No DirectX 10 for Xbox 360
We reported earlier that it was a posssibility that the Xbox 360 could be upgraded to handle DirectX 10 to handle upcoming games such as Crysis. Xbox.boomtown.net reported an interview with ATI that strikes down this rumor.
What’s the importance of DirectX 10? Well, Xboxic explained it this way:
“DirectX 10 is one of the most important components of the whole new Microsoft push for games on Vista and PC games in general. If it could be made to work on the 360, games such as the upcoming Crysis may be far much easier to port than previous imagined.”
This was on Xbox.Boomtown which makes us all frown:
“Xbox360 cannot run DX10,” said an ATI spokesperson. “The Xbox360 has unique features including memory export that can enable DX10-class functionality such as stream-out. From what we’re hearing, Crysis will support DX9 with some sort of use for DX10 features. It’s likely that those DX10 visuals can be replicated on the Xbox360, but it can’t be properly called DX10.”
I’m sort of hopeful that something will be done. We’ll see.

What do you guys think?

hmmmm
I think they will make it work.
ATI lie its true why would you tell some guy that yeah it does. because sony would know there screwed.
Vista and 360 the conectivity if off the chart it will be able 2 see it from this point you don’t put all ya eggs in one basket.
P.s when the hell was ati trueful about something X1900XT thats all i’ll say lol
I’ll point you all in the direction of this article, its old:

I’m pretty sure the 360 supports some of the directx 10 API’s but its definately not capable of having directx 10
It’s likely that those DX10 visuals can be replicated on the Xbox360, but it can’t be properly called DX10.
Fine by me!
Same here, exactly what I was thinking.
It’s not just thinking, that IS the case. DX10 is all but fully supported on the Xbox 360. Microsoft kept DX10 in mind when they created the Xbox 360. There are only very specific and minor things in DX10 that the Xbox 360 cannot run just because it is a console has certain architecture, etc. But for the majority, DX10 is pretty much supported on the Xbox 360.
And the whole cross-platform development on Xbox 360 and PC is taken care of with the XNA initiative.
Do I remember correctly from the Gamesfest Keynote that they said there “DX10 is coming to Xbox 360″? Need to listen to it again - podcast was available on major nelson’s site
This is why I will regret that I sepnt 600$ for an xbox360…. If Crysis is not on 360, i will sell it 20$ on ebay
Go and spend $3000 on a PC to run Crysis properly.. MS will make it work.. but fools like you don’t deserve a 360
I’ll Give you 25 for a “buy it now”
the 360 does not run on any specific DirectX#, but instead its own unique set of tools. the GPU has been designed to be easily compatible with any version of DirectX. Alot of what directX10 brings to the PC is to remove a lot of the “overhead” that plagues much of PC programming which is not an issue on consoles. feature and technology wise the 360 GPU should be able to support all of the DirectX10 upgrades
LOL DX is important but theirs something very very important MS wrote DX and it’s api’s and MS owns the 360 and worked to develop the 360’s gpu with ati….
NO it can’t be called “directx10″ because to be called directx10 it has to support 100% of the “required dx10″ features… it doesn’t However it most likely includes the major ones, as well as some not in the spec… theres nothing to say that the XNA or an upcoming framework/dashboard upgrade won’t include a DX360 or a modified version of directx based on 10 specifically for the 360
I never realy liked ATI as much as NVIDIA
I never really liked cake as much as pie.
I never realy liked NVIDIA as much as ATI
Cube+X360 FTMFW
Darn I guess that game devs will have to stick with DirectX 9, though it seems wierd that the new SDK will not be able to be used directly to develop for the X360, I mean sticking with a previous generation that was upgraded after launch seems crappy. I plan on developing on MDX(thanks XNA!), and I will have to miss out on using DX10 for when my Game dev get serious.
