For all you Halo fans out there #2
As I told you earlier, thanks to 1UP, there’s going to be much info in the coming weeks regarding Halo 3. Today they come with some new info about probably the most important aspect in the Halo franchise: Lets get into the depth of the multiplayer mode. They got their hands on 3 multiplayer levels, we bring you the newest facts sorted out after the jump!
Snowbound:
Look of the map:
- Snow level
- 2 Bases on either side of the map
- Tunnels beneath connecting them, with a shotgun in the middle of explosive fusion coils ($8000 dollar/s lamps)
New features:
- Auto firing turrets, see the draft below, this is a new of getting killed by the environment (like the train from Halo’s Terminal map)
- Shield Doors, you can see and walk trough them, but explosives or bullets can’t pass trough
High Ground
Look of the map:
- Much like Zanzibar from Halo 2, with a beach and a High Ground base
- There’s a turret, vehicles on both sides, a shotgun, sniper rifles, everything needed for a good CTF or assault game
New features:
- Destructible environments to gain alternate routes to get in the base
- Spike Grenades! (read more below)
Valhalla
Look of the map:
- 2 Bases on each side, with a river in between
- Two elevated platforms with lots of weapons
New features:
- Contains the brand new Mongoose ATV vehicle (read more below)
- Contains a Spartan Turret (read more below)
- The Man Cannan, which can even launch the Mongoose or the Warthog while driving it
New info about weapons and stuff…
The ‘new’ assault rifle:
In Halo: Combat Evolved, the assault rifle had the following specs: It had a 60-round clip, was fully automatic and not effective at long range. This has changed quite a bit, the new assault rifle will have a 32-round clip, will still be fully automatic, but much more effective at long range.
Completing the Brute weapon collection:
After the Brute plasma rifle, and the Brute shot, we get some new brute weapons in Halo 3. The Spike Rifle and the Spike Grenade. The Spike Grenade basically is a combination between the two grenades we already know, it has lots of spikes sticking out of it, they grab onto a surface, and blow a “thin cone of energy”, enough to kill if used correct.
The Mongoose ATV:
It’s designed for racing someone from A to B, it is the fastest vehicle available. If you want to enter it says “Press RB ro ride Brokeback”, which is part of Bungie’s idea of the new controller layout. They are still looking for a way to counter this car. The Bungie team is not yet sure what to do with the rocker launcher, because the lock-on feature was too overpowered for ground vehicles.
The Spartan Laser:
This weapon will have a 3 second delay before it fires a thin red laser beam which completely obliterates when it hits. It’s mainly anti-vehicle, but also functions great as an anti-personnel weapon. The kills are saved as sniper kills, I personally hope they change that, cause sniper kills are seen as pro kills instead of kills with an anti-vehicle weapon…
Stay tuned for more updates!

i think i just SHAT my pants
I don’t really see a need for another frag grenade, I would like some kind of flashbang or smoke grenade though.
I think they could still call the spartan laser a sniper kill seeing as it takes 3 sec. to fire a shot, this will be very difficult to time correctly and could be considered a pro weapon, it sounds like the rail gun out of Quake 3 arena but with 3 secs sounds more difficult to use. Usually in Halo 2, 3 sec is more than enough time to be killed once spotted by an enemy.
The best chance of using it will be at a distant and hence a sniper kill, in Q3A using the railgun was considered a sniper kill.
good to hear news about good o’ll halo3
good news
This is going to be the best game ever.
wow!, this makes me very excited!
So does anyone know if the enviroments are fully destructable? It says:
New features:
Destructible environments to gain alternate routes to get in the base
Spike Grenades! (read more below)
Maybe it’s just certain spots, but it would be cool if you could tear a map apart.
It could end up a right mess after a long 100 kill deathmatch with rocket launchers though.
spike grenade- sweet!
shield doors- sure no bullets or explosives, but what about vehicles?
automatic turrets- nice. those outta be fun to mess around with
