Scramble released

Another Konami Arcade classic has just been released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. This week’s title is Scramble, a horizontal scrolling shoot ‘em up from 1981. It’s only 23.50MB and you can get the full version for 400MP. It’s featuring the same interface as the rest of the Konami classics and the graphics have been polished as well.

Scramble your fighter and take on the enemy base in this newly enhanced version of the arcade classic. The base is heavily guarded and you must guide your ship through five levels of enemy defenses before you can destroy your objective.

Featuring brand-new graphics and sounds for Xbox 360™, take your skills online and challenge the new “Versus” and “Co-op” modes. List your high score on the Xbox Live® leaderboards and prove you’re the best in the world!

  • Enhanced artwork: Hand-painted models, particles systems for explosions, and smoke and cosmic new parallax scrolling backgrounds make for a visual feast.
  • Upgraded sound: Listen to digitally enhanced sound effects and tunes.
  • Multiple levels: Play through six levels of ever-increasing challenge and excitement.
  • Multiplayer modes: Try the new Xbox Live split-screen multiplayer modes, including Versus Mode and Co-op Mode.
  • Achievements: Score a series of achievements which range from straightforward to challenging.
  • Leaderboards: Online scoreboards capture a range of statistics including highest score (single-player and co-op) and win/loss ratio in Versus Mode. Leaderboards are displayed for all time as well as weekly.

Man, I thought it was the worst XBLA game ever. I played it for like 2 minutes. Is there something I’m missing?

I don’t think it’s that bad actually…

I hate timed demos. It wont let me do nothing except fly to the end of a map, then get harassed with “Buy now” screens. Can i at least have the 5 minutes needed to scratch my balls and enjoy enough of the game so i’ll actually want more??!

The history of gaming is rich with absolutely brilliant games. A veritable cornucopia of brilliant product is just sitting there, from arcade titles to home computer to defunct console IP, waiting to be plundered by the more astute minds at XBLA HQ.
And they give us Scramble. Not even a new version of it. It was crap back then. It looks and plays even crappier now. Nostalgia can do only so much for a game. I can already play it on Mame. I can download better versions from various freeware sites. Wtf is the point of this release?

They improved the graphics quite a bit.

Its not that its crap but that they charge you to much points for old games that are classics but mostly only best for very short blasts and already duplicated on PC or last gen consoles. It`s a money scam over quality.

The way I see it the 400 points charged for these games purchases the online leaderboards and achievements.

Oh man. I can tell I’m going to have fun with the comments on my review ;)
