First ever Halo 3 Scans, lots of new info [Updated]
Finally, some Halo 3 news. Lots of it, actually. A Swedish magazine got all the information on Bungie’s third game in the Halo series and the guys over at the NeoGAF forums were friendly enough to post them. After the jump is information on new weapons, multiplayer, bots, awesome sounding Legendary Edition and last but not least; the scans…
Update: Our friends over at Fok! Games got their greedy hands on a load of high res scans. Way better than the crappy quality we posted before, check it out.
The collectors edition, which is being called the Legendary Edition, will be a four disc set and is a replica of Master Chief’s helmet. The first disc will obviously be the game, the second will be documentaries and Bungie guys talking, the third will be stuff like Red vs. Blue and the forth will be cut scenes from Halo 1, 2 and 3 in HD.
Hyoushi from the NeoGAF forums was friendly enough to translate whatever he could read, here’s what he wrote:
On plot twists

On multiplayer and bots
“Multiplayer has always been important, but it’s developed in a different way which makes it look bigger for every game. We have a base that we always build the MP part on, whereas the SP mode practically has to be built ground-up every time. Xbox Live also made MP in Halo 2 even more important.” –Brian Jarrard“A lot of people ask us about bots. They think that the AI in Halo was pretty damn good, and would work well in MP as well, but it’s really not that simple. The enemies in Halo are optimized for encountering the player in large numbers. They would be a lot worse at abstract thought AI like ‘I have to defend my flag’ and so forth. In short, to create bots for Halo would be an immense undertaking, and we rather put that time into making new levels, weapons and netcode.” –Jaime Griesemer
——New Weapons:
*Spiker: the weapon of choice for brutes.
*Spartan Laser: An anti-veichle weapon, fires a red laser that pretty much destroys any veichle that is hit.New Vehicle:
*Moongoose: The ATV that was supposed to be in Halo 2. It carries 2 people and it doesn’t have any weapons so it’s mainly a means of getting from point A to point B as fast as possible.”from gamefaqs
Swedish magazine level has had the chance to play halo 3 in multiplayer and there are 3 levels which is revealed,
Valhalla = blood gulch, High Ground = Zanzibar, Snowbound = Frost bite.New vehicle - Mongoose, mostly for transport 2 persons.
new weapon- spartan laser, hard to use but extremely powerful vehicle destroyer apparently
- nail grenade, sticks on walls and emits nails into the air.
new weapon - spiker (brute weapon),
your secondary weapon is visible at all times at your back. (THANK GOD!!!)
New transportation system in multilayer- man cannon, launches you into the air through air streams, you can still be fired at and you can fire back.
The X-button will have a special use which Bungie will not reveal.
No bots will come to H3. that will be all.
Bumper buttons can be used to reload both weapons independantly.
The December issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly issue is going to have a whole lot a of Halo 3 coverage too so expect fresh load of info when that hits shelves.

No….It won’t need anything to compete with GOW simply because of the fact that it is Halo 3. Gow won’t….well can’t hinder halo 3’s sales.

Halo 1-whatever is crap. Its a game made for people who can’t aim and need shields because they can’t handle real first person shooter games.

does anyone else think this may just be a good excuse to not being able to have it look really good…. i mean i know there’s a compromise when it comes to this but seriously…they could just say “hey epic knows there shit and we just can’t do it to complex cuz it’ll lose some as well”…
I agree … graphics are key. This doesn’t mean that you have to duplicate GoW’s ‘destroyed beauty’ … but this thing will need to be very purty to the eye. (which, despite these comments, it will … it just might differ in lacking the nuanced detail of Gears)
Nah… i think Halo has a very distinctive visual style, just like he says. Bungie is MORE than capable of making a game look more detailed and realistic than any other game out there. I just happen to like the series the way it is.

Halo is more open where Gears is more closed enviorments. These are the two major differences i see in the gameplay. Sure halo may have enclosed areas and Gears may have outside enviorments, but this is the major difference I see.

everything I’ve seen from Halo 3 and Halo wars looks dope. I wish that Microsoft and Bungie could hold over a deal with a good movie houe distributor. If they could only make a good Movie out of Halo that would be the tits!. As far as multiplayer. Halo and GOW are totally different. First of all, halo is more of a rambo type game, while GOW is almost the opposite. I personally prefer a fast pace game like Halo. Halo gives more control over your character than any other game. That is why halo is the most shooting game. It is because the sense of control and freedom that it gives you. OH yeah, and halo’s visual style keeps it simple and clean. I prefer that for halo because it’s all about the combat. For GOW, detail is good but not for halo.

Hey, you know how there is a new spartan laser gun. Usually, if it is going to be in the multiplayer, than that means you will get to play it in single player. Well how would master chief get such a weapon. Hm, Maybe he will get it from another surviving spartan. I guess we’ll see.

just amagine that halo 3 isnt the end of the franchise, what if there is a new saga of master chiefs life not called halo, there could even be a prequel, a whole new storieline that would be awesom…..
