The galactica game brings an experience that is out of this world!

THPS8 demo available

We told you that the THPS8 demo would be available yesterday, well it got delayed a bit but it’s finally on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It’s pretty small, only 342.53MB of data. When we tried to download it, it didn’t show up in the ‘Newly Released Game Demos’ section but we managed to find it in the ‘All Game Demos’ section.

THPS8

Gamers can download the demo and hit the Concrete Park where they will experience some of the latest innovations in the #1 best selling action sports franchise from Activision, Inc., including “Nail the Trick,” which gives players precision control over how their skater moves their feet to flip the skateboard; “Filmer” goals that require players to follow a cameraman and complete tricks that he calls out; and “Spot Challenges” which are ambient goals that players can access throughout the game world and complete as they choose.

THPS8 is scheduled for the 7th of November for the US and the 17th of November for EU on Xbox 360, Xbox, Playstation 2 and PSP.

Thanks for submitting Koifim!

Amazingly small demo at 340mb, damn i hopes this is good.

You can only play it for 20:00 minutes, then you’ll see some ads and you’ll be send to the dashboard :-(

20 minutes is a lot. Better then the 10 minutes on the TD:U demo

TDU demo was an hour?

the first demo was only 10 mins, the second demo nearer release was an hour

Piece of junk. Unless you’re a finger acrobat who doesn’t need a gf because you can pleasure yourself in ways we can’t even begin to imagine you won’t have fun with this. I never could get the hang of games that required rapid input of silly button/stick direction combos like fighting or skating games but with previous Tony Hawk games ppl like myself could at least pretend to have some fun and get at least some stuff done simply by mashing various buttons without really knowing what you’re doing.

If you play thp8 like that chances are you won’t even jump much or get anything done AT ALL. It’s by far the most complex and unforgiving control scheme I’ve ever seen in such a game.

Of course, if you’re good at micro managing each and everyone of your 10 fingers and are able to perform independet motions and actions with them (see gf reference above) you will probably love this game for an eternity and beyond.

To me, this one is similar in causing frustration as DOA4 was. Sad because I was really hoping the new control scheme would make things easier for those of us who don’t do too well with such controls.

Guess I’m a finger acrobat. I love this demo and I want this game so badly. I’m glad they made it less noobfriendly, this game has a shot at being the best THPS game ever. It launches on the same day as Gears of War here and I’m def. buying this before Gears.

I’m having a great time with this demo and I’m ranking up more points then ever before. Sorry sir, but your skills are lacking.

Oh and I have an incredibly hot girlfriend.

I enjoyed this demo as well.. The Nail the Trick isnt that hard, you just gotta hold your legs in a single direction out of the way of the board, and if you want to do multiple combos, just time it right and push and hold your leg in another direction.

And, if you’ve been a THPS player since the first, thats the ONLY thing new in this demo, so its easy to handle the extra feature. Well there are buttons for skipping and rolling out of bails.. thats nice! I got tired of freaking out, always took waaay to long.

It’s nice to see games running at 60fps without any vsync or tearing issues. I wish more 360 games ran this smoothly. (Hell, I’ll accept 30fps games too as long as they’re a solid 30fps without skipping or tearing.) Developers please take note.

You are a wise man.

FRAMERATE WHORES FTW!!

NEXT-GEN GAMES NOT BEING ABLE TO RUN AT A STEADY 30FPS FTL!

OK, I am from UK. I have both THPS8 and UM3, both now in the NEW RELEASED sections.

This plays like a dream, damn i love these skateboarding games too much.

Comment by CrunchinJelly on 2006-10-21 18:24:13 | Reply

…It plays the exact same as all the other Tony Hawk’s games only with a new graphics engine and some lame physics enhine that just doesn’t work. They would have been better off just licencing the Havok engine.

2/10.

Comment by Guy on 2006-10-21 19:40:02 | Reply

I’d be pissed if it played differently. This is what I expect out of a Tony Hawk series game, but its actually more different than I expected. Its definately a new engine, but still has the same core feel of the good ‘ol tony hawks. So overall I’m quite pleased, defiantely alot better than American Wasteland.

Comment by Stonie on 2006-10-21 18:49:07 | Reply

There are some framerate problems with the demo, hope this is fixed for the final version.

107th Combo score in the world after 10 minutes of playtime!! i am awesome!

:D didn’t know there were leaderboards. I’m at 187.

Comment by coojo on 2006-10-21 19:39:44 | Reply

this game is lame thats a shame if this costs $60

Looking forward to your comment on my review when this game gets an 8 :D

(not saying that it will but if the demo is any indication then it will get a pretty good score)

Voyager2k,
Just because you’re lame and or retarded, Does not mean the game is a piece of junk. So far it’s been killer! I’m over 40 and still have my “Buttom mashing skillz”.

Comment by Voyager2k on 2006-10-22 12:43:47 | Reply

So, if you are unable do long button/stick combos you are “lame and retarded” and according to Nino that’s lacking “skill” ? I really wonder what that has to do with a game’s control accessibility at all. It’s 10 year old “my penis is bigger than yours” trash talk and uncalled for.

If I recall correctly one of the announced major benefits of the new controls is better accessibility and that simply isn’t true. It’s worse than previous TH games, much worse.

I am not saying it’s a bad game or anything like it. If you can manage to work with the controls I guess it’s great and fun but if you have trouble with control schemes that require you to rapidly input long combos and time each and everything near perfect then thp8 becomes a very frustrating adventure for you.

And if that offends even 40+ year old fanboys … hell I can’t help it but I’ll still speak my mind. Maybe I shouldn’t have called the holy th game a “piece of junk” but that’s precisely what came to my mind after playing the demo.

But I guess that’s not a popular thing to say if almost everyone is so hyped about a game :)

If Neversoft decided to make it friendly for people who can’t cope with a bit of challenge or any learning curve at all then they would’ve pissed of all their fans, the majority of the people who are most likely to buy this game.

from what i’ve seen game looks good and multiplayers whats really gonna sell the game i think … too bad the ps3 lost multiplayer support in their version lol

Comment by quaddity on 2006-10-22 07:57:07 | Reply

Don’t listen to the losers on here saying how bad TH is. If you are a previous TH player and fan you will love the new version. Definitely buying it. The nail a trick mode is the only new thing to the control scheme. You can pick it up and play it as easily as the last few TH releases.

fun, this demo rocks!

I like although its a little limited but thats demos for ya and also although improved the graphics ain’t brilliant but then thats Tony Hawks games. Might be worth getting.

Comment by SidearmS on 2006-10-22 18:50:55 | Reply

This is the first TH I have played since the Dreamcast versions, and I liked it.

It is a little klunkly in the controls when things get fast, but I am hoping that is because this is a demo and will be ironed out by the time retail hits. But the graphics look good, and that town at the end is huge…

This is the win.
