The galactica game brings an experience that is out of this world!

Xbox Live is set to get a whole lot worse

Oh dear. In what is a horrible move from Digital Innovations, they have decided to produce an incredibly annoying gadget that will affect the whole of Xbox Live. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: SmackTalk.

The stupid little gadget comes with five very annoying sound clips pre-recorded. As if that wasn’t bad enough, you can also record your own noises over the preset ones, meaning the nuisance is endless.

  • Record through the 360 headset mic or from any audio source to make wacked out clips to drive your opponents nuts!
  • Record your voice using the XBOX 360 headset microphone.

It plugs in between your controller and headset

This gadget is likely to sell very well for those people who are destined to ruin peoples’ experiences online. Private games will surely become even more popular. Hopefully games will continue to include the “boot player” function for problems such as this. Why Microsoft allows this I don’t know, presumably because they can’t do much in the way to stop it. It just baffles me why Digital Innovations have decided to create this; looks like they don’t do alot of online gaming in their spare time. Admittedly it is a great business product. it retails at $29.99 and will be available in stores almost everywhere, so will be readily available to the children that enjoy annoying people. Planet Xbox 360 also agree.

Thanks to Zerodisorder for submitting (not that it’s a good thing ;))

And that’s Halo 3 scratched off my “games to buy” list.

rate player - avoid.

sorted. I for one would prefer pre-recorded smack talk to the crap I have to hear on a daily basis about ‘my momma’, ‘the jews’ and the way i must be ‘a nigger’ or ‘a fuckin fag’.

I rarely play with anyone outside my friends list now, the racism and biggotry displayed by the vocal minority (I hope) of gamers can really put you off the live experience after a while.

You just mute people, or stay in private chat with a friend.

The problem with mute is you have to go to so much trouble to do it. Too many menus

Comment by Sean on 2006-10-03 00:06:06 | Reply

Well, that might not stay that way for too long. Developers can/might/will add the function into game lobbies.

I just wish Microsoft would add controller shortcuts for friends list/mute. (in lobbies, where they wont interfere with games).

hahaha. people make everything these days….

Woo, my first news submit that was picked up :D

You should have kept this one a secret.

It would be out soon enough. I thought about removing the link, but people would find it eventually anyway if it’s in stores

This is stupid. You give the player a bad review. He gets enough bad reviews and suddenly he has 0 stars. You won’t be running into that guy anymore.

Plus, the thing is $30. Who the hell is paying $30 for a gizmo that makes dumb noises?

people are stupid…

And this is different from all the other annoying gadgets that allow you to change your voice or make sounds? What if I take my 2 year old son’s toys and play them on Xbox live??

Annoying people will use anything to annoy you, this won’t make it any more prevalent.

Comment by Hologuts on 2006-10-03 02:00:56 | Reply

And there’s me thinking this was already in use for the last 10 months….

Anyone who uses this would be on my mute list already or quickly added.

Best memories I have of Xbox Live were this kid that started singing in his squealing voice during a whole 30 minute game, meanwhile suiciding to the opponents most of the time. The joys of minors online!

Hm, as much as it could have negative implications, it also has some positive or fun ones.

For instance think about recording a short clip off a comedy sketch or album then playing that, or maybe a short clip from a song you love that’s possibly a bit taunting (Queen - We are the Champions). The only thing I see impairing the use of this in positive, clever, and interesting ways is the fact that each button has enough space for 5 seconds of data. That’s so dumb. I think I would have bought it if it were the same price with maybe 15-20 seconds of data, that way I could actually fit something on there.

If you want to see how this could be applied in a funny way check out Soundspoof.com it’s such a breath of fresh air, and it makes you completely re-think what you’ve heard over Halo 2 for almost two years. (In short, I think xboxic should make a post about this, I could submit it if that’s preferred what with the fact that focus is now on 3 sites instead of just one)

And this is why you only play with people on your friendslist. ;)

Give me a break whats with xboxic and their negative titles and negativity towards the 360 in these latest 2 posts….

this isnt going to make XBL “alot worse” because pretty much no ones gonna buy it and the fact is , all it does is say what you could easily say yourself. shesh

DOES ANYONE HERE ACTUALLY PLAY XBL…???

have you ever experienced ‘trash talk’?… halo 2?….

IF YOU DID PLAY XBL YOU WOULD KNOW THAT THERE IS A ‘MUTE’ FUNCTION….

(what exactly is the problem, i have to listen to loads of annoying dicks all the time… this gizmo might actually provide more of a comedy factor)

It would irritate me a lot to hear over and over a sound/soundclip that a 14yr old thinks is funny.

Comment by Andy on 2006-10-03 11:31:52 | Reply

I know it will be a pain, but just mute anyone with one of these. I find I have to mute loads of people on games such as Hold’em and Uno.

Comment by SilentAssassn87 on 2006-10-03 14:46:48 | Reply

Hi guys. Long time reader, first time poster. Personally, I think that this item won’t make the trash talk in XBL and worse that what it already is at times. IDK, there are some games that I have played where there hasnt been any trash talk (Burnout Revenge.)Then theres a game like Saints Row…where its impossible to go through a round without hearing the word Ni**er. All this will do is give the trash talkers out there new ways too piss people off. Id much rather here a voice clip of singing over someone calling other people racial terms. All we have to do is ignore it the way we ignore these idiots now.

Honestly, I want one, badly. I’m not gonna use it to so much to talk trash, but I’m gonna have funny audio clips on it.

Mute people on Uno, Poker? Eh?

I have never had to mute anyone on any game ever.

If they speak pish, I pull them up about it and explain why they are talking shite, then if they continue it just confirms what I have said then everyone in the room gives them shit and the leave, upset. Far better than muting someone. God people stand up for yourselves.

If you dont want to hear trash talking just mute the voice dont be one of those little bitches who tries to get people banned

Comment by FOURTW3NTY on 2006-10-03 23:22:32 | Reply

Amen to that. Mute before feedback.

Some people deserve to get banned though, let’s be honest

Comment by FOO Q on 2006-10-04 01:36:27 | Reply

Some people…er…kids…on XBL also deserve a swift kick to the teeth - I’d love to see a gadget or menu button to make that happen ;)

I agree…stand up for yourself before banning. Tell the kids to stop spewing high pitched nonsense from the holes under their noses. M$ should enforce some real consequences for people who abuse the chat channels…disallow XBL renewal, refund and cancel XBL account, etc. People act like dickheads because there’s no consequences. M$ can pay me to monitor the channels no problem…XBL would be a nice place in no time! haha

Comment by DK on 2006-10-04 02:09:42 | Reply

Well boys and girls, this could quite possibly turn out to be one of the most annoying Xbox inventions ever. Theres a reason I rarely play CS anymore… I got tired of being called a “b*tch” every 30 secs by 12 year olds… just imagine what crap will be spewed with this device from gaming hell >;)
