More id games coming to XBLA

A few weeks back during X06 Microsoft and id Games brought Doom to the Xbox Live Arcade but there might be more underway. Firing Squad fired off an e-mail to id CEO Todd Hollenshead to ask him if there was a chance that we might see other id games on the XBLA if Doom sells enough.

Commander Keen

We’re looking at bringing some of the other games to XLA, but a lot is going to depend on the response to DOOM. From what MS tells us, its been fantastic so far, which bodes well for other id “classics” to be released there. But there’s nothing concrete. Making the surprise announcement at X06 for DOOM worked out great, so I’ll be tight lipped about anything specific for now

The IPs id can choose from include the Commander Keen series, Hexen, Heretic, another Doom title, Wolfenstein 3D and some obscure stuff like Hovertank 3D and Rescue Rover. It would be nice if they developed something specifically for the Arcade but we all know that Microsoft hates originality when it comes to Arcade titles ;-).

I really, really want Doom2. That was my favorite. All they’ve got to do is replace the .wad file in the current Doom XBLA game and resubmit for certification. If it showed up on the marketplace I would spend another $10.00 on it right now.

Yeah, Doom 2 would be great. I didn’t realise until I played through Doom on XBLA, all of my Doom-related childhood memories are actually of Doom 2.

And hopefully id will continue to be successful on XBLA, and we can start hassling 3DRealms to get Duke Nukem 3D converted ;)

commander keen is the shiit
although id rather see a next gen remake but that will never happen

i said it b4 and i’ll say it again… Wolfenstein 3D ’nuff said (PLEASE!!!!!)

keen would be cool if they could make some kind of XBL mode but i doubt it cus i hate when they make titles that are just “XBL Aware” thats BS (fuckin Dig Dug)

Quake 2’s already on Xbox 360 ;) It was included as a bonus disc with Quake 4.

Didn’t know that. :P
Did it include multiplayer? I always had a good time playing Rocket Arena on Q2.

Forget I’D…I just came from the Digital Life Expo at the Javits Center here in New York and some of the xbla games coming down the pipe are gonna be better than anything from the makers of Doom.

We need some 3D Realms ports ….

Technically Hexen isn’t an Id game but a Raven software game. :p

Keen would be awesome, and given the success of similar games on XBLA like Cloning Clyde, I don’t see why Keen wouldn’t be a success as well. Doom 2 would be awesome as well. I don’t know about seeing Quake as really Q1 single-player sucked, it was the multiplayer that made it special, and DOOM over Xbox Live was a pretty major disappointment for me (way too much lag).

IMHO the Doom demo was the worst ever… back in 1993 we got an entire episode to play and now we got one level that you can finish in about 18 seconds, after which the 360 hangs. I have bought almost every ID game ever in my playing days on the PC but see no need to spend 800MP’s on old classics like this. ID would create goodwill by giving this away for free and develop some new stuff for the 360 XBLA… right now I am seeing them as greedy bastards trying to cash in on a 13 year old game.
