Lumines to retail for arm + leg, and maybe a kidney later
The story of Lumines’ price is an interesting one indeed. While some of us went into sticker shock at the confirmed $15/1200 MP price, everyone freaked out when we heard of the rumor we’d be paying to play our Madonna puzzles with a friend. Luckily, that rumor is still false, but what we’ve got now is probably worse. Also, it’s not a rumor.
According to an 8.5 review in Official Xbox Magazine, either Microsoft or the game’s creators have slipped in a couple of nasty surprises for little Jimmy and his new Xbox Live Arcade game. Behold in-game messages declaring that, once you pick up speed in the Mission Mode, you’ll need to buy the 400-point Puzzle/Mission Pack. That’s bringing the total to 1600 Microsoft Points, or $20 American, and it doesn’t end there.
In VS CPU mode (not to be confused with multiplayer, which is still free), you’ll get smacked in the face with a sign ordering you to buy the 300-point pack for that mode. That’s 1900 points you’ve spent on the game total, approx. $24. So who’s still going to buy this game?
Thanks LinkinPrime!

If they stick to this they can scrap me off the buyers list for sure.
I’ve been off it since I realized I wasn’t all excited for the game, at least not enough for its fluctuating-yet-always-high price, and especially not with everything else about to hit the Marketplace.
Ah ha… Ha ha ha, hahahahahahahaaaa.
No wait?! You’re serious?
Yeah, especially when the PSP version is 19.99.
Oh wait, that version doesn’t allow you to play online or do any of that extra music in the background stuff. And the graphics on the PSP aren’t quite up to HD quality.
On second thought, yeah $24 is still a great deal for a great game. Now, if it was a lowsy game, or a couple of new shows for GRAW for that price, then yeah it would be a ripoff.
I’m really looking forward to this game. But 800/1200MP total for the whole game is my budget to spend on this game. So if it’s really this expensive it’s a no-go for me.
I don’t know, Lumines is pretty awesome and on one hand I really want it for XBLA with full online modes and everything. As Nerbil pointed out ; it’s good value for your moneys and you can get the ‘core package’ for 800MP which is totally worth it. On the other hand, 1900 is pretty fscking expensive for an XBLA title.
Edit: oh the multiplayer is free and you have to pay for the vs cpu thing and some missions? Well then it’s awesome value for your money, I don’t want those extra missions and vs. cpu stuff in the first place. Consider me sold for the ‘core package’.
Wasn’t gonna get the game anyway, even it was 400 mp. I don’t see why so many people are interested in it, it’s just another version of Tetris. I feel the same way with UNO; I have no idea why so many people care so much. I’ll stick to Halo 3.
dude this game rocks, it sucks that it costs so much but i paid 50$ for it on my PSP
Yeah the only way to get through to Microsoft is just NOT to buy over-priced arcade crap! If it’s more thann 800 points then I will not bother.
haha I love this! the only reason the game devs are doing this is becasue there are people stupid enough out there to buy this “add on content” that SHOULD be free as it is in many PC titles where extra maps are provided with updating the game, this is pure garbage and I for one will certainly not be buying this
It’s expensive but the gameplay/fun is much, MUCH better then 75% of the other 360 games currently available.
Fact.
Chalk me off ths list. No more than 800 it is an arcade download!
Fact, I will not own this game
In my honest opinion, NOTHING on marketplace should ever exceed the cost of a single card, ie 1600 points. For the entire game.
This is kind of disturbing, because people will buy it, but it seems to be just the beginning, you know?
I’m only bothered by the method in which they advertise to a player.
For the love of interactivity, put the additional content in a Downloads menu at the Main Menu screen, don’t pop-up a stupid advertisement.
The Marketplace is getting worse.
They gotta stop this now! 1200 for the whole package or many people won’t buy it. I wonder if they’ve ever heard of price elasticity?
It almost seems like Microsoft wouldn’t let them charge more than 1200 so they cut the game and are charging for the levels taht should be there. Sleezy if you ask me.
MS i think i’ll buy a shovel for 20 bucks and start diggin a hole..
Retail price on amazon for Lumines II for PSP on tiny non HD is 39.99 … so our version even with both downloads is still 16$ cheaper
And their are shops that have it priced even higher close to 49.99…
so why is it that the full game download on XBL being 24$ is a bad thing somehow… this isnt some crappy lowend port its an upgraded version of the psp tht had a crapload of work put into it…
On top of that the core edition will be enough for most casual gamers, but the fact is 24$ is nothing for the entire game considering all that was added and the pricing for a current lumines title on the psp.
