Lumines Live! set for tomorrow

Lumines Live!, as rumoured for a while now, will be released as soon as the Xbox Live maintainence work is over, which is rumoured to be around 2AM CDT (roughly 9AM in the UK). But it does come at a big price.

Just to play, the game will cost you 1200 MS Points, then a further 600 MS Points for an additional pack with some added features:

The full version of the game will be 1200 points. Plus an optional pack for 600 points will also be available that will allow gamers to change their music scene as well as choose from 22 new skins. I’ll post the moment ‘Lumines Live’ is available on the Marketplace. The actual time of availability will depend how the rest of the maintenance goes :)

Major also posts what the game is about and what features to expect when you purchase the full game:

  • Full online multiplayer play over Xbox Live – battle your friends head-to-head
  • Classic Lumines gameplay, including Challenge, Puzzle and vs. CPU modes
  • All-new Skin Edit Mode allows you to re-mix the order of your unlocked skins to create a custom Lumines experience
  • All-new Mission mode presents player with pre-designed Lumines puzzle scenarios
  • Dynamic skins, sound effects and music optimized specifically for Lumines Live! in high-definition graphics and 5.1 channel surround audio
  • Extensive downloadable content support over Xbox Live Marketplace – add new skins, puzzles, missions, artist packs and more
  • Full suite of online leaderboards

You will have to pay extra for the pleasure of having Madonna in the background…

So there we have it. Is this over-priced or just right? For me, yes, it’s over-priced. The demo will have to be bloody good if it is ever to sway me for a purchase on this one. Though at least you won’t have to pay for the multiplayer (as confirmed already, but things could have changed), which I suppose we should be greatful for.

Thanks to DSK UK for the submission.

Hopefully the demo is good, may get more play from em than the expensive GRAW pack I bought.

Yay! Since i’m a big Lumines fan, and I got rid of my psp a while ago, I’m going to buy it for sure.. the price is a lil’ so-so though, could be 1200 for the total pack, like 800+400, that’s more of a nice price..

But still, I want the Tony Hawk demo.. more than anything. I’d actually pay for it.. :(

It’s 35 frigging bucks on the PSP. 1200 isn’t that expensive.

I was going to boycott this game with the rumored pricing scheme, but now that they decided to sell the actual full game for the 1200MP and only sell really optional extensions at extra price I’ll be giving it a go.

I agree about the Tony Hawk Demo. Isn’t it supposed to be out, like, um, now?

At least that’s what they had said on their homepage, right?

it retails for 35$ and there selling the basic for 1200 and an addon with videos and music for 600 points that the RIAA is probably taking a chunk of… give me a break and this has xbl multiplayer support and your saying the 1200 points is soso?

Got this on my phone for free from Orange so will be giving this a wide berth. Not good enough to be that expensive in my opinion, it’s way to easy and repetitive.

Comment by Skullfire on 2006-10-18 01:16:49 | Reply

Nice that you got it free on your phone, but you cannot argue that is the same to playing the game in high-def, 5.1 surround with multiplayer. That’s worth £10 no problem, and if you feel like more skins and music, you can get those for an extra £5, but you will hardly miss out on anything if you don’t get them (optional, remember).

It’s completely flipping different on a mobile.

It’s easy because:
A: it’s runs at less than half the speed of the PSP title.
B: the play area is half the width of the PSP title.
C: the mobile game is divided into levels with loading gaps between, the PSP title goes continuously from one to the next.

it’s repetitive because:
A: the MIDI soundtrack loops every 30 seconds, in the PSP title the game is tied to full length music tracks
B: the design barely changes after each level, in the PSP the background, blocks, SFX and even the fonts change each level.

AND Orange give away a smaller version of the mobile game, the paid for one is larger. Not too disimilar from the MS approach.

hehe ya exactly… now scale it up from PSP to HDTV, add in more speed, full media and video, XBL multiplayer support… ya i’d say its worth it :)… you cant compair the 360 or psp version to a mobile… a phone game is… well… a phone game lol

I’m buying it.. not the optional pack, however.

Where the hell did you learn maths?
1200 + 600 = 1800 points.
This works out about £14 or something, which to be honest is a good price.
The game was £35 on PSP and this version has more added.

Comment by McGrude on 2006-10-18 05:04:44 | Reply

And some removed.

The developer doesn’t have to burn the discs, print the packaging (which everyone sends to the landfill) or distribute the product physically.

I’d been reporting on every previous price rumor (seriously, look up “Lumines” and “cost” on this site) and I thought 1200+900+600. But at 1200 for the full game, I’m definitely reconsidering ;)

Comment by SidearmS on 2006-10-18 20:25:07 | Reply

You were close man, it was 1200+600 to start (the 600 pack is not up at the moment). And then add in 300+400 and you were only off by one Lego Star Wars II save game…

Lummines Lease - catch it today!

This one will get my Wife interested in the 360. She clocked the PSP Luminies with 99999999999 and didnt stop until she filled the score board from top to bottom.(Easy achievement points for me :)

Comment by kevgallacher on 2006-10-18 02:01:13 | Reply

More like 999,999 as that is the highest possible score.

Comment by kevgallacher on 2006-10-18 02:04:58 | Reply

Play.com has Lumines 2 (the same game) costing £17.99.
They also sell Microsoft points st 2100 for £16.99 which could get you Lumines plus extra points for something else.
Overall the game is cheaper on 360.

1200 points with XBL multiplayer vs 35$ retail… i’ll take it for the frigging 360 with multiplayer support thank you very much

and the 600 points is for extra levels if you beat the included levels, and for music videos… dont forget this is a legit thing, im sure the studios for the music ppl are taking a chunk of that 600 points.

Music + Videos + 5.1 surround sound + xbl support + hidef ya i’d say this is worth the 1200 points and if i beat it i’ll be getting the extra stuff i mean stop being so damn cheap….

This isnt a retro port its a full fledged game that retails for 35$ on a psp with limited features… give me a break

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-18 04:38:59 | Reply

lets see at most its 23USD that includes the bonus pack or 14.99 and you get the full game with multiplayer and hidef…

And then you have the psp version with no multiplayer, no videos, no music really beyond the basic, and it costs 35$ and you play it on a 4″ screen? ya i can see why so many people think the 360 version is expensive lol NOT

I’ve heard good buzz as well … fingers crossed!

Comment by Diogo on 2006-10-18 08:52:08 | Reply

Wow that would cost almost £18!! I could have Lara Croft’s latest adventure for that price . :(

Still I might get it if I like the trial . ^_^
wonder when they release sonic on the arcade too , that game Im would pay double for .

How did I know it would be Lumines.
Cant belive Major said on his podcast it would be something we all like, the game sucks. The pricing sucks, the game is gonna suck on Live.

As for downtime, well as long as there no more maintentance this year im not to bothered.
But whats the odds theres another one gonna happen after the Fall Update/HD DVD launch…. should be compensated, 26+ hrs free live

Comment by Lotus 111s on 2006-10-18 11:40:17 | Reply

I officially suck at this game

Comment by Lotus 111s on 2006-10-18 12:13:18 | Reply

The game still officially sucks as far as i am concerned, and it is the same as the version on my mobile just with a few extra spangly sounds and whot not. Same small ass play area and it’s to easy and repetitive. Ohh for Spacegiraffe.

Comment by RodmanSan on 2006-10-18 12:47:59 | Reply

Nag….nag….nag….

Comment by Nekro on 2006-10-18 12:50:12 | Reply

Who said this game has easy achievements? Cos I only have 2 so far. It took me 6 goes to get the 30 blocks in 60secs achievement and 2 for the 20k one. 60 blocks in 60secs now seems a bit extreme. Not to forget the extra challenge the d-pad creates.

Better get my thumbs ready.
