Gears of War patch in the works [updated]

Even though Gears of War was the first ever game to receive the highest achievable score of 10 on Xboxic it has some connection issues, according to some. Gamers have reported to receive “connection lost to host” while they don’t get similar errors with other games. Luckily Epic has acknowledge the problems and announced to be working on a patch.

Update: Apparently Epic jumped the gun, the original post is gone. Contents are still after the jump though.

BUGS!

Epic forums moderator ‘Fufu’ responds to a gamer’s outcry by stating that “…a patch is in the works to address the connection issues as well as several other bugs that have been reported. not sure on an exact eta, but it won’t be long…”. We don’t have a clue on how long that could be but we hope they can fix the problems before the European Gears of War release date this Friday. We wouldn’t want to experience the absolute horror* of these issues.

*please note added level of sarcasm

Great game, but they need to completely redo the ranked matchmaking system.

I really hope the Epic keeps on top of this gamer with refreshes/updates/patches the way Bungie has (attempted to) with Halo 2.

GoW has all the making of a game that i’d love to still be playing and enjoying 9 months from now, but there’s currently enough in the way of small bugs and glitches to concern me …

If they keep on top of improving the game experience, then Epic will keep us hooked (which, obviously, is in their longterm interests, too).

Oh, yeah … and, obviously, this is a good start as such … I hope they keep at it … especially regarding improvements to the matchmaking/lobby system.

The patch needs to address the rampant cheating that is going on in ranked matches as well. It is really frustrating.

Yep … this is the way to keep the franchise strong and ensure that we’ll continue to drop $$ on DLC and the like … in the meantime, for some friendly non-cheating custom play, send me a FL invite (GT: geekinabox)

Cheating is inspired by Online achivements and leaderboards. No games should have online acheivments. I like leaderboards but something needs to be fixed and I don’t know what.

I disagree. Cheating will always be around no matter what you try to do. I remember playing the first SOCOM game for the PS2, and seeing people cheating online with the aid of a Gameshark. The only way to significantly cut back on cheating in Gears would be to have a ranked match system similar to the one Bungie had for Halo 2 where you don’t see who you’re playing with until the game is starting. This combined with not being able to enter ranked matches as a team would help a lot in my opinion.

What cheating are you talking about? I haven’t encountered any cheating at all and I’ve played lots of ranked matchmaking.

Ignore my last comment. I just read an article on 360 Fanboy about the cheating that is going on. I thought you meant glitches. I already knew about people stacking teams, which sucks. Link to article: http://www.xbox360fanboy....d-with-cheaters/#comments

nice. btw, you might want to close the latest html tag in your post (the small text). Comments are now very small here :P

fixed

i just hope the patch doesn’t take as lon as Saints Row, COD2 or Prey (Did the patch ever come out?)

The whole connection issu isn’t so much of an issue. Once you’re in a game you stay in.
Alot better than Graw for instance.

But it can be slightly annoying trying to get into games, nothing horrible though.

PLEASE FIX THE LOBBY , finding games is too slow and cumbersome. I would love to see clan support too.

HTML TAG! Thought it was my eyes - thank God for that! Epic were always very good at supporting Unreal Tournament games on the PC so I expec great things.

Hehe sorry, consider it patched ;)

Wow, thats pretty snazzy. A patch already? :D

MORE HOST OPTIONS!!!!! Like bans change from private to public, on the fly weapon changes between matches, and please please god on the fly map change from the lobby…WHY GOD WHY!!!! My only big complaint…still a fucking awesome specimen of a game

The online cheating can be stopped if the Hosts GT wouldnt show up as the room name. That would prevent the hosts friends from joining his room and stacking teams. It would be a 50/50 chance that theyll get into their friends room specifically. Just a thought.

Agreed… that’d be huge ….

Better yet: why show a host list @ all ??? Let me choose my desired gametype, & then just find me a game (like a certain other popular XBox shooter … name escapes me at the moment :) ) … what’s the use in my choosing from a host list? I want to game and I want a lobby/MM system to get me in a game.

I’d say it’ll be out sometime this or next week

Comment by NavyStorm PR on 2006-11-13 20:47:18 | Reply

Finally cause that happens to me all the time in GOW

Comment by Indigo X on 2006-11-13 21:13:07 | Reply

I hope they won’t add the option of changing maps from the lobby.
When I find a game with a map I prefer I hate going into a lobby to see the host change it to something else.

It’s good as it is.

its kinda weird how hyped game gets 10/10.. and it still got problems..review writer in bandwagon with hype??

http://wiki.xboxic.com/Xboxic:Scoring

Read what it says at 10 and underneath.

Epic has their Quality Assurance team working on Gears until late December, so it might be a while before we see a patch. I’m still hoping for one in the next week.

Yeah the game is the best game out there, but their matchmaking need to be redone to compete better with Halo 2
