First Need for Speed: Carbon DLC available

EA, who else, released the first load of downloadable content for their annual Need for Speed upgrade on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The game didn’t even warrant a Collectors Edition but if you were smart enough to not buy it you can now upgrade for only 800MP with ‘The Collectors Edition Upgrade’, just as we predicted. There’s a bunch of other stuff that should’ve been in the game in the first place too, complete list after the jump.

EA Ports
Stolen from this Penny Arcade comic
  • The Collectors Edition Upgrade - 800 Points
  • Performance Drivetrain Bundle - 400 Points
  • Performance Engine Boost Bundle - 400 Points
  • Performance Handling Bundle - 400 Points
  • Ultimate Performance Bundle - 800 Points
  • Muscle Car Autosculpt Body Kit - 300 Points
  • Autosculpt Tuner Body Kit - 300 Points
  • Autosculpt Exotic Body Kit - 300 Points
  • 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 - 80 Points
  • 2004 Lamborghini Murcielago - 80 Points
  • 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 - 80 Points

Seriously what is wrong with this company? Why does Microsoft allow them to release this shit in the first place? This is all stuff that should’ve been in the first place. There’s no reason at all why we should be paying for stuff that was available for free last-gen and probably still is in the last-gen versions. The only way to stop this is to vote with your wallets and stop buying into this shit. Each time one of you buys into this is another ‘hey we’re ok with this shit, steal some more money from me with your next annual upgrade’ signal to EA.

Update: Welljasona discovered that the downloads are only 108KB in size, this means that you’re paying for stuff that’s already on a disc you own but is locked until you pay some more. This shit is ridiculous. This has to stop.

Second Update: Apparently I was a bit premature with my rant. It appears that all the stuff, except for the Collectors Edition Upgrade, are unlockable by playing the game. Another case of paid cheats, which are bad but not as bad as making content completely unavailable unless you pay. My advice to not buy into these kinds of deals still stands; don’t fall for schemes like these.

Thanks for posting this on our forums Thugboy4!

Are you serious, I will never buy an EA game anymore! Ban EA!

Comment by SidearmS on 2006-11-01 18:51:08 | Reply

Just as a guideline, ANYTIME you see that wonderful 108.XX KB file, it will ALWAYS be an “unlocker” file.

Seriously, look for this, and you know if you have purchased the newest 360 lemon title.

But this is EA, and I won’t be buying this or anything from them anytime soon.

And guess what fans? Here comes FIFA 2007 for the 360 next…

Comment by The_Glovner on 2006-11-01 19:40:54 | Reply

FIFA’s still cool but fuck them, their families and anyone who has ever came into contact with them.

Going to have to put on the night vision an go in to take these criminals out the fucking game!

Comment by Glenn on 2006-11-01 18:52:25 | Reply

WTF, What is EA trying to do?! WHY?? WHY!?!
(happy for me I don’t own any EA games at all :P muahhahahaa)

Microsoft need to put an end to this now. The xbox 360 would be better off without EA than they are with the money grabbing ripoff artists that we see at the minute.

The only one that can stop this is MS or you guys. As long as you keep paying and as long as MS allows EA to rape you they’ll continue doing it.

Comment by Hoffer on 2006-11-01 20:27:52 | Reply

It’s not rape if you concent to buying the stuff.

Well I don’t consent to them locking stuff out that’s already on my disc only to sell them to me later for additional money.

Comment by illuminate on 2006-11-01 18:58:53 | Reply

All the stuff there is stuff that you unlock anyway during the course of the game, all they do is unlock the stuff so you can use it right away. Which is still just as wrong, when I’m going to go through the game and beat it properly and earn the achievements myself, but meanwhile with these things someone can just go and buy all the engine upgrades and a Skyline right off the bat, and breeze through the game no problem, getting achievements even though they’re still kin dof cheating by unlocking the best stuff right away, making te goa a ton easier.

Comment by El $corpio on 2006-11-01 18:59:54 | Reply

Fucking bastards at EA…

I noticed that too, it’s just unlocks! Those motherfuckers want you to pay extra to get cars and tracks that should have been included already!!

Don’t even start with the damn cheats…

unlock full performance parts: $10
play the game fairly and beat it: priceless

Comment by Sam Jackson on 2006-11-01 19:04:25 | Reply

That’s a god damn mid day rip off !
Unfortunately, some idiots will actually buy this sort of crap ):

Comment by exception360 on 2006-11-01 19:06:36 | Reply

Next step, not yet confirmed:

Buy a game, put disc in 360, and go to Marketplace to download the unlocker for 2100 points, otherwise you can only enjoy the title screen…

Comment by hurricanepilot on 2006-11-01 19:11:47 | Reply

I appreciate MS can’t really deny EA the right to put what they like up on the marketplace, but Gears of War would have failed certification if they’d put in the ability to join up with your mates and earn achievements in ranked matches. Surely marketplace downloads that fasttrack you to achivements, or in any way make it easier to achieve them, should also not be allowed?

MS is just as guilty as EA. They allow this shit to happen and they can deny EA what they release within a split second.

Comment by J1980 also welljasona on 2006-11-01 19:12:28 | Reply

Yeah I really can’t believe that the collectors edition upgrade I purchased is already on the disc that I paid for. I was alright with the EA golf upgrades because it’s basically a cheat - but to pay 800points for extra levels and 10 extra cars that are already hidden in the disc is a piss take. THAT really should be my last EA game for sure, but I doubt it will be. I should just NOT buy marketplace upgrades its a rip off…

Comment by Lotus 111s on 2006-11-01 19:50:16 | Reply

I didn’t notice in that list a ‘Fix the Framerate’ DLC which would of been nice or even maybe a ‘Decent control of Cars’ DLC because belive me this plays SOOOOO much better on my PC it’s like it is two different games. I personally will avoid all EA games with shit like this happening if possible. Trouble is they have the monopoly and so much cash they just buy company’s for fun like Criterion just so they can get good games like Burnout. Damn sad really.

Comment by SidearmS on 2006-11-01 19:57:23 | Reply

Just remember, anything in the future will get this treatment, even Burnout.

The days of fair play in the console arena are gone. So my money must follow? I don’t think so. I will just play games from companies that DO NOT use these methods on XBL.

And good lord, is SCDA really hard…

3940 points in dlc WTF??????????????????????

i will never buy a EAss game ever again

Comment by WhetWurm on 2006-11-01 20:48:29 | Reply

Holy Fucking Shit. Forgive my outburst… but the DLC for this game costs the same as the FULL retail Xbox1 version!!! WTF is going on with EA? Are the trying to find out just how goddamn dumb EA fans are?!? Please someone tell me that this is a repeat “pay to beat the game” phenomenon like Tiger Woods. Please. I swear to god if they fuck with Burnout 5 like this, I’ll file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau…

Comment by DaffyDuck on 2006-11-01 20:48:46 | Reply

$60+50 for a game? What I like the most is that performance upgrades are not included into the regular game, so you will be owned online by those who bought upgrades. EA rocks, I wish I worked for them, probably would be driving Ferrari by now :D

Comment by WhetWurm on 2006-11-01 20:49:08 | Reply

EDIT: 3940 MSP = $49.25 USD.

Comment by Voyager2k on 2006-11-01 20:54:57 | Reply

Why do you all get so upset about this ? The game is extremely SHITTY aka “Need for Frames per Second: Blurr Some more instead”

I rented it this morning and already returned it, told my friend at the rental store to check it out with me because it’s way too shitty to even charge customers …. guess what he did … he returned 10 copies of the game to their distributor and refunded me :)

Seriously, the demo makes the game look GOOD because there is no free roam in the demo. Even in free roam the controls suck bad, the blurr is unbearable and the framerate drops are just ridiculous. I’ve rarely ever seen such pos game. It makes Import Tuner Challenge shine like a bright sun. I really wonder how much EA paid all those “reviewers” who rate it at like 8.2 - 8.5 … there must be some serious cash flow somewhere because honestly … even a 4.0 would be way too generous for this pos. Most wanted was great, this is just junk.

And seeing EA offering DLC for nearly 4k M$ points already just makes me laugh out loud.

M$ needs to put QA back in place.

you all are pussies and morons if you read carefully it says you can purchase these upgrades if you dont want to unlock it in the game its there for purchase or if you like you can advance in the game and unlock it for free you know what im tired of is people like you complaining about ea doing this ea doing that what about the “other”companies doing this you fail to mention them why is this cuz ea is an american company?

why is this cuz ea is an american company?

Haha thanks, I LOL’d.

He’s right, we dislike American companies! Thank God Microsoft is Dutch! :+

lol

Comment by WhetWurm on 2006-11-01 21:08:22 | Reply

Your fantastic english aside… the “other” companies you reference are not offering a “pay to beat the game” program. Who in their right mind would pay $110 NOT to play a game. That’s just retarded. But EA is setting a precedent that we wish to nip in the bud. Oh, and EA is no longer just an American company; it’s an international conglomeration. Let’s leave the nationalism out of this.

Comment by DETROIT20LIONS on 2006-11-01 21:18:54 | Reply

sorry did i strike a nerve my point is that you as a comsumer dont have purchase this stuff just play the game and unlock it maybe i got carried away with the american comment but what about other devs doing it?i dont hear any complaints about other devs doing it

Comment by J1980 also welljasona on 2006-11-01 21:37:20 | Reply

you are the bigger moron detroit. The collectors edition upgrade for 800 points is in the actual disk and not unlockable without paying the 800 points- you can not unlock this in game!!

Comment by teknomusik on 2006-11-01 21:10:03 | Reply

I doubt having all the upgrades will make the game easier; in fact it might make it harder. The cpu cars always seem to match your car performance wise, and are usually pretty damn cheap. Even so I still won’t be buying any of the marketplace crap for this game.

They make us pay for something that’s already (locked) on the disc…. that’s wrong in so many ways.

Comment by Bill on 2006-11-01 21:54:24 | Reply

Fucking ridiculous.

Nobody buy any of this shit, and nobody even buy any EA games. I’m definately fucking not.

Comment by DaffyDuck on 2006-11-01 22:13:28 | Reply

Comparing to this Lumines looks like a good deal :) New era of gaming - buy the game and after that buy it again to unlock it. Are those the only two games where unlocks cost the same as what they call a “full” game?

Whoa this is SO fucking cheeky. I wonder how many people will fall for it?

someone should add to the petition, they need to finish a game before they sell it for $60. if anyone has played battlefield for xbox and xbox 360, they would know that they did not finish many of the multiplayer maps in the 360 version.

The controls are great, I played most NFS Most Wanted so much, Carbon felt second nature. I’d give NFS Carbon a solid 9 out of 10.

Comment by jJbcarey on 2006-11-02 13:54:11 | Reply

Well, I’d have to say as much as I like the NFS series, I’m not going to buy this one…

Comment by TheOtherside on 2006-11-02 14:27:06 | Reply

The content is optional too buy, as you can read on the majornelson website apart from the collectors edition pack. All the other content is unlockable while playing the came in carreer mode. So you get what’s on the disk. But if you wan’t to take a “shortcut” you can buy the unlockables for a amount of money and you can play directly with it.

Comment by 1fastteg on 2006-11-03 22:00:39 | Reply

all of that stuff can be unlocked in the game (if you read the description at the on the right in marketplace it says “can be unlocked in game)

its just a shortcut for people that don’t want to have to wait and unlock the stuff the normal way. You might want to read that next time

Comment by Assi9 on 2006-11-04 03:22:51 | Reply

You don’t have to buy it dumbasses you use points that you already have from playing games all day and night because you don’t have jobs.

Comment by Blahamkmlam on 2006-11-05 12:26:43 | Reply

It’s not the cost, it’s the principle you ass.

Presumably you’re a gamer? If you just let stuff like this slide then it will eventually end up effecting games you enjoy aswell.
