Dead Rising patch remains dead
Dead Rising has finally been released in most parts of the world, and everybody seems pretty happy with it bar for that dastardly ‘one save only’ problem. People stuck with the older Standard Definition TV sets however, have been having a very hard time reading the text in the game which is unreadable at lower resolutions. People have asked Capcom for a patch to fix this, but they have answered with a resounding no.
This is a big shame for those who have not got the money to upgrade to HD just yet, and shows a fearsome trend. If Capcom cannot be bothered to fix a game breaking problem for people with lower resolution screens, will other companies follow this idea and not bother to try and make games work well on older displays? Capcom have said a patch would take too much effort to do but thousands of low resolution gamers are bound to be annoyed by this move, which many will see as unfair. People will naturally have to upgrade their equipment with time to meet the demands of newer titles but this is a fault Capcom could have addressed in the testing stages of the game quite easily.
Hopefully people will complain to Capcom and they might change their minds, but otherwise it looks like if you have a normal TV you are going to get less than standard support from Xbox 360 developers.

I think they make a good point, in so far as the patch would be too big to do. Then people without Live would moan as well, so fair enough, just leave it. At least they gave an answer as well.
Really people should buy the HD tv before they got the xbox 360
well many of us cant just go out and shell out 1000-2000$ on a new HDTV u know
Maybe you could afford something less than $500 then?
yeah, a PC monitor maybe but too many good games coming out lol
Yeah you can buy a pretty decent 32 inch flat crt hdtv at walmart for about $500.00 You don’t have to buy an lcd or plasma to enjoy HDTV!
Thats like less than £300, but our HDTV’s start at like £400 over here in the Uk. Our prices suck!
ESRB Notice: Gameplay may change during SDTV play.
Why don’t people just buy PC monitors and the VGA cable? You can get HDTV quality at under £150 for a 19″ TFT. I’m running on a Dell 20″, and wouldn’t even bother with an HDTV.
yeah really. if people use thier computers to bitch about the game, i dont see why they get the VGA cable… hell you can use your computers speakers too
Wow! I have had probs on my SDTV for a while on my 360! Its clearly not hard to just make an option for the text to be a bit larger. Can the game makers please wake up that not all of us have HDTV! I love the 360 but im getting sick of not being able to read text on it.
Like I said you can buy a 27 to 32 inch crt hdtv for about the cost of the xbox360
Me, my good eyes and my SDTV simply don’t understand the problem: Dead Rising is perfectly playable and readable here. The true description of the problem should be “people with age-old rabbiteared SDTVs who are too cheap to pay for some decent glasses or lenses are having troubles reading the text in Dead Rising”.
Yes, I agree all games should be usable on SDTVs. That doesn’t include every 15 year old near-dead wreck of a telly though.
my tv is 19 yrs old…but its in good condition, and the only D.R. text prob is its a little blurry. i can still read it if i look really really close lol
“Due to the amount of text and the size of the patch necessary to change the text, a patch isn’t possible for this issue,”
BULLSHIT. I compressed a 500 MEG text file down to 7 megs.
Nice job, comparing a text file to a whole lot of changed game code.
yeah lol. Its not just game text content. A whole load of game code needs to be placed to locate where and when the text is to appear, as well as automatically knowing if the console is in HD mode or not.
i just got a 20″ lcd pc monitor from costco for $300 and it is very nice. can go past 720p with max res of 1680×1050 and 360 can output like 1300×800 or something like that. very crisp. lifetime warranty from costco too!
My problem was which HDTV to buy and if I did my wife would want to watch Oprah on it, they I would have to upgrade the TiVo etc. Where does it end? I ended up with a BNC adapter for my 360 VGA cable and an old junked Samsung SyncMaster 1000s for like less than $30 for the cables. Sharp as a tack and my BC games look great too.
Only 13 of the 20 gig useable, overheating issues, lack of any real good games and now game developers dont give a damn about normal people, i bet there are more people with normal TV’s than HDTV’s.
Microsofts xbox was doing so well untill they released the 360. Maybe Sony might have a real chance….
Are you baiting for trolls or an authentic idiot?
Another twat.
One lie after another, looks like a george forman grilling machine, no rumble in the pads, delayed by 5 months in europe, losing exclusive developers at a rate of knots, and who knows may suffer from exactly the same issues with the HD/SD debate for 360.
Sony’s PS2 was doing so well because it was launched so long ago and has idiots blinded by the badge, shame they became a sham of a company.
On the PS2 not the fucking PS3 and since the hype engine began anyone with an ounce of common sense should be able to spot the PS3 for the white elephant it has become.
Doesn’t matter how you want to argue it Sony have fucked it up for themselves and where I am not ruling them out of the race they have a far bigger mountain to climb than the fanboy group seem to think.
I am not a fanboy for either Sony or MS, I’m just realistic.
It may not have been such an issue if these games were on cheap hardware, the other issue is the price.
$600 however you look at it is a huge price for a console, ah but it isn’t a console, it’s a blu-ray player next-gen wi-fi connected lean mean grilling machine genome mapping super computer. Which is great, but wrong i’m sorry, its a console with flashy bits. PS1 was a console, PS2 was a console and PS3 will first and foremost be a console. So after your hardcore gamers, which of, a lot of european ones may start to consider the 360, you have the spoilt kids having them bought by the parents. Now these parents rich or not will scoff at paying that price tag for a console simply because to them, as consumers, see it as a PS2 plus one number and cannot connect this in their minds with the huge price hike that comes between models.
These are the consumers that can make or break the product because these are the ones that can be swayed between the consoles. So their whining little brat screams for a PS3 because it has MGS, Devil May Cry etc. the parent (i.e the one actually paying the money and making the purchase) will in a lot of cases say fuck off you can have a 360 its a console as well does the same thing and look you can get GTA on that at the same time, and they have Halo and GoW.
That is why the choice factor that MS has marketed the 360 is so clever, because they are not pushing people away purely by giving them a choice on what features they would like to have.
So basically Sony’s arrogance may well be their downfall.
get the new samsung slim fit HD Telly it does 1080i and its tube it cost a amazing £400 quid and it 32inch
HD Tube? Since when.
Are you kidding me! Since about 7 years now!
They’re only *just* starting to come out in the UK now.
I agree I have seen this TV and it has a great picture!!!
not a had a single problem reading any text on DR must be people with sh1t tvs….. oh yuh mines sh1t hmmmm I wonder what y’all bitching for?
I’m on the side of the gamer! I was lucky enough to be able to afford an HDTV for mine, had no choice seeing as my Standard TV went bang the day after a bought the 360, but we can’t all afford it, although they’re getting cheaper. For the developer not to even consider these people is outrageous. Come on Capcom stort it out.
What is purpose of buying a next gen system made for HDTV and plug it in to a standard TV. I don’t think there is anything wrong with what capcom did. If you can afford $400.00 for the 360 then you can afford $400.00 for an HDTV. Do some research on crt hdtv’s in the 27 to 32 inch size!!!
