Bethesda deny Oblivion PC-only expansion pack rumour
Gamestop seem to be up to their usual trick of getting the whole Xbox world stirred for no reason again, this time in the form of an Expansion Pack for Oblivion, set for release only on the PC. Fortunately, it turns out it is all false, for now.
Gamespot (not to be confused with Gamestop) noticed the listing on Tuesday, and quickly fired off an email to Bethesda for some confirmation. The page then got pulled (hmmm), but not before Gamespot had snapped a picture of the page, as seen below.
Gamestop’s listing for the expansion. As you can see, it was due for release on the 21st of November for the reasonable price of $19.99. Bethesda had this to say on the matter:
There’s no expansion in development called Knights of the White Stallion. That’s the name of a quest in Oblivion.
Right now we have no announced plans for any new content, add-ons, or expansions. If that changes, we’ll let folks know.
So this announcement quashes the rumours, but it also reveals that those still enjoying Oblivion won’t be getting any more add-ons for it via the Marketplace for a while, which is a shame. But Bethesda have released expansion packs before, for Morrowind. They released two seperate packs for the PC. For the Xbox version of Morrowind, they combined both expansion packs with the full game, making a package acceptable enough to be released for the Xbox.
This isn’t the first time Gamestop have accidently put up a page with no backing either. The most recent of which was when they (or EBgames, as they are owned by the same company) started accepting pre-orders for a 360 HDMI cable. However, they aren’t always wrong. If you cast your minds back a few months, you may remember Gamestop kept leaking release date sheets. Just having a quick glance at some of the titles, they really wern’t that far off, so don’t rule out this expansion pack just yet.
To me, there is never smoke without fire. I think Bethesda will release an Expansion Pack for the PC, then release it on the Marketplace for those with the 360 version, at probably a more expensive price.
Thanks to CleanSweep for the submit!

they should release a 1200 one like GRAW chapt. 2
Well 1200 MS points is less than $19.99, so it will be, I think, in the region of 1700 MS points, maybe more
…they could always just release it at retail…
They could, but they could get more money out of it from the Marketplace.
Of course, after a year, they will bundle it with Oblivion and offer it to the consumers that way
they should make more M$ points on cards like a 3000 point one
unlimited points for $20 would be nice
Yeah… Cos that’s gonna happen
