Fall update to be released tomorrow [Updated]
Gamefront.de says that Famitsu said that we’re going to get the Fall update tomorrow. This coincides with earlier rumors, claiming the exact same date. The Fall update will contain over 80 additional features including an overhaul for the Xbox Live Arcade and the Marketplace, 1080p and HD-DVD support and more. The report doesn’t say anything about the US and EU release of the update but sources tell us that this is a worldwide release.
Update: WatchImpress has the first pics from the Japanese press conference. WMV streaming via Windows Media Connect, from a CD-R/DVD-R and a USB thumbdrive has been confirmed. Pics after the jump.
Microsoft will release its “Fall 2006 System Update” on 31.10.06 in Japan, according to a Famitsu report. The update is free and available to all Xbox Live members.
The update, among other things, improves Xbox Live Arcade and Marketplace functions, provides 1080p support, adds a start menu for XNA-developed games, adds HD-DVD player support and over 80 additional functions.
Microsoft is holding a press conference in Japan at which additional information will be provided.
We’ll let you know when the update is released.

Yeah we had another image before the update that showed off the new Marketplace graphics, Ninja is commenting on that. I think it’s because the buttons with the images on it weren’t highlighted.

A new Xbox 360 costs you 400 bucks, that’s roughly around 7 or 8 games. Then there’s the mod, the effort you have to put into downloading and burning your stolen copies. All in all modding is about as expensive as buying stuff legal.

Not eeryone mod their 360 to play pirated games. I’ve purely done it to backup my games and play the backup copies. This way the kids can not screw the originals. I could download ISOs at 7gig a piece but why would I waste my bandwith for a week as I’ll have to upload as well.
hopefully they fixed the language problem in belgium.. (we see 3 languages mixed on our dashboard, french banners, french featured downloads english dashboard but dutch description, we flemish people prefer dutch or at least english only)

Hope xvid support is added. no more transcoding to mpeg. but i don’t think ms will allow it.
They said they’re still considering it but i dont think its coming in this update probably q2 2007’s update….. its more a licensing issue than anything else, but i have a feeling they arent pushing as hard for it since the ps3 isnt gonna have xvid or divx either. Though i really hope we see more support for codecs ont he 360 extender in one of these updates.

Everyone was bricking it with the previous update.. de ja vu, cos we heard all the talk before. and guess what. Nothing happened. It’s all speculation. And as for the worlds first and only banned 360 LIVE member, check out his achievment list. yes, I was just wondering where can we get (have to convert again?) videos in .wmv format to eatch them normally on our 360s from Cd or connect.. that’s sad there is no xvid support as it was in good ol’ modded first xbox

Its is prob from a Dev kit. They have larger HDD.

Theirs nothing wrong with WMV, their inherintly small and great quality (hello the hddvd vc-1 codec is wmv and its spectacular) … its just encoding WMV’s takes a while, and xvids are kinda available everywhere lol

Eventually features have to be locked and the box has to ship, the fact that microsoft develops and continues to FREELY release upgrades for the units is spectacular, how can you bi*ch about free upgrades that add features?

Just to clarify VC-1 is NOT WMV, its the inverse. VC-1 is an SMPTE standard which WMV3 (windows media 9 codec) implements. So VC-1 is an entire standard that WMV takes part of an implements.
I’ve had DIVX/XVID support on my 360 since Transcode360 came out about 8 months ago.

What good does that do? In Sweden where I live, the majority of users get their IP’s via DHCP. The number I use today could be used by someone else tomorrow.
I have no problem at all sending IP-logs to ISPs, and I have had several people disconnected by their provider before.
Apart from that I don’t mind banning an entire subnet if need be

Looking forward to this update. I havn’t been able to use Transcode360 since upgrading to Vista RC2. It will be nice to convert to WMV and use Media Connect instead of Media Center as a temporary work around, at least until Vista is fully released.
