A few days ago Microsoft and New Line Cinema held a big event in 4 cities simultaneously to promote both Gears of War and the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel. While the movie might not be that interesting, the first public showing of Gears is reason enough to get curious. What’s even better is that all attendees got a chance to play some four on four Locust vs. Cog. GameInformer went in for the kill, made a report and posted two handfuls of videos. Sweet!

Combat was four on four, Locust vs. Cog, and took place in a bombed out city (just like in every other screenshot, video, or demo we’ve seen of the game). Players used everything from shotguns and machine guns to sniper rifles and grenade launchers. Some took advantage of the tactical reload where if you double click RB with the correct timing, you’ll reload faster and gain a temporary damage boost.

Plenty of headshots and instant kills abounded, but most of the time characters would collapse in a dazed state. At this time, a teammate could swoop in and revive them, but it leaves both team members vulnerable to attack.

The off screen videos are a looking really neat, it’s great to see Gears in action played by the public for the first time. Some people, including 1UP’s Luke Smith, complained that the stop-and-pop mechanic wasn’t working as intuitive as it should work yet. Sometimes the game just didn’t respond when you hit A to bash into cover, sometimes you couldn’t fire while in cover. Let’s hope Epic manages to work out these kinks before the game gets released on November 12th (US date, EU gets it a week later).
