This update is UGLY! the marketplace is UGLY now, and so is the Arcade section… all the buttons are made WAY too big (nog even all 7 subcatagories fit onto my screen but only 6 of `m) and there is this HUGE place for an ad in the marketplace, WICH WILL REMAIN FUCKING EMPTY ON MY XBOX!! I HATE THIS!!

Comment by acromyth on 2006-10-31 15:02:37 | Reply

Yea I always noticed that ads never appeared on my 360, but on some of my friends 360’s, they did. Why is that?

If you have parental control on and are under 18, you will not see any ads.

Comment by luis on 2006-10-31 12:56:24 | Reply

ok first of all to the people saying its ugly, did you not fucking see teh screenshots?

and to those who cant download by putting in game, go to network settings and do the reset thingy, it worked for me.

now my rant, im on a dell 24″ and it wont let me put frikking 1080p is it cause its pal?

Comment by luis on 2006-10-31 12:57:11 | Reply

forgot to mention im running official ms component cables

Comment by hurricanepilot on 2006-10-31 13:28:34 | Reply

are you sure your monitor supports 1080p over component? Some monitors, though they can do the resolution, will only do so over VGA.

your tv or monitor has to support 1980×1024 resolution.. only the newest generation tv’s support that

Comment by The M.A.R.T. on 2006-10-31 14:20:48 | Reply

If he has the 24 inch Dell which does 1920 x 1200 he should be able to get 1080p

That monitor is on sale for 800 euro

Comment by Johnsee on 2006-10-31 14:40:43 | Reply

Also have the dell and don’t get 1080p on componanr but works OK on VGA cable. Coulours are a bit washed out though

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-31 17:27:00 | Reply

oh my lord!!! It has been said, that because of restrictions, most monitors and tv’s DO NOT SUPPORT 1080p over component!!!! Hence the need to use VGA… if you read most of or any of the discussions they said many times, “if you want to be sure your 1080p works, USE VGA”

Comment by The M.A.R.T. on 2006-10-31 18:17:09 | Reply

That’s not true.

It has been said that HD-DVD don’t support 1080p over component.

Dashboard and games should though Chris.

Comment by Glenn on 2006-10-31 14:34:44 | Reply

I did see the screenshots, and I don’t mean that pages, I mean the marketplace pages, when you for instance on marketplace choose for GAMES, you will get a half screen banner on the right, and way to big buttons on the left…

I just think that is ugly, and it was NOT yet shown that they changed it that way

Comment by DrDeath 013 on 2006-10-31 13:09:17 | Reply

Ugly? Bullshit. I thought everythign was good before, but now it seems very clean and better organized. Very nice indeed.

Tried to download the update by starting a game (as mentioned here).

Update Required -> Yes, update
Update is downloaded, Xbox reboots.
When restarting on Xbox-logo, got same question: Update Required -> Yes update
Update Failed -> Can’t download the update
Continue -> Xbox reboots
When selecting No, don’t update i can get to the dashboard.

Testing network connection on System-blade:
Eveything is ok, until it reaches the Xbox Live test: got same question: Update Required.
Selecting Yes, update, it starts downloading the update. But again, when ready downloading: Update failed, and Xbox reboots…

Having the 24 inch 1920 x 1200 screen?

What doesn’t it support. 1080p HD video or 1080p HD dashboard/games?

Comment by luis on 2006-10-31 14:33:40 | Reply

it doesnt support “1080p HD dashboard/games”

theres the option to change it in the settings but the monitor gives error and reverts back to 1080i or previous resolution im using the model “2405FPW ” as far as i know its a 1080p monitor with native res of 1920×1200 so it shoudl showcase 1080p easily, its either MS or DELL at fault..

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-31 17:32:04 | Reply

Make sure to use VGA not component, many monitors and tv’s dont support 1080p over component but work fine over vga

Finally, they sorted the Arcade section out so that they load faster. It was pissing me off when the game I wanted to play always loaded up last. In fact, I love the whole section now.

As a whole, the marketplace seems much better.

Yeah I like the update its a lot better. The whole purpose of it anyway is to intergrate the wireless headset and HD-DVD in there….Im glad the video options have changed and you can play content from any usb enabled device also. It might play movies I have on PSP memory - i must give it a go and check it out

Love the update. Its a lot faster, especially Arcarde. Like the new option about notifications when watching DVD’s. Also the video streaming is awesome.

Got the Gears of War 720p trailers from Gametrailers.com streaming to my 360 of the multiplayer videos and its awesome. So far its the closest thing that I have gotten to see how Gears will look on my HDTV. Only 10 days left till I get it.

Oh if you want to stream video to your 360. Get Win MediaPlayer 11 beta2. And make sure the videos are WMV and its just like the Media Connect as its built into WMP11. Now just got to take time to convert video to WMV with VC1 codec.

Comment by Dawg605 on 2006-10-31 15:10:33 | Reply

Actually, don’t get Beta 2.

The Final version of WMP11 is now out. Go to http://www.microsoft.com to download it.

goshh!! i’m at work n can’t wait to get home…i already converted 3 of my xvid movies to wmv last night…quality kinda sucked!
i’m still looking forward to divx/xvid support in next update!

What is the best program to convert DivX/Xvid to WMV? What version of WMV is best to encode in the the 360? I used to use Videora360, but that does Mpeg2. I was using Transcode360, but it won’t run properly with Vista yet. I actually think I will like this Media Connect/MP11 streaming better, I just need to convert what I have. What program should I use?

Comment by PaulWillocks on 2006-10-31 15:31:55 | Reply

Im well pi$$ed off. I got the red lights of doom on saturday and my 360 is being sent for repair tomorrow. I kept my 360 well ventilated and had a USB notebook fan system for the console to sit on. It never overheated ever and still it breaks! >:(

Comment by The M.A.R.T. on 2006-10-31 15:45:17 | Reply

What has it to do with this update? But well, what’s well ventilated for one person is not that well in anothers view probably.

And the good thing is: MS service is damn good unlike Sony’s ;)

Comment by PaulWillocks on 2006-10-31 16:49:37 | Reply

Its got to do with the fact that the dash update comes out and typically my 360 dies at the same time. And trust me my console was well ventilated, other than encasing it in a block of ice it couldnt be any cooler.

Comment by Chris on 2006-10-31 17:33:48 | Reply

lol well hopefully they will take care of it for you from what i’ve heard their supports pretty solid

But I’m glad they did treath you fast also with the problem

Comment by PaulWillocks on 2006-11-01 12:29:57 | Reply

Its not hard, the link is I dont have a 360 at the moment and I was looking forward to getting the update. Basically my 360 chose the wrong time to die.

Comment by Aift on 2006-10-31 15:46:04 | Reply

Paul.

Maybe the problem isn’t overheating.

And the dash looks more organized and clean… I like it.

Comment by PaulWillocks on 2006-10-31 16:51:30 | Reply

I know, its just most people associate the three red lights problem with an overheating console. Its more to do with a common internal fault found on early 360’s.

Comment by breakup on 2006-10-31 16:07:16 | Reply

I read somewhere that 1080p is through VGA only.

Comment by pp on 2006-10-31 17:09:20 | Reply

and i read in the OFFICIAL site that its in component and vga!

It is both component and vga, but most tv’s only support 1080p over vga, dvi and hdmi.

Comment by BikeRanger on 2006-10-31 16:15:18 | Reply

The codec problem that caused some older (pre-Spring update) videos to skip and pop is fixed.

And Media Player 11 and/or Vista is not required. Video is playing fine for me using Media Connect on Windows XP.

Is anyone with the VGA cable impressed by the DVD-upscaling? My HDTV is 3 years old, no VGA, 1 DVI, and 3 component. I would need to buy the VGA cable (49.99 CAD) and a VGA to DVI adapter (~ $40 CAD) That’s damn close to $100 bucks after taxes. I could throw in a few extra bucks and buy an el cheapo upscaling DVD player with DivX support for that. DAMN! So.. what should I do?

Comment by Netcruzer on 2006-10-31 19:03:38 | Reply

UPDATE - The source has the VGA for 39.99 and a DVI-A male to VGA female for 14.99. That’s reasonable. Maybe I’ll give that a try tonight.

Comment by Bill on 2006-10-31 20:49:05 | Reply

Spend a $139 on an RCA DVD Recorder (check Walmart.com) that upscales and will play pretty much every media type and upscales DVD to 720p and 1080i. That thing is sweet.
