Autumn dashboard update preview

MAXCONSOLE got some shots of the new dashboard update that’s hitting live in November sometime. The ‘Launchpad’ is implemented into the dash for homebrew games that are created with XNA from private developers. It has a number of other different features which aren’t all known yet.

Ladies and gentleman, we’re delighted to present to you the worlds first screens to public knowledge of the Xbox 360 Autumn (Fall) dashboard update. The new update offers some truly brand unique features, you will see the XNA launch pad (to run homebrew games freely made with the free XNA studio express for amateur developers), the white Xbox Live arcade image logo loading screen which replaces the traditional logo and a few more cool things.

Might we also get the ability to stream video without having a Media Center PC? One can only hope.

Do you guys like it? What other things do you guys think the dashboard needs?

Man, it looks awesome just by those 3 screens. I definately like the redesigned Marketplace page and the “Last Played Game” part.

I can’t wait to see the hundreds of changes that this update does to the 360.

Man, this will be good.

Look out PS3 is exactly right!

its its its beautiflu.

Can the source be trusted? This looks like it could be a good ’shop to me. The pictures used in the background of the images seem vaguely familiar to me. I am certain I’ve seen more than a few of them used either on xbox.com or from press releases/slideshows from conventions.

I may just be a little cynical, but am I the only one who thinks it may be just a little suspect?

small thing, but i’d like to be able to see my active downloads by having it on the guide (i.e. press the button, boom, you see what’s currently downloading or your que) as opposed to going to the Live menu, then another sub-menu.

There’s a girl on the button that I click to get to my arcade games? Seriously? Ftfw then. I’m always going in and out of those arcade games, she just invites me in.

I’d like that gift card now so I can buy a new 360.

I would like the dashboard to be more snappy and responsive, especially when booting up or back to dashboard. Another thing that would be great is that when you pick a song to play if it would play the song that comes after it instead of playing the same song over and over, they could put a “repeat single song” option in with the random button like itunes has, and last but most important would be the ability to stream xvid/divx. I have so many videos of myself and family jetskiing and playing hockey I have reencoded to xvid for size. It would be great to stream these from my computer.

I doubt they’d do that, as they have their own codecs(which are better, might i add). If you want to watch them on your 360, I suggest using the VC1 codec.

g man: That functionality already exists. It may be that you only have one track in the playlist, if you have several tracks in the playlist it will automatically go to the next track. Try opening a directory of music with (Y), that will add all tracks to the playlist.

(sorry, couldn’t help myself :-P)

Jokes aside mate, perhaps you should go to the source? Here’s info on XNA: http://msdn.microsoft.com/directx/XNA/default.aspx

And posting the same suggestion 30 minutes later? hmm…

i hope they implement some of our requests from the other blog… i mean things like dvdupscaling and an IE for 360 is really a must considering the wii and ps3 are getting opera browsers supposedly…

and the dvdupscalling would be WICKED

Comment by Sean on 2006-09-08 23:31:50 | Reply

1 - Opera sucks
2 - We don’t want Xbox-360 virus’s (which would happen if there were to be an IE for it).

Firefox 360. The world would just explode.

How about fix what the last update broke? Thanks.

ya a redesign is nice but they need to add things to make it worthwhile. I dont really think these are true photos. This looks photoshopped to a point. Either way its nothing i’ll be looking forward to.

How about Microsoft finally fix the dashboard crashing when loading/using it in-game.

Comment by InsaneBastard on 2006-09-09 00:14:34 | Reply

Not impressed. Sure, it looks nice, but if new pictures for the blades are the BIIIG update, I’ll not be happy. I want more than that.

Speed it up, it’s like using a 486 running windows 95 beta.

Comment by acromyth on 2006-09-09 14:24:04 | Reply

Yea, I suggest making is spedier as well. Also, an internet browser would be pimp, becasue the PS3 and Wii will both have it… shit the PSP and DS have it.

i want it to load the arcade games much faster. i have all 28 of em(at this point) and it takes forever to load. the gamerpics are worse tho.

Comment by mutigen on 2006-09-10 23:09:39 | Reply

wow,

they are including a free game design studio, and the ability to at least a limited number of homebrew capabilities? that is absolutely beautiful. i can’t wait to see what such a diverse and brilliant group of miscreants can come up with. more power to the people.

oh and g man,
there are several divx streamers available for the 360. they will put a hurtin on your pc’s cpu, and they don’t rewind or fast forward yet (unless i missed an update recently), but the one i have been using (VLC360) works great, and is available at xbox-scene. i have 1400 gigs of movies and tv in divx, and i usually use my modded xbox to stream off my network, but only my 360 is hooked up to my projector, so it is really nice to have the option. and it looks great. anyway, you need xp mce on your pc, but other than that, the installs are easy, and i have been very pleased with the performance. hope this helps…
