X06: Alan Wake video and screens

Over at Xboxyde they have released some new screens and a video of Alan Wake. The video was shown at a conference that took place last night.

(Unfortunately, at the time of writing, I couldn’t get the video to work, but fortunately I found some images, so I can post about that, and just keep trying the video.)

The screens look very interesting, and there are a couple that show in game footage. Once again, the graphics look excellent. It is beginning to seem that developers are starting to use the 360’s power to more effect.

I’ve done my best to sum up the game for those that don’t know below.

Set in the deceptively idyllic town of Bright Falls, Wash., Alan Wake immerses players in an intense and expansive cinematic world that enables players to roam freely in hyper-realistic, dynamic and interactive environments. Alan Wake is mission-based with a deeply engaging and suspenseful story line unveiling new twists and profound character revelations at every turn. Players will unravel the riveting plot through multilayered character interactions, unique problem-solving and intense combat against terrifying enemies. In this nightmarish world, Alan Wake must use a variety of weapons to survive, including his most powerful ally against the creatures of darkness light itself.

It sounds quite similar to Condemned, with the way the story slowly revealed itself and the excellent combat system. It also made you wet at least two pairs of pants, since it was an incredibly scary game in 5.1 sound. Alan Wake goes under the title of “psychological thriller”, so the links are similar there. All in all, I think this could be an excellent game. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Once again, this is, for now, exclusive to the 360 and Windows Vista, with a release date “TBA”. Don’t expect the game this side of Christmas though.

it wont be “for now” exclusive to 360 and windows, it would always remain that way. MSG is the publisher, i really dont see them porting the game to any other system.

other then that, the game looks great, hope it is actually scary.

This game looks amazing, and I will buy it and play it relentlessly, but am I the only one who thinks Alan looks like a doofus when he runs? They really need to fix that lame running animation, cause if they’re expecting me to be scared by this game, that’s gonna be a tricky thing to accomplish when I’m constantly laughing at the main character running like a chicken.

Best looking game - ever. Well atleast in 2006.

And yes, Alan walks like shit. The only thing I didnt like about the game.

And that’s saying something.
