The galactica game brings an experience that is out of this world!

Gears of War late night event

On the 21st of October, those of you lucky enough to live next to a participating EB Games store can see some exclusive Gears of War footage for a whole hour after the store has closed. Along with that, you also get to take home some nice goodies.

From the email sent to subscribers:

After participating stores close, customers 17 years of age or older will be readmitted for a sneak peek at exclusive video content for Gears of War. Anyone caught with a fake moustache will be sent home immediately, without a glass of milk or cookies. While supplies last, FREE lanyards, pins and gamer id tags will be given to those who attend.

In addition you can purchase either a 3-month or 12-month Xbox Live Kit at $5 OFF the regular price. Stores will only be open one hour for this event. Contact your local EB Games/GameStop to confirm participation and event details.

Once again, those lucky Americans get another attempt at seeing Gears of War early. How much more hype will the game receive between now and the release? I think someone has got to say enough is enough, it’s getting a bit silly now. Also, for Europeans, one month today you will playing Gears! That’s something to excite you if this news does not!

So do you plan on going? If so, let us know how it goes over in the forums and take a picture of everything you manage to take away from the event, as well as the videos you see!

Thanks to Paul from Video Game Jocks for the submission.

I don’t think we actually get to play the game. The quote you put in says we get to see video content. I see nothing about actually playing the game.

Hmm, you’re right. I changed the post a bit, thanks for that. I wrongly assumed you would be able to play it!

“While supplies last, FREE lanyards, pins and gamer id tags will be given to those who attend.”

*HEAD IN HANDS, SHAKING MY HEAD LEFT TO RIGHT.*

And this takes place at ebGAMEs right? You know, the GAME store, where they sell GAMEs. ebGAMEs is showing a “sneak peek at exclusive video content” at a GAME store. so go see the “sneak peek at exclusive video content” VIDEO at ebGAMEs on October 21st…

Pet stores do this too, so does that make GOW=IAMS Orange Bag?

Fetch rover! Stop and Pop fido!

So you can play the demo at E03, X06, and TGS; you can watch the IGN PLAY the game; you can go to 1up at watch 1up PLAY the game. But ebGAMEs gets videos and no gameplay? Oh yeah, this ain’t MTV or Hollywood, so the average Joe gets SQUAT.

Jesus, just… wow. You know, I thought maybe, just maybe, I might have been a little hard on Epic, CliffyB, and the rest.

Nope, I was dead on. Say, I got an idea; how about on emergence day, you don’t even put discs in the lime green boxes?!?!? NO ONE WOULD EXPECT THAT. I mean, short of CliffyB coming to each ebGAMEs to demo the game, is it really that hard to put a damn controller into the end user hands? I guess it is.

GOW is doing everything short of LETTING THE END USER PLAY THE DAMN THING to get word of mouth out on this title. Hype, hype, hype. Say it three times fast like that and you will start to sound like a small annoying dog. Just like this buildup - a small annoying dog.

F**k this game. F**k this company. F**k this promotion and hype. Your game IS NOT that special.

Mental note: play the Lost Planet SP Demo again today to wash this dirt off. At least that will be hands-on.

Why you have to down play everyone who likes GoW? I mean, just leave us waiting for it, don’t come to EVERY GoW post and say how YOU don’t like it.

Ok so you get loads of people turning up at the store to play GOW.Now it becomes a problem putting a joystick into everyone’s hand.
You’d have to install new 360 pods to avoid a massive line of players stuck behind a machine.
It’s not a simple as sending a disk to a store and letting people play the game….Demand is high as I can tell by your rant about F this gams and F this company…..But I bet you still buy it ……..

Why? Someone has to. This is XBoxic, when are we supposed start pulling punches or play favorites? You want happy go lucky coverage, try 1up.

I mean, come on Trigger M4n, this is just bullshit. You know it, I know it, and lot of other people I am sure feel it at least.

I have seen I think every kind of “marketing” ever for this game, yet when it comes down to the actual game, there is very little concrete information - other than what we already know (prison level, 2 levels of MP, chainsaw on the gun, etc.).

And I have never, ever downplayed anyone else’s anticipation or fever for this game. All my comments are directed to the geniuses at Epic and their entourage of hanger-ons and other Hollywood style waste these days.

But key chains? PENS? We are a month out so do you think they could actually let Joe Public play the game or is it THAT flawed?!

And I don’t see you talking to the other posters who come in here and say pretty much the same things I do.

Which is - No Demo = Flawed Title.

I am not the only one who thinks this, so where is your statement with them?

If you are tight with the Epic guys, great; be friends, but this promotion, and yesterdays “dogtag picture”, and last week’s countdown, et al (I could go on, but…), this is just bullshit hype and you know it. And it is not even ORGANIZED hype. It is like they have a dartboard in CliffyB’s office with ideas on each number. In the morning, they toss a dart, read off the idea, and send out the annoucement.

You want me sold, put that controller in my hand. Or is it just too much to ask without forking over $60 (not $50 per MS policy) BLIND on a title. Two years ago this would have been the cover demo for somebody and then you could put your hands on it. But since MS so desperately wants “digital content”, the paradigm changed. And now we get this crap. But you know, “digital content” has to have an advantage to the end user somewhere or else it means nothing. Coming from that prespective, this “hype” truly means nothing.

Because this game is RE4 Mercenaries in a Sci-Fi element. And at this time, Lost Planet seems to be the same type of game. And LP at this point gets my money, not GOW.

Because Capcom has balls, and they stand behind their product by giving us a demo 8 months before release date. And that demo still holds up.

Gears Of War? Keychains and Pens.

This is an easy decision, trust me. Under this environment, I take Capcom over Epic anyday of the week.

And to be clear, I AM leaving you to wait for it. I have said that about 6 times now.

Sorry you don’t like my style, but it is a style grounded in reality.

They’re only hyping it. I don’t remember the general public being able to play Halo 2, DooM3 or Half-Life 2. Apart from special events, which these guys at Microsoft and Epic seem to like.

This really has nothing to do with the conversation, but I will note that all three games Trigger M4n mentioned were all leaked at one point or another. Doom 3 Alpha, Half Life 2 Beta, Halo 2 French version; all of these were leaked. Strange.

I just noticed that and wanted to post it.

What I will mention is that those three above games were not shoved down our throats like GOW is. Not playable to the public is one thing; having ebGAMEs host a “VIDEO PRESENTATION” is just stupid. Might as well host it in Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, or FYE then. In my mind, if you are going to host an “event” in the public, and host it in GAME SHOP, then have the game ready to be played.

When did demoes become “the great evil”? Used to be this was the way you truly got your game over. Now it seems that demoes are just too much work for some people. Which of course is bullshit. Again, if you have it playable at E3, X06, and TGS and you keep carting the game around for all the IGNs and 1up to WATCH, then I think you can have it playable for the public in a game store.

So what about that TCM crosseover event? That was public, right SidearmS? Well, yes. If you went to that movie. And yes, you got to play it. Which is great. But you had to pay for the movie to get in there.

Again, one hand does not know what the other hand is doing. If anyone from Ubisoft sees this, please, please, please do not do this with Assassin’s Creed. It does not need this kind of marketing.

Hey SidearmS just chill. You write 11.000 lines of response. If you don’t like it then don’t go. If you don’t like Epic’s strategy with the game don’t buy it from the beginning. Go to a friends’ or a VIDEO game store and try it, or wait for the demo 4 months from now try it then and if you like it go buy it.

But please stop bitchin for no important reasons.

Wow, “ChillOutDude”, I never thought about that way…

…you know, like the sound of a water truck hitting a vinegar truck…

…D-OU-CHE.

I will not apologize because you can not read or comprehend the English language. If “11000 lines of response” is too much for you, then just say so.

This is what is known as a “posting”, and it requires the use of alphanumerical characters and puncuation symbols. So I have to use words. They are how we who don’t vegetate in front of our 360s communicate in that funny place we call the real world.

But if no one speaks up now, then it will only get worse. But of course, that would be fine with you, huh “ChillOutDude”?

The reasons ARE important, and when it is about a game YOU care about, it will suddenly seem important too.

Think before you speak, and if you speak, speak like somebody who isn’t brain damaged from too much hair frosting.

I am not a “OMG LAMO G0W is like Pr0n and w33D in the same box!” kind of guy. Deal with it. Just like I have to deal with XBoxic posting every stupid GOW thing that happens:

Example, NOT A REAL EVENT:

This weekend, GOW will be at the San Salado Wine Tasting Festival. Tickets are $32 USD for wine tasting, cork sniffing, cheese wheel tutorial, chainsaw shotgun basics, GOW coasters for your wine glasses, and a playable kiosk for GOW’s MP demo, previously seen at E3, TGS, and X06. This kiosk will be manned by the lead singer of Tool, and you can’t play it. Doors open at 7pm and last until the guys from Epic drink all the booze.

Bitching? Hah, you wish it was that easy.

So ENJOY GOW. Please; BUY IT (if you want to, not because it is “cool” or “next-gen”), stare at the metal tin you paid $10 extra for, put your art book in mylar, then do what really is important to a gamer - play the game.

Everything else is fluff.

man slidearms shut up. do u really need to ramble on that much. and who the hell cares if there is no demo BOO F’ing HOO. all i know is i like alot of epics games in the past so i have no dought in my mind that this will be a good game. so SHUT UP!!!!

Lawls. “Slidearms”.

There’s been advertisements for this game?

But really, the only reason the hype’s getting to you is because you let it. =P Just take the same stance with video game advertisement as you do with TV or radio commercials: ignore them. Read the title for the next piece of hype, don’t pay any mind to it, and move on. Judge the game when it comes out, and judge it then alone, because the final version of any game is the only real measure of how good it is. If the game sucks, then you can complain about the hype (and add this game as another chapter in the “massive flop” book).

However unlikely it is, Capcom could shoot themselves in the foot between the time of the demo release and the final game release - maybe the game will have severely flawed multiplayer, or some inexplicable bug that causes the game to crash. We can’t know. So judge it when it’s released.

And… Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries in a Sci-Fi element? You’re not the only one who played the Lost Planet demo, and quite frankly, it played nothing like the Mercenaries mini-game. I can’t speak for Gears of War, but it at least looks to be different from that. I don’t remember ever making a creative use of cover in Mercenaries and having prolonged gun battles with the same enemy.

Anyways.

Yeah, demo would’ve been nice. But oh well. I’ve gone without demos before. If the magazines say it’s decent, then I’ll look into buying it.

I went last night, and they showed level two footage (yes, it was different!) and gave out a code card for a theme and picture pack. As of right now, the codes don’t work. But I have passed the word on about that.

The game has been cleaned up greatly, and the framerate has been improved. The game is still Stop and Pop, but the graphics engine is impressive and my military gamer pal really liked the combat.

So remember, when you pick up guns, yell “SWEET!” as loud as you can. Because Dom and Marcus do hahaha.

And to CliffyB, nice to see you acknowledge the new stuff in the beginning of the presentation. Even you knew the stuff was getting repetitive, so showing off the next single player level after the infamous prison level was good. And yes, I know when that message was put in - I hope your lunch did not get cold hahahaha.

Still want a demo, but for the folks who want this title, it should meet your needs. Now is it a Halo 2 killer? Honestly, I am not sold on that, but it is better than 95% of what is out there right now.
