Nyko to replace your fried 360 [Updated]

Nyko has finally responded to the problems that showed up a few weeks ago. People were complaining about their Intercooler seriously damaging your 360. Nyko now have said they will replace them if you can “upon first hand verification that the Intercooler 360 caused the system to fail”.

Seriously torched Xbox 360

” Recently, a story appeared online claiming that the Intercooler 360 is damaging Xbox 360 consoles. Although it looks as if the story came from an isolated incident, NYKO takes any such claims seriously. It is possible that a defective unit caused damage in the incident, however it is impossible to confirm this is the case without inspecting the unit first hand and performing tests on the hardware. Any number of reasons from a power spike, to using the Xbox 360 without a surge protector could have caused damage.

Nyko stands by its products 100% and is confident in the Intercooler 360 and its reliability as a safe and effective means of lengthening the life of the Xbox 360 console.

While a small percentage of all products suffer from defects, the total defect rate for the Intercooler 360 is well under 1%, which is less than half of the average for consumer electronics products. All consumer products will suffer from a small number of defects, and Nyko is extremely proud of the low defect rates for the Intercooler 360. For those consumers who feel they have received a defective product, Nyko will replace both the damaged Intercooler 360 and Xbox 360 console upon first hand verification [confirm] that the Intercooler 360 caused the system to fail.”

But how are they going to check this? Do they seriously think that people are going to send their 360 in (at their own expense see update) and hope that they judge in their favor? GWN concludes that it’s best to stick with Microsoft’s advise on this one: Only use licensed Xbox 360 accessories.

Update: Nyko has requested us to emphasize that they will pay for all shipping costs involved in inspection of damaged Xbox 360s. Our first statement was thus totally wrong, oops. Now that’s service!

Thnx to Roy Johnson for letting us know.

Well the 360 is fried at that point, what’s to lose but 20 more bucks by sending it in? There is no ‘hope’ to it, it’s logic, if your system was fried by this device, they WILL replace it.

At least, that’s the attitude I’d enter the situation with… (because I wouldn’t exit the situation w/o a fixed 360.)

Some system might still operate when fried a bit ;)

Totally agree. If the 360 is overheating, its a hardware failure. And the 360 is far from hardware-perfect; the noise, the heating, the largest powersupply in the history. If we are to solve all these hardware flaws by buying extra stuff, then its a shitty product. Who wants to pay extra for a silencer(!), a cooler, a smaller powersupply???

Um…your statments are bullshit because my 360 never gave me any problems and I still went out and got one of these in the summer time just for ADDED protection. I’d rather be safe than sorry. Try not being narrow minded jerks.

I totally agree with you. I have a laptop cooler for my 360 just for piece of mind. Although it didnt stop my first 360 dying on me and my second one scratching my Rockstar Table Tennis CD to pieces. Microsoft would have an amazing product if they recalled all 360’s and fixed every known issue.

Because of summertime you felt your 360 would die? I play in a room with a fireplace, and it’s been getting toasty lately.

If my XBOX died because I used a fireplace… As with above, I would enter the situation (when I called Microsoft) knowing that I deserve, and would obtain, a new XBOX.

The original nyko fans (the ones with the manual switch and packed in bubble pack) caused soem red rings of death. Buy the fans in the cardboard box (no manual on/off switch) I had the original fans and got the rings. I have the new style now and have no problems. I bought them again because GOW and COD3 make my 360 run so hot the internal fans squeal and have locked up twice on COD3. After I put the new style fans on I haven’t had any more lock ups and the system runs considerably cooler.
