tonight.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-22 10:49:50 | Reply

It’s a half hour game that lasts half a day because it is played by fat girly americans that couldn’t hope to run for 90 minutes non-stop without shoving a Big Mac down their throat.

Soccer a game played by the world (yes even americans) GridIron a game played by girls.

“Sorry folks but American sports are shit girly sports.”

this coming from someone who has to be carried out on a strecther because someone bent his wookie. seriously, i couldn’t even watch the world cup because if someone hurt their beloved pinky finger it was so life threatening that they have to be carried off on a strecther (which was rather humorous, i must admit). what a bunch of pussies… and you’re calling american sports girly? have you had your eyesight checked lately…?

Comment by slug on 2006-08-21 18:11:47 | Reply

ahahaha i was just reading “The_Glovner’s” other posts and in a round about way he’s saying soccer is the most brutal sport ever. hahahaha. and he’s calling out other people’s intelligence? wow, what a giant douche bag.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-08-23 11:03:28 | Reply

No I have a proper sport available to me week in week out lasting a full 90+ minutes with only one break in the middle, instead of having to waste hours of my life waiting for the sportsmen to actually do something.

Comment by footballlover86 on 2006-09-02 15:29:11 | Reply

Oh my god… You are so lame it hurts.. Soccer players (in geniral) are the most unsportsmanlike players of any sport in the world. f.x the World Cup final.. that italian dude was so insulting, that even the Fonz would lose his cool, like that bald frence man did..

I think the golden era of soccer is over.. The 80´ and early 90 were great, with players like Cantona, Baressi, Vialli and so on…

Now it is a popularity contest among coaches and players (Fergison - Venger and so on) (Beckham - C.Ronaldo / Ronaldinho - Ronaldo)

I get cramps every time a player gets carted of the “pitch” becous he got a little nudge from som guy who is 5.6 and 150 pounds.. oh so lame!!!

Go Football (not soccer)

They STILL haven’t fixed it… and it’s Nov 27.

EA should be banned from football games. Forever.
