Halo movie postponed indefinitely
We heard a few weeks ago that 20th Century Fox and Universal both pulled out on the making of the movie for financial reasons, and we then heard that Microsoft and Peter Jackson would continue to make the Halo movie “a reality”. Well boys and girls, that reality is no more. A press release has confirmed the worst.
As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of Director Neill Blomkamp’s vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait.
Master Chief has a lot of time to spare now
It doesn’t sound too promising. They say it will take “a little longer”, but I doubt we will be seeing a Halo movie before 2010, that’s if it ever happens of course. The film seems to be a lot of hassle, and cost a lot of money; can anyone justify that? Suffice to say, don’t get all excited about the words “Halo” and “movie” in the same sentence, because it won’t be good news for a while.
So is it worth MS’s time in trying to get the movie back off the ground? Personally I think they should just give it up as a lost cause, the money will put a lot of big companies off. And we all know that game-to-film/film-to-game movies are pretty poor, so why would this be any different just because it’s Halo?

The only reason why the film would work is if they just use the Halo universe and create an original storyline to go with it. But that seems one of the hardest things to do. Anybody can throw money away, but few want to. So when they say what they came up with made two big studio pull out, it doesn’t easy my mind about it being a B-movie.
I really like Halo and I would love to see a great movie about the universe, but if it can’t be great, then don’t do it! That’s just my 2 eurocents…
Why dont they do a animated film like Final Fantasy using the graphics they did in the HalpWars trailer? That looked awsome and it would look more realistic and be much cheaper than having to pay people to act, especially if you get any major names in it.
I thought people wanted a good film? Final Fantasy was shit. Though the animation was cool, but it was obvious that they weren’t real people.

To make one in the style of HaloWars based on the plot would be better , with animation , but not like FF, would be great , do it like a Peter Chung or an action flick but keep it in the style of the Halo Universe

Bad News. I was really looking forward to this after seeing the work that Neill Blomkamp has done. Anybody who doubts how good this movie woould have been should check out his work posted on Youtube. “Yellow” and “Alive In Joburg” are amazing. 20th Century Fox and Universal just lost out, big time.
Well, hopefully we can focus on the game now. Let’s try and get the game really nice and shiny now.

Not a bias. I just didn’t jump on the bandwagon of “ZOMG, HALO MOVIE WILL PWN ALLLL!!11!”. I’m not overly keen on Halo, but the movie could have been good, if serious time was put into it. I just don’t think, after all this, there is any point trying to start it up again. I’m a big fan of Microsoft though.
The movie will move ahead fine. I say no later than 2008. WETA is already on the special effects, and the script has been written. This really won’t set them back that much.

Oh thank the video game gods for they have answered one of my prayers. As I said before in other post, regardless of who directed it, this movie would blow like all the other video game movies b4 it. The fact that it was based on the Halo wouldn’t have made it an exception. As a huge Halo fan along with millions around the world I say this…we have been spared a devastsating blow.
The should consider making a cartoon series like Clone Wars or an animated CGI movie. Would be cheaper.
Animated CG was what I’ve always wanted. In fact, the people at Ensemble who made the Halo Wars trailer should have been hired to do the CG work for it.
I only want a Halo movie in CG. Otherwise, I could potentially see somebody like Vin Deisel or Tom Hanks playing the role as Master Chief, or Paris Hilton as Cortana.

The reason it would be a special game-to-film is because it’s not strictly based on a single game, it’s based on Halo as a whole game universe.

I think that given time the halo movie will pown all game movies before it and it wont be a huge blow that will make us wish that it never happened. I agree with zaksheskyman that we shouldent have huge movie stars acting or doing the voices but make it original with the people who played the characters in the trilogy.
Have none of u read the books read the books and ull wont to make a movie all they got to do is go with the books and make one take some time and do it good…but for god saks dnt show the face it will ruin it all knowin who is behind the mask…
I agree with angel4war, you all seem to be skipping the literature of the HALO universe. That will make the movie filming a hundred times easier. Plus it leaves a lot of space for follow up movies. Catch up on the literature starting with “the fall of Reach” and you will see why. Plus the books go at a perfect pace for making the movies, people will actually get to know the Master Chief and the entire genra will become a blockbuster hit. Harry Potter, Spiderman, and Resident Evil will kiss the ((new rich shiney alloy plated ass)) of the chief when it comes to box office numbers. Angel4war, im with you on your opinion 100% of the way. huraaa man.

But yes like angle said, “John” wasnt really the best of them all, yes he had a nack for luck and all that stuff, technically, he was the best as a child; self sufficient, the ability to be a leader, and strong as hell already. But when it came to the body augumentations, some just grew better than him, but he still was the leader because he knew how things were gonna play out to some degree. Oh and ODST means “Orbital Drop Shock Troopers” you know, the marine special forces in the books. And for all of you who want an example of them, you remember that level on halo 2 where they finally find the second ring and send in the chief on a drop pod. Well the guys your with are ODST. Just thought you would like to know. Lol, game reviewers thought they were spartans as well hah. ODST stands for orbital drop shock trooper. more comminly known as “helljumpers” John isnt the last spartan either. there are currently four halo books out. fall of reach, the flood, first strike, and ghosts of onyx. they are very good books.

hey, i just realized. on the halo 2 stratagy guide, if you look on the inside of the cover, ther is a picture of a dead brute with the Chief airbourne. i was wondering, if they can make pictures that good, then why not use pictures like that to make an animated version of halo with the same detail…..hey, not saying its a good idea, but im throwing it out there.
Well Dylan that would seem like an ok idea its just that animated movies come so easy these days, unless they are like the quality of the 1st cartoon movie of the animatrix, you know the last flight of the osirus. But the thing is that if that happens, fans will feel cheaped out even if it is kick ass film… They want real actors and people behind the scenes. And if they make an animated film first, then all the rest will have to be animated as well. Otherwise people are going to be like WTF!!! can we stick with the program here. The overall problem is that halo requires too huge a budget for most motion picture creators to really dig far enough into their pocket for it. And if you have to many partners to break down the price tag, then you have a conflict of intrest on how the film should be made. Well i guess its safe to say that if they are making that good a quality commercial for a game with real actors and equipment then i would say that the movie is doing pretty well right now. Otherwise they wouldnt of made the commercial if they had to do it without the technical experience, so think its already started.

fan 67, we could all agree to what you say to some degree, but we said all that a long time ago. And….how old are you, well either your 9 years old or can’t completely speak english. Anyway in all likelyhood the massive sellout of the halo 3 game I believe will be the final push needed to really get the movie on track, if Universal hasn’t already taken advantage of a contract then I can almost guarrentee that they are seeing the dollar signs now. Bungie needs a new project to work on for halo in order for people to still be buying the books too. So they have to keep the genra from fading from memory in order to get the entire story out and move on, the movies are the key to all this, not to mention the online multi-player, which they seemed to work on uber hard in order to keep people on for years to come. I havent read the 5th book yet so if anybody knows more then please correct me if the series has ended. the halo books (mainly the 1st one, “The Fall of Reach”) show John (better know as Spartan 117, or Mastercheif because if his rank… CPO) as and kid… so it would show his face if the movie was based off the books. I think that showing his face as a kid wouldn’t ruin anything at all….. though, since the book described him, I pretty much can guess what he looks like… (in the beta, it shows his face= WHAT A BLOW), I think it would be cool to base the movie off of the point of views of many of the other, somewhat, 2000 (counting the secret Spartan- III project) Spartans (not all of them of course). Like, for instance, from Fred’s point of view, or Kurt’s or Kelly’s…. SOME OTHER IMPORTANT SPARTAN. And if you read the most recent halo book, Ghosts of Oynx, there is a major cliff hanger there. It would be cool if they could get out and John find them (a good Halo 4 story line… sort of). I dont think a Halo 4 will come out though, with Halo Wars and all that, but if they could finish the damn cliff hanger at the end of Halo 3 (i’m sure you’ve all beaten it by now…).

yea, I think that basing the movie on another persons point of view would be a good idea.( agreeing with wtf) but yea,there is a bunch of stuff that they have just left hanging, even in the books. like, it never truly says what happened to CPO mendez. and, it never told us what truly happened to the rest of the spartan 2’s ( reffering to fred, kelly, and the gang.) and, if you watch the credits after the game on halo 3, you will sort of see what happens to the master chief. *hint* it leaves a lot of questions, that will make you want to know.
And, just going out on a limb, I personally think that they should make another game, like halo wars, and by that, i mean a fps based in the time of 2525 with humanities first encounters with the covenant, and that you should be a marine, like corprol harland ( in the books) or sargeant johnson. like i said, just going out on a limb, and it would be a real challenge. i mean that by NO ENRGY SHIELDS. just the shitty marine ballistics armor. i personally think that it would be a good cahs crop for bungie, it would keep halo fans buisy, and it would provide more ideas for the movie.
