EA to axe 19 leagues for “exclusive” 360 version of FIFA 07
In what is, quite frankly, one of the worst moves EA could ever have thought of, they have decided to remove 19 leagues for the 360 version of FIFA 07, yet include the full 25 for the Xbox and PS2 versions. Even the DS gets 22 leagues.
This news comes after EA stuffed up with a patch for LotR:BFME II. After all the clapping, thumbs up and “wow, what a great scoop” that Microsoft received for making football games exclusive on the next gen for the next year (meaning no other next gen console would have football on), this has got to be something they hadn’t seen coming. Why the most powerful home console machine in the world can’t run 25 leagues, or even 22, when the other three can is quite simply beyond me. I understand that graphics take up a sizeable amount of room, but when you have approximately 8GB of space to work with, I find this news staggering.
He knows it, we know it, so why don’t EA know they have really messed up this time?
But wait, my football friends, put down your knives and get out your swords, because there is more. The PS2 and Xbox versions receive 47 stadiums, whereas the 360 gets 21. Again, why oh why can they not include the same amount as the PS2 and Xbox versions. I wouldn’t mind if the PS2 and Xbox versions had less than 21. But no, good old EA, they really went to town with this one.
So, where the hell are these other stadiums? Well, I am guessing, but I wonder if they decide to release it as DLC, making you pay for what the current-gen versions already have? I personally wouldn’t put this past them, and is the only reason I can think of as to why they haven’t been included in the first place.
Now some of you have read the list and are saying “theres 7 leagues, idiot”. Well, technically your right. However, that seventh league includes one team. The league is Serie B, the team is Juventus. So they will play against no-one for the first season then get promoted? Absolutely absurd. The reason for this is presumably EA had already paid Juventus before the scandal (which saw Juventus relegated to Serie B and start the season with a 15 point deficit after it was found that the Juventus chairman had been bribing referees), and so have to include them. Once again, the PS2, Xbox and DS all get full Serie B. Hence why I didn’t include this “league” in my calculations.
A major blow to the support of football on the 360
Thank goodness for Pro Evo is all I can say. It seems EA just don’t care about us 360 football fans, and assume we will buy any crap they throw at us, finished or not. I urge all of you simply not to buy it (even you Verbalkint27!), because only then will EA take any note of their customers.
Unfortunately I could not find an email address on the site, because I would love to have a chat with the idiot that thought of this. Don’t fear though, I will continue to look and if I find anything, I will be sure to let you all know.
No ‘eredivisie’ sure is going to help sales in the Netherlands.

hey anyone reading this should just not buy the 360 version to make a point, if you own another console it seems more beneficial to get a DS one. Its the same as Tigerwoods 06, the xbox360 version had the least courses and absolute crap throughout. They just as well bring back ‘James Pond’
EA have basically handed Pro Evo the title for best football game for the 07 season. Doubtless they’ll still sell plenty of copies but the EA sports franchise in for football is being slaughtered for the 360.
First we had RTWC, which was way to short, then a few months later the release the second half of the game when you can eventually play in the world cup. Now when they finally have a chance to get their status back for making a decent football game they mess it up again.
EA get your act in order and give us a decent next gen version of FIFA

EA really humped the bunk here. Cheap ass bastards. They just want to save money and production time in using old models from World Cup so they just include the popular teams and scrape the rest. Lazy moneygrabbers! I’ve been a long time fan of the FIFA series so this is a real dissapointment. Maybe I’ll just buy the Xbox version, hope it’s backwards compatible…
Most likely will the removed divisions be available as a download on the marketplace. Of course you will have to pay for it. So EA has started what we all feared: selling half a game and the other half as a paid download.

dont worry i have asked why so many leagues have been cut from the game and im waiting for a response.
To be honest it maybe because they see it as a mediocre league and the time and money it would cost to by the league rights just isnt worth it in the long run.
I dont know but am trying to find out more so will post as soon as i find out.

Looking at the list, it seems almost ludicrous that some of these leagues are missing. NO Scottish leagues at all. EA have really dropped the ball here, and if they are using it to make more money by selling the extra leagues on the marketplace then this is truly a very poor marketing move and will lose them fans. So much for hte exclusive xbox 360 has next gen sewn up this year

If you stopped and thought for just a moment, maybe you’d realise that building anything on 360 or PS3 is a lot more time consuming and thus expensive. So if you want next-gen quality you have to accept less quantity for now. Or be prepared to pay more.

EA is screwing over their fans by being too cheap to create proper assets for the stuff they already have in their last-gen games. If I was a soccer fan I wouldn’t put up with this…

Yeah but PES had gameplay. So many people buy FIFA for all the official stuff, because “it looks better”. PES will surely have way more now as well.
Also PES never pretended to be the daddy of official football games with all the official leagues and players, unlike EA “unless you happen to spend money on the best console out on the market because we can’t be bothered to make the game from the ground up and would far rather just port it over with enhanced graphics but missing half the gameplay” Sports.
I look forward to PES. I have 2006 World Cup for 360 (the second one), and I like it. Hopefully, PES will make like it more.

You do all know Fifa 07 on the Xbox 360 is a completely different game to the PS2/Xbox/PC/GC version which is just an evolution of the Fifa 06 engine? The reason for less teams is because the game is completely different, and they have had to start from scratch. They’ve put the main leagues in (as a Huddersfield Town fan I’m gutted League One isn’t in) but as a game, Fifa 07 will play better on the 360 than it will on any other format, and as for Pro Evo 6, so you bitch when someone makes a next gen football game but has to take some features from past gen out, but have no problem handling over tha same amount for a PS2 game that has had a very cheap port across then had the online play butchered? You do know the PS2 Pro Evo 6 supports more players online than the Xbox 360 ver right? Get over yourselves.

seriously people, ea have had to build this new fifa from the ground up with minimal code reuse. This is quite a feat and I for one would rather sacrifice a fair amount of smaller leagues in order to provide the improvment in gameplay that fifa so badly needs (in comparison to pro evo). And Rossko, the lack of teams & stadiums is not a reflection of the power of the 360 but of the time constraints of building entirely new HD models for each kit and stadium.

I think it’s funny that anyone would try to spin this into anything other than EA being lazy yet again. Disc space concerns? Please. It’s just another instance of EA not getting the job done, and releasing the game anyway.
The PS3 will get the same half-assed job from EA, don’t worry. Until the ‘next-gen’ becomes the primary development platform, we’ll keep seeing EA games that have more courses/players/teams/features on the last-gen hardware. It saves them development time on the next-gen, they can bill the added stuff in the subsequent versions as “new” content, and the extra stuff gives last-gen versions a reason to be bought.
It’s lame, but it’s EA - get used to it.

The 360 may have next-gen exclusive on FIFA 07 and PES 6 but wording can be deliberate. There can be a FIFA PS3 or PES PS3 without breaking the exclusive deals you know.
Oh and Seabass from Konami stated that he wasnt happy with M$ for saying that PES 6 is a 360 exclusive because it isnt quite, he indicated a PS3 game is not far behind but we’ll see.
