How to make an easy $6000, by Rance6

Rance6 tops the leaderboard with the highest gamerscore to be on mygamercard.net. Xboxic interviewed him several months ago and it seems everyone wants to be him. At least it seems that way as he is now selling his GamerTag on eBay, complete with Hard Drive, and at the time of writing the bid was up to $6000. Ridiculous.

The initial auction had a reserve on it, however it seems to have either been met or removed. There is also still two days, 21 hours remaining, so the bidding could well surpass $10000 before the auction ends, which is frankly obscene.

I am having a very hard time understanding why people are paying so much money for a GamerTag with a stupidly high amount of Gamerscore points. Don’t they realise they can do it themselves, probably for less? Do points really matter that much to people? If so, I suggest people try and remember what games were initially all about: fun. I would love to know what MS think of this. Do they realise how obsessed people get with achievements and gamerscore?

And, in case you’re wondering, if you were to do pay for gamerscore enhancing, using the levelmy360 service, assuming you want 80,000 points, it would cost you $6,479.30 to do, using the 3000GS boost 27 times. So, chances are, it will eventually work out cheaper to use the service since the bidding will surely rise. Personally, I wouldn’t give either Rance6 or the guys at levelmy360 a sniff of my money, the little rats.

No, I don’t approve.

At least they get the XBLA games with the price.

But you will have to be connected to Live to play them properly, otherwise you will just get the trial versions of each game.

*sigh*

He’s selling it to get a PS3? $6,000 is that enough? ;)

This very lame, but he isn’t breaking any law, is he?

If people are stupid enough to pay for it let them, but i wouldn’t be surprised if microsoft wait until about a month after the auction then ban the account.

lol I would not be surprised if microsoft banned that account and forfeited all the points if it was sold on EBay. They have the right to do it.

Ok somebody is too fregin rich and has nothing better to do with their money. Wonder if he wants to buy a gamertag with 1721 points on it!!!! lol

I’m a little confused as to how this will even benefit the person who buys it, won’t they have to tell their friends, “I just changed my gamertag to Rance6, and OMG! it suddenly has 80k points, I RULE!!”?

Comment by davey bob on 2006-10-09 00:28:20 | Reply

do you really think whoever buys this has friends?

they wil most probs pay 800 ms points and change the gamertag

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people have more money than sence ’cause STONE COLD said so!!!!

Hey, don’t get mad at the guy selling it. Get mad at the people that are stupid enough to buy it. Hell, I might just sell my own hardrive if I get a lot of points on it XD

probobly just a bunch of fake bids!

I don’t think they are fake, because there was a reserve on it at one point, so although the bidding looks erratic (one guy outbids himself numerous times), I think that’s the reason. I wonder what the reserve was?!

I reckon if he had waited till he was on 100k GP and still on top it would have created a black hole capable of warping minds into a hell bent and feverish shroud as people kill to out bit one another to say “I F00KING r0xx0rZ”.

This just proves how pointless the GP ‘bragging’ is. Yeah, it’s nice to get points, but who cares really after shit like this?

Geometry Wars’ 200 points are worth ten times more than King Kong’s 1000 points if you ask me.

Actually, RANCE6’s gamerscore is currently 81048. That “3″ you saw in the screenshot was actually an 8 ;)

what if it was an empty harddrive :D

Comment by Karl on 2006-10-09 01:52:10 | Reply

yea, i’ll vouch for that..trying to stay alive through 250000 is hard enough, but reaching 1000000 total, thats downright impossible

Wow.

I think I am going have to start playing for achievements, so I can get k

what would you do if he put a passcode on the account, and then uploaded it onto his other harddrive after you bought it?

Lol, that would be just evil! But totally derseved!

does anyone even know if his JPN xbox 360 HD is compatible with US 360’s?

Comment by Darkhosis on 2006-10-09 06:16:10 | Reply

and yes i realise he is in europe somewhere but he said in an interview that he bought a japanese 360 so he could play japanese only games.

(After contacting him) Rance6 is actually selling his HDD with all the games, achievements etc. XBLA games can also be played with the use of Rance6’s gamertag, or by logging into Live and then playing with the original profile.
So this is not a fake…

If someone buys the HDD, he can simply change the gamertag to something new, and voila…. a new #1 Gamerscore leader… (and i must admit that being the first might sound silly but think of all the popularity Rance got…. i don’t agree with the process but….)

“Geometry Wars’ 200 points are worth ten times more than King Kong’s 1000 points if you ask me.” ten thousand times i might add…

what an asshole he’s selling his hard drive cuz he wants a ps3?the idiot owns a video game store for crying out loud

Comment by Taggsta on 2006-10-09 09:08:12 | Reply

MMMmmmmmmm….i think you missed the joke.
Who ever buys this HDD had better have some time to maintain it because within a week or two someone will take over 1st place and he’ll be known as the chum who spent silly money on a HDD and is ranked somewhere in the 100’s

And theres the nail gettin hit square on the head.
yuh if mr average 1-5k G buys this he is gonna have hella of job keeping it going. I for one will be watching this with interest and will be tracking the guys progress(down the leaderboard) :D

Yup i agree Chaos looking at his games list i doubt 80% were any fun for him just a boring task collecting acheivements. SAD SAD SAD.

Comment by Stonie on 2006-10-09 19:01:24 | Reply

I have a funny feeling that this saddo is not going to make his reserve. People are putting in some seriously silly bids just to take the piss.

Comment by haloman on 2006-10-10 02:01:12 | Reply
