Tempest sequel on its way to XBLA

Time for a nostalgia attack again! Jeff Minter, infamous long ago for classics like Revenge of the Mutant Camels, and famous more recently for his wonderful visualizations in the Xbox 360 Media Player, has smoked a few joints too much again and ‘leaked’ on his LiveJournal that he is working on a new Xbox Live Arcade game.

As Jeff the eternal hippie explains, the game is a sequel to Tempest 2000 and 3000, and it all revolves around a Space Giraffe, which has become the possibly permanent but for now temporary working title of the project. Looking at the screenshots, I found it hard to recognize any kind of game in it, but Jeff anticipated that:

It’s actually a lot easier to see what’s going on when things move; this game is almost a worst case for screenshots since a lot of the structures are defined over time (it actually looks clearer on the pic with the plushies and monitor because the shutter speed is low enough that several frames got superimposed). You’ll have to trust me when I say that it is actually quite clear in play to see what’s going on!

Uhuh. We’ll see. Let’s hope mr. Minter hasn’t lost his magic touch yet, since the Tempest games are generally regarded as timeless classics.

Jeff swears (haha) the swearing will be taken out in the final…

Three cheers to TRIGGER M4N for finding this over at Killa’s Xbox Domain.

Horse Smegma, Fluff Fucker and Cunt. Never thought I’d see all them in one screen shot.

If they are not in the final build or available as DLC then I ain’t interested.

yuh wats with the swearing cant see M$ letting the mintster get away with that, but it looks wow and its fantastic that hes on OUR console. I’ve been a JM fan forever, I think only death will stop this man coding. Did’nt know he did the visualizations for the 360. I’m off to check em out.

I think he said the swearing was a joke with him and his friends?

He did, it was an inside joke ;) That’s why I also mentioned under the screenshot it will be removed in the final :)

put some music on…leave the visuals running and they just slowly start to get awesome…just skipping through to find one that looks nice is missing the point.

It a journey dude….. ;o)

I’m sure I read in Edge or with an interview with The Llamagod that he did not want to do yet another Tempest clone….

The sell out!

(I still love him though)

Hey, if you had the chance to sell out anything for money, you would do it.
