Cars demo up on Marketplace
Major Nelson tells us a Cars demo just showed up on marketplace in some parts of the world. You’re lucky if you don’t live in Asis, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway and Swizterland. The rest of the world is free to download it right now, as long as you have Xbox Live Gold. Silver members need to wait a bit longer (again).
The Demo weighs 453.17MB and Major Nelson gives the following description:
Comic Mischief Race as Lightning McQueen through Radiator Springs at high-speed! Or tip tractors as Mater - just don’t let Frank catch you!

It’s a good thing I PAY for Live, therefore I SHOULD get things first. As for content being worldly available right away….yea it probably should be.
wow everyone talkin about gold and silver imnot sure the difference but if its sumthing about crappy multiplayer on silver get gold its great faster demos is all i kno that came out….p.s.(only one person talked about this game? wow it must really suk)
this service was promised to both silver and gold users at launch. i am a gold member, and i love my mp, but why should we get a free demo before others that were also promised this demo. and for those bitching about bandwidth being wasted on silver members, i can guarantee to you, if you get slow downloads from xbox live, it is YOUR bandwidth. i get a gig in about 10 minutes.
so why do we not share with our silver brethren?

Thanks man, I think you’re right. I’m just a puny Silver user, because my network keeps flipping and thus my 360 doesn’t always have internet. I just don’t understand why they do this. To give the Gold members an extra bang for their buck?
That’s stupid ’cause the Silver members get the same content, but now MS just makes them mad because they have to wait longer for it.
It’s a negative way of approaching things. If they want to give the Gold members something more, then give them something more. Like free gamerpics, just for Gold members, Silver can get them to but have to pay. Things like that. But MS wouldn’t want to miss out on the possible money they don’t get from making those things free.
I’m personally glad my £40 a year is netting more of a premium service than it was.
Up til recently, All I got was a matching service, Now I get ‘exclusives’ and feel all important.
I personally think they should go the whole hog and make silver members pay a premium for marketplace content, make their systems run 10% slower and have random appear in the middle of the screen during boss fights

Gold membership is now more disparate from silver, and therefore the benefits of the premium service have increased in a relative way. Argue the semantics of my statement all you want though.
And yeah, I really do think my £40 should net me more than a matching service. That’s just percieved value. True value would be in higher bandwidths, cheaper marketplace items and more exclusives.

If your silver then you can download while on your 360 playing games..
If your Gold, you have to stay off MP to allow the DL, so 2 right it should be quicker!..
i agree some in some part but i think this might be somekind of “plan” to get more silvers turning to gold.
but i dont demos like Superman and Cars will get any new gold members.
but i think its great that we gold members get something first not saying that u silver guys suck but if all silvers start bitchin WHY WE DONT GET..well why..u silver people dont pay for this.

This is a protection so people from the countries who shouldn’t be able to download the demo because of licences, can’t just make an asian or U.S. silver account and download it anyway.
A few months ago, you could use your US account to download demos if it was a US only demo.
Now you can’t, because your account has to be gold.
I think this is the main reason why sometimes gold members are getting demos and silver members are getting them later.

oh i guess i see your point, like with the rainbow 6 demo, when oxm had the exclusive for a week. i guess the delay would have prevented me, a gold member, from getting it early.

I think that’s probably a side-effect, rather than the intent.
My opinion is that MS are simply incentivising Gold Membership purchases.
Hey, we cough up £40 a year, I think we deserve a little something for that apart from being able to play multiplayer. How many got Texas Hold ‘Em for free? What if that was a gold only free XBLA game? I think the silver members would still be bitching about it.
Ultimately if you don’t like getting content 3 days later, pay for a gold account, otherwise stop whining and deal with it!
Demos exclusive for people who have XBL Gold is ridiculous, a demo is an advertisement, they are created to increase sales of a software product.
The demo of Amped 3 made me interested in the game, so that i might buy it if i have the spare money, the same goes for the Tomb Raider:Legend Demo and Lego Star Wars - my son would possibly make me buy that CARS-game for his birthday, if he played the demo on my XBOX - but he won’t, because he can’t play the demo ’til i want to play GoW online and buy a XBL Gold-membership.
So the one who is losing money because of this dumb move of Microsoft is… Microsoft.

XBL Silver members not being able to download the weekly wednesday XBLA-game on wednesday, but on tuesday a week later?
Microsoft, this is absolutely idiotic, its unlikely that you’ll make more money from this, because all those that want to play online already have Gold and those who only use Silver are most likely the ones who only connected their console to a router to buy stuff on the marketplace and decide which game to buy next after they played the demo.
I never thought of it like that rick and silver members get the downloads they were promised but us gold users get them first how it should be
microsoft isint losing money if they keep some demos on gold member..it just makes more money to them cause people want to buy gold to get that demo..i bet that halo3 beta will be gold only..

I’m a silver member because I just don’t have the time to sit and play games online all day. Why waste $60 when I won’t even be playing games online? I don’t really care what Microsoft does reguarding the gold members getting to download things before silver members, but I do argee with SILen(e on this one. Witholding demos is completely stupid. What is the point of it anyways? To make people ante up and spend $60 so they can download demos a week before they could when they were silver members? Stupid. The real losers of this are the game companys that give their demos to Microsoft for the world, and Microsoft is deciding to make a profit off of them. If I was the CEO of a company and I was losing money because people aren’t getting the demo in time, I would be pissed. I’m surprised there hasn’t been an uproar between companys releasing them demos, and Microsoft yet.
I will tell you one thing, if Microsoft decides to do this with their new movie/tv service look out. No broadcasting station will take a loss of a profit because Microsoft wants to earn a profit on upgrading their Xbox live subscriptions.
The sad thing about this is Sony is just sitting back and laughing and Microsoft right now.

Well, I’ve played the Demo, the 1st level anyway. The controls are… stupid.
A = gas, X = brake, RT = boost, LT = powerslide? WHY WHY WHY. Make the triggers gas and brake like every other racing game, nope? Ugg.
Besides this, it reminds me a lot of Dukes of Hazzard for PS2. Could be fun, if they give the option to reconfigure the buttons in the full game. Graphics look a bit bland, but the road texture is nice. I won’t buy this, but kids might like it.

If there was nothing like a special Gold or Silver account, only a Xbox Live account, the demo would have been released the exact same day, some people paying for gold doesn’t speed up the developement process of demos or games, especially not if they developers even aren’t a microsoft in-house team.
And i don’t think making silver members wait a week for a demo helps the bandwith of gold members, because maybe the silver members won’t take your bandwith this week, while you are downloading CARS…but guess what happens next week, when the silver members are finally allowed to download the CARS advertisement - and you want to download the Viva Pinata demo or whatever demo will be released next week.
Gold Members have absolutely no benefit from this ridiculous attempt to increase the gold-userbase, except for that little ‘I PAY for it, you don’t - so I am MUCH BETTER than YOU’ boost to their ego.
I am not sure this is a bandwith issue. We live in a connected world with a lot’s of hype and “I want it now attitude”?. What does it change to have the demo now or in one week, to me nothing. I really do not care that other people have the demo earlier than me. It is the same for movies, few of them have a worldwide release date.
My idea is that Microsoft wants gold members to feel like part of a special group of people “in the know” and having the latest demo immediately makes this feeling stronger.
Instead of MS adding more to the gold service to encourage more subscribers, they’re taking away from the silver. You gold members are no better off than you were before but all of a sudden you feel like you’re getting more for your money because silver members are getting less..
Exactly, the praise Microsoft earned for this move shows the lamest part of humanity, making people think they are better because they have more than others (or earlier).
Kind of like walking up to a disabled person and yelling ‘Ha, you cripple have only one leg, look at my wonderful,working legs….watch me running!!!’
No, it’s like being a cripple in a wheelchair and wheeling up to another cripple that’s not got a wheelchair, but is otherwise comfortable in every way, and going “hahaha…I already got my wheelchair, you don’t get your’s till next week!”.
To be honest, I think most gold members are simply enjoying the hissy fits from people that just can’t bear to wait a week for something that’s free. I’m not sure how to turn that into a bleeding-heart disabled person analogy though, so I guess I don’t have a point.
i just figured that the less amount of people trying to download the same demo or item would make a quicker download on that specific thing you would be tyring to download. i’f i’m wrong my bad.
Having had Xbox Live since it was in beta, I don’t mind perks for gold. I do think it’s a little much to make silver people wait a week. If they want to make them wait, I say only a day or two. Frees up a little bandwidth for a day or two for the gold downloads.
