Possible Crysis port on the way?

Extreme detail in CrysisMichael Khaimzon, lead artist at Crytek has spoken exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz about their upcoming game Crysis. According to him it won’t be any problem to convert the game to our lovely next-gen consoles. This is in total contradiction with an earlier statement, coming from the Leipzig convention, saying that it was impossible to port the game to the 360 nor the PS3 because of the lack of power in the consoles and DirectX 10 support.

A lead artist saying that it won’t be any problem doesn’t mean they are already working on it, currently there are no plans in motion.

“We have enough power here, with programmers and artists, to be able to do such a thing. It’s just a matter of making the decision.”

He can’t say anything concrete yet, but rumors are there. And of course, it would be nice if we don’t have to buy a state of the art PC to play this game. On the question if the Crytek team would be interested in porting this game to the next-gen consoles at all, he answered the following:

“I’m pretty sure it would be interesting for us to do stuff on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.”

“We would just have to see how much of a sacrifice to the game we’d have to make. Or whether there would be a sacrifice at all, maybe we could find a way to make the game look exactly the same as it does on PC on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.”

So it’s all very contradicting. On one hand we have Crytek saying it’s impossible to port because of it’s 100% DirectX 10 use. On the other we have a lead artist coming up saying “we can do this”. And what we shouldn’t forget is that EA publishes Crysis. And we all know EA, if it’s all up to them this new upcoming success will definitely come to our 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, Xbox, cell phones, Nintendo DS, PSP, GBA and N-Gage. But still, how much they want it doesn’t matter, it just has to be technically possible.

I spose its up to the publishers whether they port to consoles, but again some people power might be needed if we want it on our mighty white whale.

i believe i heard that as well knoxin and microsoft said the next dashboard upgrade is adding more of the DX10 features software based natively to make it easier to move from dx10 on the pc to the 360…..

If it is coming to the console i hope MGS publishers the game and locks it for the 360 and vista MUHAHAHA

by the time this gets to xbox 360 it’ll be “Crysis: Instincts: Jungle Warror: Carnivore: Megawarrior”, complete with horrible controls and ultra downgraded graphics.

Ofcourse it can be done! Much better looking games can be made on the consoles. Too overrated, this game is.
