Best Buy to offer 360s instead of PS3s

If you are planning to wait in line for a PS3 at Bestbuy this coming week in America, you will have hopefully prepared yourself for the worst. That is, not getting a PS3. But fear not, because you will be offered possibly a better deal: a 360 with a few games thrown in.

A launch deal is being offered. A Premium 360 package and three games, with the third one being free. There is no specific details at this point, so I can’t tell you if you get to choose the games or whether you get crap old ones. But include Gears, Splinter Cell and CoD3, and the PS3 will probably go unwanted.

With Sony only shipping 400,000 units of the PS3 to America, there is sure to be dissapointment across the country. Many stores will only be getting 10 to 15 units, and if Bestbuy are only getting small shipments, they can expect a lot of people to snap up this deal, if only to sell it on for a profit.

This…

…or this?

So will you be waiting in line for a PS3 or a 360? I can see a lot of people turning up deliberately late, not getting a PS3 but getting a great deal on a 360 instead. Let us know your plans!

Wow, I have had a 360 since launch, and played it like crazy and it has never crashed. Most of my friends have now also bought 360s since they became more plentifull, and none have crashed. So what are you talking about Julio?

I would say that in any case, buying newish hardware is more risky, which is why there is an extended guarantee… 40$ for 2 years from microsoft!

And I wouuld have the same problem with a PS3… We don’t know how much they will crash either do we? :p

bcoz u r a lucky bastard!
i’m on my 3rd 360 which is also dying. i’ve already called xbox support n i’m sending my 360 again to their repair center..
i didn’t buy GoW coz of this sh*t!
if it’s not happening to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to other people! n yeah i can’t wait to hear from you when your 360 dies!

Heh! History tends to repeat itself Steve. Where were you during the PSOne and PS2 launches. Ever since the industry moved to disc media from carts, there have been all manner of malfunctions with the first production run of consoles. And the failure rates were documented by the complaints submitted across game forums during the launches of various consoles.

And to early adopters of PS3? You might offer the “…just buy an extended warranty…” solution. But the problem here is there are nowhere near enough PS3s to go around from the launch date(next week) until when? Next Spring? That’s when the UK is finally getting their first production run batch.

Do you know what EB will be telling consumers who have their extended warranty receipt in their hot little hand if/when their PS3 fails?…

“Sorry, our instructions are to have you call Sony. They are supplying the consoles and we don’t know when we will get enough extra to replace your unit.”

History often(I’d say almost always) repeats itself. Why set yourself up to be burned for $600+ right from the start? Patience you need. Serve you well, it will!

i dotn get it my 360’s never died or had issues… ok it did once but that was my fault for not plugging the av cable in lol….. and my buddy has never had an issue with his either….

this deals gonna be killer especially if the 2 games are Gears of War and Viva Pinata hehe

I’ve had an xbox360 since launch and never had a problem, I bet all these crashing consoles are caused by people not leaving enough room for their xbox to stay cool……

It sounds like some of you guys have JUST NOW heard about dying 360’s. Ive had mine since April and not a single problem. that doesnt mean that I’m safe. When it’s your systems turn to give out…it will. that goes for PS3, 360, Wii, iPods, and just about anything electronic.

My console died last week.

The eject and white button trick (makes ring of lights flash error code) told me it was a memory problem. As luck would have it Virgin Megastore UK had no problem exchanging it and even let me swap out the HDD.

After I had the three red lights of death I looked it up on the Xbox forums and it seems it’s happened to a few people.

ps3 on ebay!! im doin it!!

No more launch systems for me, I learned my lesson from this 360. Haha………..I’ll wait until the price comes down or there is that game I just have to have.

GOW was a rip off with the single player. It was like playing 50% of the game. Yeah the graphics were great and all, but come on, this was the most hyped 360 game. It didn’t seem to have the depth that a “next gen” game should have.
