360 is “a sweet development system” says Carmack
id Software’s development deity and parttime NASA employee John Carmack did an interview in the February issue of PC Gamer UK, due out today. He literally calls the Xbox 360 a “sweet development system” according to Xbox 360 Fanboy. There’s more than just praise though in the interview, and he is quoted as saying the following about both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360:
They can quote these incredibly high numbers of giga-flops or tera-flops or whatever, but in reality, when you do a straightforward development process on them, they’re significantly slower than a modern high-end PC.
Guess that is why Quake 4 was running so lousy on X360 and the much more complex Call of Duty 2 ran silky smooth with much more action on screen. Perhaps John should tell his team to straighten out their straightforward development processes and get some next-gen power running.

Yeah, I wasn’t impressed with the Quake 4 visuals either. It felt rushed and gave people the wrong impression of what XB 360 really is capable of. Quake 4 looked more like an Xbox game, while COD 2 really looked next gen.
