EA doing the dirty again?
EA have decided to follow many others by announcing a Collector’s Edition of Need for Speed: Carbon. Although the contents included actually aren’t all that bad, isn’t it time EA stopped trying to milk us all out of every penny, and create enjoyable games again?

Included in the CE is the following:
- 4 Exclusive Cars
- 10 Pre-Tuned Cars
- 6 New Races
- Bonus DVD
The title may seem harsh givien what’s included, since it isn’t a bad deal. But I can’t help but wonder how long it is before all the cars and races appear on the Marketplace as seperate items that need MS Points to buy, in turn costing more than if you had bought the CE in the first place.
I also don’t think the game really warrants a CE. After all, there’s nothing really special about the game. It’s not “hotly anticipated” like GoW or Lost Planet, and just seems an excuse to charge £54.99 in order to make a little bit more money. The demo was average at best, and seemed weak in comparison to Burnout. Call me skeptical, but after EA’s last trick of charging for cheats, anything is possible. But hey, if you’re the biggest company in the industry, why can’t you charge for everything, and charge whatever you want for anything?
Thanks to DSK UK for finding this.

You know what?
FUCK EA.
I hear you, but the sad fact is the games industry is heavily reliant on EA and its franchises. The only way to debunk EA would be to replace it with a similar company producing the same cynical games.
I’m sure what you mean. The games industry is heavily reliant on EA? How so? (I’m not saying you’re wrong, just don’t understand.)
*NOT sure what you mean*
Curry, buy an edit button, please?
It’s more to do with retail than the actual industry really, so my bad (even though retail can be said to be an important part of the industry). If you look at GAME in the UK, they are so tucked up with EA that they’ve got instore POS dedicated to them. This is because they realise that they can depend on a steady (if not strong) number of customers buying the Tiger Woods, FIFAs and NFS titles every year. Without this guaranteed revenue stores like GAME would suffer and so what I’m saying is that a company as big as EA would have to fill the vacuum.
And yeah, CE’s are near pointless unless the title in question is a bona fide AAA title, which unfortunately you don’t know until you’ve spent £55 on it. It’s just a way to make people think “Oh, if they made a collectors edition it MUST be good”.
I think what he is saying is what company could replace it in terms of size and overall consistency of franchise games?
I’m afraid that all these Collector’s Edition’d games coming out will degrade the significance of actually owning CE games as a whole.
Very, very true
what the hell is wrong with EA? rather unfriendly remark deleted… keep it proper please without the terminal diseases
ok then, i hope they lose their fingers then. They don’t deserve them
EA is a cancer of the gaming industry. I was considering gettin Army of Two, which I am really looking forward to. But now I am just going to boycott all EA games. Despite how good they maybe. Tired of EA’s BS. If they feel its ok to nickle and dime us and be one of the ‘me too’ editions, well they are not going to get a single penny out of me at all. Really would like to get Army of Two since it looks like an awesome game, but I think R6:Vegas will be my alternative. Plus R6:Vegas is just plain awesome, with smooth controls.
EA has been on the top for quite some time, its time they took a face plant in the ground to realize how much their Shit stinks.
It’s easy to say that. But if Army of Two turns out to be bloody excellent (which I suspect it will be), are you still going to turn it down, even if your friends are all playing it? Can you really say no to a great game, just because of who made it?
If you can, good for you. But let’s wait and see…
To answer that question.. Yes, I can and I will also try to get my friends to boycott them as well. GodFather and its micropayment rape almost what made me want to boycott them, but this really tops the cake. No reason for a CE for a mediocre title. They just want to get a %16 profit increase.
This time I am speaking with my wallent, until they change their tune. Its unfortunate that Army of Two is going to be in the crossfire on this one. But, I say if you have to play it, rent it. It will hurt EA just as bad.
In what regard? Blockbuster will still have to buy a copy of Army of Two for you to rent. Which is another sale for EA.
I can’t stand these “boycotts” of EA products since most boil down to “I’ll boycott them…until the next Burnout arrives. But thats different since its Criteron and not really EA.”
If you don’t like EA, don’t buy their products. Period. No Sims. No Burnout. Nothing that starts up with the EA logo.
Not renting it would not really do anything. EA would have made the profit before the game is put on the shelf, so you aren’t really doing anything except adding another number to how many times the game has been rented. I don’t like EA, but Army of Two looks sweet. I don’t want to not get it just to spite EA. I’d rather have fnu then make little bitch sounds like “erf nerfy eh grumpgrumple bleh.” That’s the sound you make when everyone is playing an awesome game but you.
Need For Speed Underground was very enjoyable, as is the demo for Carbon.
I just keep finding new reasons to boycott EA. I expect profits will keep nose diving for those bastards. This is what happens when giant companies have no clue who their customers are.
EA did the same thing with Most Wanted: Black Edition.
Not surprising they’re doing it again.
I just hacd a throwdown on TXB abotu this very thing. The in-game screens for Medal of Honor just hit there and in more than one screenshot, there’s a huge amount low res textures and smearing… almost in the PS2 level of detail.
EA really needs to listen to it’s customers and stop trying to pump out quantity over quality. The largest dev house on earth and they deliver pure shit 89% or the time.
Who cares! Just don’t buy the crap. Why do people get so worked up over them charging for cheat codes or 10 modded cars? Just don’t buy them. They aren’t holding a gun to your head.
It’s not like Xbox Live suddenly brought on charging for expansion packs and such. I bought Blue Shift and Opposing Forces for the first Half-Life something like 8 years ago. They weren’t cheap and they didn’t offer a ton of gameplay.
It’s a free market economy. If they try this thing and enough people hate it, it will fail. If a lot of people spend their money on the crap, that’s the same as casting a vote “yes” for premium content.
What gets me about EA is that they have games that are half assed. I mean the games could be great, if they completed them and not try to Disney them. And make ‘made for home video’ style games.
I get pissed cause I want their games to be better. Hell the first EA game I bought was Budokan, which I loved, it was a quality game. And a lot of their games show promise, but they keep proving that their games are sub-par 9/10 times. Now with their ‘wallet rape’ business practice, I am finally fed up with the company.
some of you are funny your getting mad at the wrong people miscrosoft is the one who allow charging for extra content i enjoy playing ea games if want the content then ill pay for it if you dont want it then shut up and do nothing plain and simple
No Microsoft allow it onto live to be sold, EA are the ones making the desicion to actually sell it, go and do your homework then get ready for bed, it’s sleepy time.
you dont get it do you? ms is providing the oppurtunity for this sort of stuff do you think if ms didnt want microtransactions youd be paying for it?now go tell mommy im ready for bed
No you don’t get it, just because a facility is provided nobody is being forced to use it.
So EA don’t have to charge but they make the decision so they are responsible, just like if you choose to buy it you are responsible.
So I suppose you would back up the Americans who tried to sue MacDonalds because they were big fat greed fuckers? Same situation really.
So I will go and tell your mummy you are ready for bed, just let her know she can find me in the bedroom when she has finished reading your fairytale.
whatever dude matter of fact is if you hate ea so much dont buy their products I myself like their games and i will continue to buy their games
At what point between this small series of posts was that “the matter of fact”.
The matter of fact is that you were aiming the venom at MS instead of the people that are actually responsible.
So if you are going to argue at least try and understand what you are arguing about.
blah microtransactions are the reincarnation of SATAN!!!
lol
haha did you give up??? The GloV FTW!!
so your all getting pissed off because they make another version with extras?… wow how dare they!
i couldnt care less about ea but i think your taking this a little too far. do you rant about tristar, fox, sony and paramount for making lame ass one disc dvds then releasing collectors ones? no.. then suuudddddup.
I was looking forward to Half Life 2. Mainly for Team Fortress 2. Unfortunately, EA are distributing, which means they will be running the servers. What idiots valve are. The game will be plagued with EA’s servers players out of the games all the time, just like EVERY other EA game server. EA are big there is no doubt. They distribute decent games (can’t say I have enjoyed a game they have actually developed). They ignore how bad their servers are by telling everyone it’s the setting they have in their routers regardless of the fact no-one gets kicked out of other games on Microsofts servers.
So, it’s RIP Team Fortress 2. I don’t hate EA, I hate the compamies that use them.
Boycotting EA……sitting down, buying nuthing from em….Army of Two? “Ohh looks so damn good!!” “Its from EA” “Aww DAYUM!! Fuck Them, I’ll just pick up that copy of viva pinata over that piece of crap!!” Like i said…sittin down, buying nuthing from em, no need for speed, no army of two, no TFortress2, nada. (friend) “ohhhh Carbons the shit, same with Madden.” (Me) “Really? Thats good, but naw, no thanks.” Sittin down and aint buying a damn thang from em. Have fun though guys.
biz as usual 4 EA
Can someone explain why the same game costs 39.99 on the PC, but 59.99 on the 360? It’s definitely not production costs…
The only game so far ive seen that’s actually worth buying is Fight Night Round 3. Can’t believe how lazy they are being by giving us games that just look like xbox ports with a few graphics tweaks. Xbox 360 has so much power and they dont even seem bothered to begin using it.
