Gears of War - promotional ad

Gears of War clearly hasn’t had enough promotion yet. There may still be a few souls in the furthest reaches of the universe who’ve not yet heard of the game. Microsoft are clearly aware of this and are working to fix the problem. To help do so, a promotional ad for Gears of War is now available from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Gears of War

The download is accompanied with the following description: Exclusive “Gears of War” commercial that will run in Cinema and on TV. This gripping ad was produced entirely on in game engine. Emergence Day is imminent!

So there we have it, if you can’t wait to see it on TV or at the Cinema, head over to Live Marketplace and download it for yourself. It’s well worth a watch. If you’re without Xbox Live and want to see what all the fuss is about, Xboxyde.com have made the trailer available for download.

Note: This promotional ad is not available in Germany where Emergence Day isn’t happening.

its a commercial and i think it rocked, got where do you people get your definition of hype?

Comment by JC on 2006-10-25 17:35:43 | Reply

It’s a very nice advertisement.
Can’t wait for the game to ship..

Unfortunately, this hype is a way of cashing in. No demo before launch should make people wary. Not everyone who gets the game will be happy with it, without a demo too many sales will be to people that would not have bought if a demo had been released first. Selling through hype alone to maximise sales.

This game may be a rental first to be sure it lives up to expectations. My guess is that a lot of gamers are going to be unhappy.

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-25 20:26:35 | Reply

dagh be quite, many good games didnt have demos first as they said on MN, would you perfer a demo this year or the actual game? They dont want to give away the secrets like boss battles and videos until the game is released stop this crap about hype….

Whats with everyone claiming its over hyped? People say its over hyped, then a reviewer plays a game and says the game is unbelievable and rocks even more in person, but tats hype as well why are people never happy, stop whining.

This starts reminding me of the windows95 hype 11 years ago which resulted in a lot of ppl buying windows95 without even having a pc or knowing what it actually is :)

So, let’s see how many folks we’ll see cruising the streets after emergence day and whacking each other over their collective heads with their copy of the game ^^ I hear Ken Kutaragi will accept GoW throwing challenges. He claims to do 100 meters easily with a retail xbox game but also claims that every ps3 game will fly at least twice as far if thrown properly!

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-25 20:27:55 | Reply

wtf are you talking about, wow the move to 32 bit computing in a windows environment was hyped, wow… that turned out horrible, lets see windows accounts for 96% of computers world wide in the hundreds and hundreds of millions… bad example and lame content.

Comment by Voyager2k on 2006-10-25 23:21:21 | Reply

You do not understand, do you ? Try reading slowly, maybe that helps.

Windows back then was hyped so much by print media as well as tv that even ppl WHO DID NOT EVEN HAVE A PC bought windows95 just because all the marketing efforts got to them. Grandma and grandpa bought windows95 without even knowing what it was just because everyone said it was “something good” and the tv adds said everyone should have it.

Get it now smartboy ? It’s not about the product, it’s about marketing beeing effective enough to sell a product to ppl who absolutely don’t need it and have no means of using it.

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-25 20:28:49 | Reply

yes overhyped and overrated, god forbid the fact every person that sat and actually played it has praised it as unbelievable… wow gamers that play the game like it but you being lame think its overhyped, stop being lame.

STOP BEING FANBOY!!

Super slick trailer, cleverly edited to the music.

Really nice trailer … a sweet turn of a.) new game-engine footage coupled with b.) good music and mood (that isn’t pure heart-thumping metal, for once).

I dig it.

The song, incidentally, is Mad World by Gary Jules, popularized in the (fantastic) movie Donnie Darko.

whoever wrote this post has a very important thing to learn:

not everyone in the world is an xbox 360 fanboy like those of us who read this site, look at xboxyde, etc.

I love my 360 and when I try to tell people about all the cool games coming out for it, they haven’t heard of any of them, including gears of war.

if microsoft wants a chance to win the next-gen console race, they have to inform the GENERAL public about their graphical achievements. none of my friends have heard of gears of war. of course, when i show them videos they think its awesome, but they never would have seen them if i didnt show it to them.

fanboys have a problem of assuming everyone else is a fanboy, too. however, 99% of the world has never heard of GoW.

“There may still be a few souls in the furthest reaches of the universe who’ve not yet heard of the game.”

Give me a break. If video games and video game journalism wants to be taken seriously, they really need to clean up their act. Seriously, ask a random 10 people if they’ve heard of it. I’d be surprised if a single one has heard of GoW.

I think someone is on their periods? He was having a cheap (friendly) stab at MS.

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-25 20:33:45 | Reply

this i agree with, ive been bitching that commercials havent hit primetime tv enough and it pises me off, but thats what this is … this is a TV and MOVIE commercial, the thing is im really praying they actually show it on primetime, a few spots on g4tv is NOT what im talking about!

He wasnt stabbing at microsoft its a fair stab at gaming, their just isnt enough low level advertisment on TV etc for the game, yes fan sites and gaming sites tlak about it but the general casual gaming world doesnt get enough, how about showing …. THIS, THE HDDVD ONE, and the one thats “its about the games idiot” ones … they need to be on TV, why is these awesome commercials are rarely ever seen? They need to be on NBC/FOX/CBS/CW etc during some good shows, get the knowledge of the 360 platofrm out their, it amazing, but its time to really up the advertising!

PS3 advertising is utterly failing and lame every person has said it, after all the ps3 failures now the advertising for it sucking and the low numbers, FIRE BACK WITH A BIG AD CAMPAIGN, you have the ads but people have to get to see it so where are the ads??????

I agree that alot of people still don’t know about GoW. It baffles me that when I gush about it, most everyone says “what’s gears of war?”. To that I say, “it’s going to be the best game since the Halo franchise, just wait until Nov. 7 and you’ll see what I mean.”

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-25 20:34:48 | Reply

Love the commercial but can we atlesat PLEASE see the commercial show up on tv, this and that hddvd one and the “its about games idiot” one need to start showing up alot on tv… i see apple vs pc ads all the time, where are the 360 ones?

http://www.stootsi.com/

They have the vision camera with the bonus stuff and 1 year of xbl gold for 54$ but its only available till thursday at noon!

So that’s what the mini-update did, make Gold-only downloads possible. How sucky. And that to promote something?

actually us older people know Gary Jules didn’t write that song… the original was written by Tears for Fears.

Comment by Number13 on 2006-10-26 00:40:55 | Reply

And it was their second greatest song :)

Comment by jake on 2006-10-26 01:18:34 | Reply

if this is indeed the TV campaign it will run like mad guys.
When Halo 2 came out, I must have seen the spot at least 100 times.
This is the last push before the PS3 eats all the airtime so you can rest assured MS is going to blow a whole lot of dough on a primetime buy..
Don’t surprised if it doesn’t air during Lost tonight. In addition, I have seen the Splinter Cell:DA ads at least 10 times, Dead Rising was all over the air on network, not just cable and World Series of Poker was all over the place.

maybe some of you just don’t watch TV.

It’s not just Germany that won’t be having any emergence day fun - the game isn’t slated for release in the UK until the 18th Nov - 6 days after ED.

Comment by willy on 2006-10-26 18:15:41 | Reply

This is going to be THE GAME, the actual Halo killer comes from the same company! It’s going to be worth every bit of hype!

Comment by willy on 2006-10-26 18:16:22 | Reply

By same company, it’s exclusive to the Xbox 360.
