Fall update to be released tomorrow [Updated]

Gamefront.de says that Famitsu said that we’re going to get the Fall update tomorrow. This coincides with earlier rumors, claiming the exact same date. The Fall update will contain over 80 additional features including an overhaul for the Xbox Live Arcade and the Marketplace, 1080p and HD-DVD support and more. The report doesn’t say anything about the US and EU release of the update but sources tell us that this is a worldwide release.

Update: WatchImpress has the first pics from the Japanese press conference. WMV streaming via Windows Media Connect, from a CD-R/DVD-R and a USB thumbdrive has been confirmed. Pics after the jump.

Microsoft is holding a press conference in Japan at which additional information will be provided.

We’ll let you know when the update is released.

i see now pics for the marketplace, i only see a pic for the xbox live arcade and the media blade

Yeah we had another image before the update that showed off the new Marketplace graphics, Ninja is commenting on that. I think it’s because the buttons with the images on it weren’t highlighted.

:( its typical, I buy all the latest games, the new dash update is nearly available and my 360 goes and dies.

Microsoft has a bad habit of releasing things when your Xbox is broken, I missed Texas Hold’em Poker for free :’(

YEA! I just had my power brick burn out from an electrical surge!! and this comes out :(
a friend of mine works at vodaphone with a whole team of technicians working for him, he said they can fix it for me tho.. gotta wait a couple weeks :(

Now I want the Dell 24 inch 1920 x 1200 screen real bad :)

If this update isn’t an international release, Major Nelson might not want to go outside for a few days. Anyone remember what happened at the Spring update, where every comment was about the bloody thing? It won’t be pretty.

Comment by InsaneBastard on 2006-10-30 15:01:32 | Reply

Larry won’t mention this until it’s released this time. Of that you can be certain ;)

Comment by A on 2006-10-30 13:45:00 | Reply

lol it will be ok i will just buy a new box, plus its worth it all games £1.60 so whatever

Comment by Stonie on 2006-10-30 13:53:31 | Reply

And it is people like you why Devs cannot be bothered to make games special these days and why we suffer for content in the same way, congratulations to you….

*slow claps*

A new Xbox 360 costs you 400 bucks, that’s roughly around 7 or 8 games. Then there’s the mod, the effort you have to put into downloading and burning your stolen copies. All in all modding is about as expensive as buying stuff legal.

Also: I suggest you stop advertising piracy if you want to continue visiting this site.

Comment by Bongor on 2006-10-30 14:37:39 | Reply

Not eeryone mod their 360 to play pirated games. I’ve purely done it to backup my games and play the backup copies. This way the kids can not screw the originals. I could download ISOs at 7gig a piece but why would I waste my bandwith for a week as I’ll have to upload as well.

hopefully they fixed the language problem in belgium.. (we see 3 languages mixed on our dashboard, french banners, french featured downloads english dashboard but dutch description, we flemish people prefer dutch or at least english only)

Comment by wirbowsky on 2006-10-30 15:06:13 | Reply

Well, i am a french speaking belgian and i also prefer to have english :) (maar ik ga akoord om mijn nederlands te verbeteren door de xbox :) )

Hope xvid support is added. no more transcoding to mpeg. but i don’t think ms will allow it.

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-30 15:45:34 | Reply

They said they’re still considering it but i dont think its coming in this update probably q2 2007’s update….. its more a licensing issue than anything else, but i have a feeling they arent pushing as hard for it since the ps3 isnt gonna have xvid or divx either. Though i really hope we see more support for codecs ont he 360 extender in one of these updates.

Comment by Brian360 on 2006-10-30 14:33:34 | Reply

Microsoft will just start adding the update to future game.So you modders have no way out

Comment by alk3 on 2006-10-30 14:45:27 | Reply

so what if the games require the fall update, has a SINGLE person yet confirmed that this update will re-flash the dvd drive, as i’d like to see how it’s done personally. Reflashed everytime i boot up the 360? Yeah….

Everyone was bricking it with the previous update.. de ja vu, cos we heard all the talk before. and guess what. Nothing happened. It’s all speculation. And as for the worlds first and only banned 360 LIVE member, check out his achievment list. If he isn’t using saved game hacks of some sort to get some of those points then he must be pretty darn good. And rich

Comment by InsaneBastard on 2006-10-30 15:05:03 | Reply

Eh…what are you talking about? It says .wmv in the pictures. Are we looking at the same pictures?

Comment by mazheq on 2006-10-30 15:08:05 | Reply

yes, I was just wondering where can we get (have to convert again?) videos in .wmv format to eatch them normally on our 360s from Cd or connect.. that’s sad there is no xvid support as it was in good ol’ modded first xbox :)

If you also check on this websites pictures (WatchImpress) there is a picture of the HDD storage showing 59.5 GB so does this mean microsoft is going to release a 60GB HDD???

Its is prob from a Dev kit. They have larger HDD.

Cant wait for more info on this update! :)

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-30 15:46:35 | Reply

hehe i know some of these xna games are looking kinda sexy actually im suprised, im a programmer and gotta say its kinda nice seeing games that are homebrew, but i’ve seen a few with actually good looking graphics too hehe

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-30 15:40:22 | Reply

GIVE US DIVX/XVID SUPPORT hehehe… i love the fact they added usb/cd video support it does appear they are listening to my bitching hehe :)

Theirs nothing wrong with WMV, their inherintly small and great quality (hello the hddvd vc-1 codec is wmv and its spectacular) … its just encoding WMV’s takes a while, and xvids are kinda available everywhere lol

Alk3: substandard features that should have been their since day 1? LOL let me guess…a sony fanboy? Eventually features have to be locked and the box has to ship, the fact that microsoft develops and continues to FREELY release upgrades for the units is spectacular, how can you bi*ch about free upgrades that add features?

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-30 15:47:16 | Reply

i hope they add support to move videos from/to the usb

Comment by Raptor on 2006-10-30 16:10:08 | Reply

Just to clarify VC-1 is NOT WMV, its the inverse. VC-1 is an SMPTE standard which WMV3 (windows media 9 codec) implements. So VC-1 is an entire standard that WMV takes part of an implements.

I’ve had DIVX/XVID support on my 360 since Transcode360 came out about 8 months ago.

Comment by mazheq on 2006-10-30 16:02:59 | Reply

of course you had, via xp media center edition :)

Comment by A on 2006-10-30 15:57:53 | Reply

Well hopefully they wont bann our xbox’s and if they do its still ok free games for offline so whatever

Comment by DrDeath 013 on 2006-10-30 16:04:28 | Reply

No, hopefully they will.

A: This is your last warning. Stop promoting piracy or get IP banned.

Comment by InsaneBastard on 2006-10-30 17:47:53 | Reply

What good does that do? In Sweden where I live, the majority of users get their IP’s via DHCP. The number I use today could be used by someone else tomorrow.

I have no problem at all sending IP-logs to ISPs, and I have had several people disconnected by their provider before.

Apart from that I don’t mind banning an entire subnet if need be ;)

Looking forward to this update. I havn’t been able to use Transcode360 since upgrading to Vista RC2. It will be nice to convert to WMV and use Media Connect instead of Media Center as a temporary work around, at least until Vista is fully released.

I wish i could, bloody pal 360s are locked out until the next version of vista at least
