History Channel Civil War announced
That’s right. The History Channel has decided to jump on the computer game bandwagon and create a War game. But before you click back, it’s not the War we are now all so well accustomed too. And yes, that is the actual title of the game.
The war in question is the American Civil War. Already this makes a nice change from the usual World War II games, because we might all learn something different. Of course, it shares a few things with COD2, like just how great the Americans were during every single battle ever realistic weaponry that stays true to the time period, and some hopefully great cinematic sequences. However, this is no ordinary FPS. It follows in the footsteps of Brothers in Arms, whereby it plays as an FPS, but has a lot of strategic elements involved within. You can now re-live some of the most famous battles and attempt to be the Commander-in-Chief, and see how you would have done had you been alive back then.
· Intense Hand-to-Hand Fighting – Experience the intense chaos of the Civil War including close quarters and melee fighting using bayonets, sabers, the butt of your gun and even your fists in the midst of raging battles.
This will be an interesting feature, something that COD3 showed signs of. I would imagine that ammo will be short in the game as a reflection to what actually happened, so this might come as a last resort. Of course, that might also depend on what side you choose to fight for, since for the wealthy Union, this may not be applicable. But as the Federal, you might be going at it with a pitchfork!
Immerse yourself in the intensity, carnage, and chaos of the war that divided a nation! Experience history brought to life in the first ever first-person action game based on the Civil War. Play as a Confederate or Union soldier in America’s most historic battles including Gettysburg, Bull Run and Antietam. Use authentic firearms, fight in intense hand-to-hand combat, place explosives, sabotage enemy artillery, destroy buildings, and more!
It will be nice to see the War from both angles, and if anyone can give two equal, reliable accounts, the History Channel can!
One concern I have though is the information page at the bottom of the Xboxyde article. Clicking it leads to information about the game. It states there is no Live play to feature. I hope this is simply just a case of lack of information, because it would be a real waste of a potentially good game to not be able to fight it out with some mates. But you shouldn’t worry, because if you continue reading the list, it also states no Widescreen. No game for the 360 has been released without Widescreen support since they are all HD games, so hopefully it is a case of not updating the page.
There are also four images of the game to get you all excited as well, as can be seen below. The game is set for release on the 14th November stateside for the 360, or, if you have a new-found love for a PS2, you can get a hold of it on there too. There is no word yet for a European release, probably because it is a War that doesn’t involve the World; only the superb-at-combat Americans.

wow… talk about crap.
reloading would take forever.
“your black power got wet”
hahahahahahaha
Hey. It’s not our fault that we were the Deus ex Machina in both World Wars. But the Civil War, yeah, we didn’t do so great there, because it was us versus us. But by 1900 we had our act together
I’m a bit of a history buff anyway. Glad to see something other than WWII on its way!
ya, a change is nice but those wars werent guerilla types, it was more like skirmishing in the civil war so how are they gonna incorperate that into the game, is ur character gonna be able to take 15 shots or just one or two, thats what i want to know
I just want to know if you can knock someone’s head/leg/arm/ off with a cannon ball.
screens looks verry cartoony
I wonder if its going to region encoded cause it sounds like it could be a great game. (btw im from the UK)
The graphics don’t look too great… and I’m wondering about reloading too… you might have to do a lot of skirmish battel indeed.
Just a note. Those screenshots look awefully wide-screenie for a non-wide-screen game.
ummmm..its on 360, all 360 games are widescreen
Doug, the Amerians were not at all the major contributers in the world wars. WWI they did barely anything. The Canadians and British were the ones who took back most land. The Americans ran away from the Mustard Gas as it swept toward their trenches, however, the Canadians (this is true) urinated on rags and put them over their mouths and continued to fight. I have no idea how they figured out that it would filter it, but they did, and continued, showing bravery.
Thats not what American developers would have you believe though!
We didnt do much because all the Germans got scared and ran off when we came in WW1, and in WW2 we were the backbone of the fighting force in Europe and the Pacific.
Yeah, I never said we were the only major contributors. It was said jokingly in response to Rossko’s quip, but I do think my country was pretty awesome in both WWs.
And the Canadians did that? Wow, amazing.
Yeah I was only messing. Don’t take it too seriously guys, just a joke
In europa it were mainly the sovjets who archieved the victory.
I somehow have a feeling pissing on rags won’t feature in this game.
I wonder of you’ll be able to die of disease, starvation and infection from wounds. That is how most of the people died in that war.
YOU HAVE DIED OF DYSTENTARY - ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED.
