XBLA to get Doom, SWOS and more
As the X06 event in Barcelona commences the first tidbits of news are being released as well. And it’s not the smallest of news too, since we learn that the mystery XBLA franchise is not Lode Runner after all, but id Software’s all-time classic shooter Doom, which will be released for 800MP. Several other XBLA titles were announced and priced too.
On the Doom front, all seems glorious: not only will the resolution be upped several times and the sound be in 5.1 Dolby Surround, but it will also include 4 player co-op and on- and offline deathmatch support. A release date was not explicitly mentioned, but dropped hints would suggest it could be out today already.
Full list of Arcade games for which the price is known are:
- Lumines Live! – 1200 Microsoft Points
- Contra – 400 Microsoft Points
- Doom – 800 Microsoft Points
- Street Race NYC – 800 Microsoft Points
- Gyruss – 400 Points
This reconfirms that Lumines Live is indeed an XBLA title after all, despite persistent rumors that it would become a full retail title. Do keep in mind that it has some hidden costs though.
Also mentioned was that our July information on Sensible World of Soccer making XBLA would actually be correct. In this case no price or release date were mentioned at all.

Didnt they put Doom in Doom 3 on the Xbox for free? Unless this version has GOOD live play, (i know it has some) count me out as I have finished that game before. Where’s Quake I and Quake II eh?
Quake 2 actually came with Quake 4, with its own set of achievements too
Which when totalled, came to 0.

You know I was trying to hold off on getting a points card, but so much for that idea with Gyruss, DOOM, and Contra coming out.
Oh well, a good $20 to spend.
The Sonic demo sounds like fun. It sounds like “the trial” versions the Dreamcast games had. My co-worker is happy because her kid will play Sonic no questions asked.
Banjo is back? Rare might be turning the corner…
The only thing I would love to see IMO would be a new BC update (I know, we had one in Aug, but I would like to see more XBox 1 titles supported).
Last but not least, Sensible World Of Soccer. All the Amiga guys are feeling warm and fuzzy right now. Before all the other games, there was SWOS. I+T (inside joke) let me play the first one back on C64 way back when, and the Amiga one is still cherished by many.

Why would I want to play games that were great then but are boring crap now on my 360? Why would I want to pay AGAIN to play them on my 360? What I would really like to see is more stuff like Cloning Clyde!
