[GC2006] Football; that’s all you ever talk about…

Sorry to be the one to keep bringing you the news on the latest in football-related gaming, but as pretty much the Xboxic Crew’s only football fan, I feel it’s my sole duty to update you on all the news that has broke today at the Games Convention over in Leipzig regarding FIFA 07 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6. So what do we know now that we didn’t yesterday? Well we have our first glimpses of both games in the form of pictures and movies. However there is bigger news to report as Microsoft have announced that for the next year, the Xbox 360 will be the only place you’ll be able to play either of these titles… Read on for details!

Yes it is true!, and unless Sony resurrect their notoriously dodgy ‘This Is Football/World Tour Soccer’ series, the 360 is the only place you’ll be finding next-gen football for the time being. Despite PES traditionally being in Sony’s pocket, it’s EA agreeing to this in particular that has shocked me, when was the last time EA hadn’t released a sports title on every conceivable format as soon as possible? I think we can safely assume that means Microsoft has been splashing the cash, and splashing it wisely I might add.

Speaking at the Microsoft conference at GC 2006, Chris Lewis stated “Xbox 360 owns football!”

‘Hell yeah!’ says I…

EA’s FIFA 2007
So onwards and upwards for the pictures and movies, the FIFA movie in question has been seen before so whether it’s all 360 footage is yet to be seen, however the nine new screenshots are all 360, albeit not gameplay screens.

In today’s EA press release Hugues Ricour made some pretty big claims specifically regarding the Xbox 360 incarnation:

“The FIFA 07 engine unlocks ultra realistic player motion and delivers complete responsiveness due to its ability to branch animations and the real-time calculation of real human biomechanics. Essentially our software engineers are writing human decision-making code.”

Commence eyebrow raises… NOW!

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 6
There are two movies on offer over at Xboxyde, along with a whole host of screens (some dodgy camera work and some ‘proper’ screens). The first movie shows some passage of gameplay between the Czech Republic vs Italy, and the second is the official trailer for the game. Both equally mouth watering… Check out the player animations on the gameplay video in particular; it’s simply stunning. While the graphics themselves look impressive with crisper, detailed textures, pretty much as you’d expect. Head over to Xboxyde for the full compliment of screens.

An excerpt from Martin Schneider of Konami from todays press release:“Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is one of the most eagerly-awaited games of the year, and we are delighted to be able to come to the Games Convention with so many exciting advances to announce. As we show the first Next Generation version of the game for Xbox 360, we are sure that visitors to the Konami stand will see that the future of the Pro Evolution Soccer series is very bright indeed.”

So as if I wasn’t anticipating either of these games enough, I’m also jealous as hell as our very own Nino and Rival24 are in Leipzig as we speak, and if all goes to plan they should be able to sample these games first-hand at some point tomorrow. So despite my intense jealously and temporary hatred of the pair of them, hopefully we’ll have more on these games then…

According to today’s press releases, FIFA 07 is currently due in September, while PES6 is due the month after in October.

_O_ OMG, PES6 :D I’m gonna check it out right now, this is a big BLOW against PS3 in europe, football just is so big here :D

2006 next-gen football only on xbox 360 ;)

omgsonyhate. :(

No, actually, I think the PS3’s capable of some nice things and I’d like to play some of its games. Honestly. But Sony is just sinking their own ship here. No soccer is even worse.

THIS IS AWESOME NEWS!!!

On the OXM website, it does say “Next-Gen Football”. So, does this mean Fifa 07 and Pro Evo 6 will be on the PS2 and Xbox original as well?

Sorry for the double comment, but if you check out the Official FIFA 07 site, it looks like Xbox 360 isn’t the only platform it’ll be on.

http://www.fifa07.ea.com/home.asp?lang=en and scroll to the bottom.

It’s NEXT-GEN exclusives. There will be current-gen versions.

went to that fifa 07 site, at the bottom the logo for the PS3 is not there. BUT in the poll, the PS3 is included … weird.

Lol look at the fourth screen of fifa07, the guy on the left side! The seventh has got a mosaic crowd background, wtf…
If these screens aren’t ingame than they f*cked up in the cinamatics department. They’re probably just taken from a buggy build. Looking good though, besides the afore mentioned glitches. Can’t wait for some new footy action on my 360!
