First Burnout 5 scans

Even though Xboxygen got these scans from a Playstation magazine it should still give you an impression about Burnout 5 on the Xbox 360. Besides the pictures you can also read about a whole lot of new stuff they introduced in this game. Some of this information was already revealed in the announcement of the game. An interview with Alex Ward, Creative Director of Criterion games contributed some more information.

Keep in mind that a lot of stuff is still work in progress and that both the pictures and the information in the article itself can change dramatically. You should also remember that some stuff won’t be available in the Xbox 360 version, because it doesn’t have a tilt function for example. Fortunately for us there’s still a lot of cool new stuff that will make you crash even better. A nice new feature for example is the ‘Crash AI’ which analyses the crash situation and then determines which crash sounds to play. That means that a crash always sounds different.

The new physics also improved quite a bit. On the PS2 (read Xbox) the car being driven might have been operation according to the laws of physics, but the other cars flying off to the side were simply running scripted responses. Not that you really noticed this while driving over 200MPH but this meant that they were all behaving the same way. With the nextgen consoles this won’t be much of a problem anymore, they have so much power that the developers don’t ever have to walk the line on what’s running physics and what’s not, it all is.

The game is supposed to come out somewhere in 2007 on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Who plays these games?

I do.

Yeah I guess no one plays the Burnout series of games (sarcasm)

NPD sales data for Burnout Revenge isn’t yet available, but all signs seem to indicate another big hit for EA. GameFly rental data for the latter half of September put the PS2 and Xbox SKUs in the overall #1 and #2 spots, with the PSP “remix” title Burnout Legends heading up PSP rentals.

EB Games’ weekly sales charts have also had Revenge outperforming the competition. Since its release three weeks ago it has remained consistent at the top, currently sitting at #2 and #3, which seems to foreshadow typically strong results from NPD.

Revenge has been met with equal enthusiasm across the Atlantic. The game debuted at #1 on Chart Track, dropping only one position in its second week of availability. All indications seem to point to Revenge having long American and European legs. Coupled with the PSP success of Legends and the DS Legends iteration coming later this month, it seems as though gamers simply don’t get burnt out with Burnout.

I played Burnout 3 and Revenge a hell of a lot. No way in hell I’m buying that stupid port-em-up for 360.

The Burnout series is the only series that I will buy from EA. I’ve been playing Burnout: Revenge for the past 2 weeks and have almost completed it, a really good game if you ask me.
