CliffyB says goodbye to Gears of War
Clifford Bleszinski has now said in his blog that he’s done being the lead designer of Gears of War. Why? Well, the games pretty much complete, other than debugging and shipping. He wasn’t fired, or ‘let go’. He’s just done with it. He also says in his blog that he can’t confirm or deny if GoW has gone gold or not.
CliffyB, like a lot of Xbox 360 teams creating software has tried to stay as close to the community as possible. He’s always been known to be real and he seems to try to leave the thinnest layer of bullshit as possible. People have really noticed, and most people who read what he says or watches videos of what his thoughts are seem to like him.
My job as designer of Gears of War is, well, more or less done. I can’t speak to the status of gold or shipping but those of you familiar with development know that at a certain point you’ve just got to let your baby get on the school bus and hope for the best.
The days of shipping a game and hopping on a plane for someplace warm to get the heck away are long gone. I’ve got a busy few weeks ahead of me filled with promotional events; a pair of them in everyone’s favorite town of LA. Microsoft knows they’re not launching a game anymore, ever since the smash of Halo 2 I think they’ve realized that they’re launching entertainment itself. It’s not just a game, it’s a fucking EVENT.
There you have it. Microsoft is trying to launch entertainment, and they seem to be doing quite amazingly hugely well. Just in the past 2 months, Xboxic has written 31 stories relating to Gears of War. Is the continued hype planned? You bet your bottom dollar it’s planned. GoW’s hype actually rivals the amount given to Halo 2 in 2004. Is that a good thing? That’s your call. It does set the bar frighteningly high for the title, and we’re all hoping that Gears of War can reach that bar and surpass it by many many times.
CliffyB seems to know what he’s doing. With his exit, we’re all hoping he knows about this monster he’s created in hype and expectancy for Gears of War set to launch November 12, 2006.
this game looks pretty good. i hope the story is good.
I hope hope hope that GoW neutralizes the PS3 launch. GoW will go gold soon and platinum even faster.
it’s not going to neutralize it, i hope it just keeps PS3 in check. the PS3 is obviously not any more special, if anything at all, then the xbox 360. i want a few games to emphasize this, i think this could be one of them.
heres the issue the ps3 doesnt really have any killer launch titles and many games that are dual platfrom like cod3 turns out they look better on the 360… add to that the fact they are talking about slipped shipping deadlines again and lower numbers its not looking like a ps3 christmas… i just hope we see some more 360 games advertised on tv for christmas along withthose cool hddvd commercials… the one with the step group would rock on mtv

When can we stop calling it next gen? When the “Next Gen” comes along. I think we can stop calling it that now. It has been out nearly a year now.
I think we stop calling it Next Genm when all system are out?
Im guessing thats why sony can say that they decide the the next gen starts.
Hes i tip, nomatter when it its or what consoles are out it is the current generation. Next gen means the console is in development.

I wonder if it’s coming at all, maybe only later. It’s almost noon now and there isn’t a demo but I expect it to be out in the evening
I think OXM has some type of timed exclusive for it to be on their demo disc. Subscribers are supposed to get it this week. It will probably be on the US marketplace in a week or so.
Cliffy B HAS confirmed that it’s gone gold. IF you listen to Major Nelson’s podcast he says it then

hehe bosses… hve you noticed we havent seen the boss battles yet in gameplay HEHEHEHE there keeping it a closely guarded secret… on a mtv interview he said there gonna scare the crap outta us hehehehe… im so hyped for this game and excited

All the different moves you could do, thats about it. But the run and gun just made me think I was watching a polished version of DOOM,QUAKE4.
Also the weapons where nice, and the coop drop in and out will be the only reason I buy/rent(?not decided yet) this game.

Dont get me wrong I was wanting this game ever sice I herd about it, but after watching the gameplay I really wasnt impressed, except it did looked(Graphics)very sweet but then again I dont play games because of what they look like

Well see there Glov. If your able to run threw this game in 8 to 12hr (Run and Gun) then yes it will be like quake. If not then I’m wrong…

It’s just a moniker. I think it will stay next-gen throughout the cycle of these systems.
